  1. I just got my blood test results and my Vitamin D level is lower than it was 1 1/2 years ago! I started this process back in 2012 then backed out. I started again now and had to have the tests done again. My vit. d is lower and my pth is higher. I did some reading and it says this could be hyperthyroidism and also talks about osteoporosis! I've been taking 2000 iu of D for over a year now. Now I'm afraid this will put my surgery in jeopardy! Has anyone else had this problem?

  2. I know she's your mother but don't tell her. You are an adult. It's your body. If you tell her after, she'll get over it. Sure, she might be P.O.'d at you to begin with, but she will get over it. I'm not trying to be rude, just honest. And so should you. If you know it's going to drive her into next week, then why put her and yourself through that! Here's wishing you both the best of luck with your surgeries and your decisions!!

  3. Oh my goodness!!! Everyone that reads this will surely have a smile on their face! I know I do! You really should write a book. The way you word things is awesome and the things you say are oh, so, true! I haven't had my surgery yet but, when I do and lose weight and if someone says something to me, I will definitely remember reading this and probably start laughing to myself(hopefully not out loud). Just be proud of yourself and let the good times roll...

  4. I can assure you, you are not the only one!!! I am also frustrated but due to different reasons. If I had to wait an hour to see the doctor, I myself would consider changing doctors. By today's standards, that is unacceptable. If the insurance coordinator is with the bariatric clinic, then again, change clinics. As for your insurance. Be thankful that you have insurance that pays for WLS. My does not. If I only had to worry about paying $5000 as a deductible I would be on cloud nine!

The whole process is frustrating. I think most of it is from our expectations today. We want everything now. I am learning to be patient. You will too! We can't be impatient after surgery because it is just the vehicle for our success. The rest is up to us and it too may be a slower than expected result. Here is wishing you the best!

  5. I am not sleeved yet but, can answer #3 for you. If I am not mistaken, they all use the gadget that staples and then cuts. They have to staple first to prevent any stomach acids from leaking into your abdominal space. If that were to happen, it could make you extremely ill with a hospital stay in your future.

The rest of your questions are good though! Good luck!!!

  6. I don't have a date yet but have been getting all of my ducks in a row beforehand. I'm totally a self pay and have my numbers for surgeon, anesthesia, nurse anesthetist, and hospital.

I have been told that the hospital, based on a 1.1 day stay will be approx. $13,500. I also think a lot has to do with where you live. Medical costs vary all over the country.

    Hope this helped a little!!!

    Good luck!!!
