4. Wow what’s good people… It’s been a couple days since my last post and wow you guys almost left me in the wind I guess… well Let me respond to some post that caught me and get back in the thick of it. Plain Yes I do thing that with the passing of generations that the problem will diminish but not though silence it will take people havening adult style conversations and really listening to each other and yes over years and years after issues are addressed and addressed not ignored and I whole heartedly believe that we will eventually get past it all. Jack I agree it’s a catch 22 not all of the black people who make it out of impoverished conditions realize the impact of what they are portraying. They sell those images and that life style because its what appears in their windows and its what sells. The problem lies when kids from that life style look at them and thing they came from where I came from and had to deal with the same things I did and then they try to emulate the results. They need someone to show them unequivocally that there is another way to make it out there is a way for me to be something in this world. Gloucester To answer your questions I’m and fine and you…lol That is the million dollar question but let’s face it the failures of slavery are not what black America is most angry about to day… This country is in many cases blatantly biased against blacks. In the communities and in the judicial system, and in some state the laws themselves. What I get from some of your statements is that after slavery was abolished that issue was resolved and the fact of the matter is that today there are still policies and practices that discriminate against blacks. Yes slavery is in the past but injustice, prejudice, and angerhated isn’t in the past it is in the present. In my life time I have witnessed, felt, and watched racial based injustice happen all over this country. As far as can it happen today… it was only about Id say 3 or 4 years ago a cute little white girl came up to me and asked me … did that hurt? I asked her what she was talking about and she replied When your skin got all burned. That being said I think there is still enough ignorance in this country that that could happen again maybe. Hopefully the kid will be smarter than me at the time and not drive a staple through his finger. No my mother never really had to deal with is and my father said in more words than I will say. I should know my place. Meaning as a black adolescent I am not permitted to make the same mistakes my white adolescent friends were able to make and get away with just a slap on the wrist. The fear for me didn’t come until my first year in TN were the hast by police where I fit the description turned into being drug outta my car and cuffed gun drawn with a knee in my back cause I was a black kid in a Mercedes in a doo rag in a white neighborhood. That’s where my fear came from. That and other events that happened to me personally I was weary before that because of my father but after that I had a hearty fear and productive anger. But that’s the thing you can’t defend America cause it is America I love my country both the good and the bad and what pisses me off. I won’t stop arguing the case of the black community to my country just like I won’t stop arguing my patriotism to people who criticize my country. And I am not trying to move backwards but the fact is that this country has been recently on the verge of a new civil rights movement and the only reason it has yet to come tom ahead it lacks a leader. Research the Jena6 situation is you don’t already know about it. Ok chat feels good to be back …. Im sick of writing papers …. Only 6 more classes till my BS though so oh well. Looking forward to all your guys post l8ter
5. Yes i know i am a American. Yet i live in a different America than you. I will come back to that. I am not asking for monetary hand out... actually i would be happy if people would stop acting like slavery and other injustices were no bit deal, i am not and have never wanted money for slavery cause i am too far removed for it to matter to me. But my fathers mother and my father there are things that get passed down from generation to generation that are never forgotten and when people say or imply that all we need do is forget about it. That does My grand mother, my mother,my father and everyone in my family who could not or were not allowed to do something for the color of their skin a grave disservice. Yes i am part of a new more understanding generation that of witch i am proud, but the simple fact is that being black in American means something different. it means i have to CYA all the time. i live in a country where i live in constant fear of the police, where if i have to deal with the judicial system i am 40% more likely to get a harsher sentence than that of fairer skinned people, I live in a country where more that 10 times in my lifetime i have been stopped by the police because i fit the description,or i am in a nice car in the wrong neighborhood (predominately white),I live in a country when (especially in the south) i have been hand cuffed 6 time and yet i never have been arrested. this continued unfair treatment is what the black community is talking about. the fact the blacks in the US as close as 5 years ago are still being lynched for Dating white women. no i am not saying that YOU own the community anything but the country owes us Fairness. Now if you can understand that then thats fine and if you still can that fine too. The black community isn't trying to break America we have as little to gain from America breaking as anyone else we are in the schools we are here too. but we are not treated fairly every black person i know had been mistreated in some way. I was 7 the first time white person called me a N***** man called me a little n***** boy this was a airport official in the Memphis International Airport. I was the only Black student in my elementary school i was removed from that school after catching my hand in a stapler was paraded in front of the class by the teacher for 20mins so she could show that my blood was red. those are just my stories if you meet a black person that doesn't have a few stories like these of their own then I would like to meet that person and shake their hand cause thats the dream. My dream is that my children (when and if i ever have any ) will not have the same fear of the government the police that i do. I hope that they will not have to fight to have be afraid that their first mistake wont ruin their lives. Argue this point all you like but this is the America that i and the vast majority of the black people i know live in. You ask why we cant just let it go because we are reminded on a event by event basis that we are not viewed the same way in this country. Wheetsinthx I was just wondering because there was a poll that showed 19% of Obama supporters and 25 or some odd percent of Hillary supporters will vote for McCain in the general election if their candidate isn't the nominee. thats nonsense you know. BTW as i read through this i notice that i can could a little hostile... that is not my intention. This post has been going on for 4 pages now as i think that i may have given the wrong impression so i hope with this post i am more clear. And understand that there is no easy solution, it took 450 years to get here it will take a bit longer to right things.( i added the 40 years since Dr.Kings Death.)

This was the last straw

getting out of line at a amusement park thats a big one, i mean most of the country is overweight and i still can fit in those rides .. that when i broke and wanted the band too...
7. forgive me its Monday and my brain isn't working correctly, are you speaking about the people who say if hillary doesnt win they will vote for McCain?:Dancing_wub:
8. wow... you missed the whole point.... ok not all white people owned slaves. not all white people benefited from slavery. that being said i don't know what your racial makeup is but AMERICA owes blacks a lot not talking about individual people im talking about this country. and America owes native Americans even more, and they owe Asian Americans too America even owes Iraqis for this BS war. But (assuming your ancestors were immigrants to THIS* country) then their is no comparison to the struggles that were faced by black people in THIS* country. and top answer the original question No you have not hurt me in any way. I have not the slightest clue what i said that would make you think that i had believed you hurt me. *we are talking about America I understand that injustice happens world wide but in this discussion i am speaking about America And American faults.
9. No but we can work on tolerance and understanding and working towards making some kind of mends with the people whom this country has hurt and/or tormented.
10. lol jack you got me dying over here...lol no one is asking all white people to pay for slavery in this county but blacks cant walk away from the issue either. Its still a sore spot for us and will continue to be for a long time. all we can do is how that more discussions like this can be held and that somewhere we can find a solution.
11. Its wasn't as widespread as people wanted it to be but there are records of African tribes being paid in the slave trade when i find a reference to this i will post it
12. Plain i am sorry if You thought i was attacking or going on the defensive. I am not as tactful on forums as i am in person. I understand the plights of other oppressed people in this country and others and For those people who were mistreated and oppressed as a community they should rise and make any grievances known and if they are upset then say something . Cheryl Ann You are right. Education is the key but try to see where i am coming from where as you see the greatest and most free country in the world(witch it is ) a great many in the black community see not only that; but the country who oppressed us in the first place. And the reason for the anger is that the Holocaust has spawned a great many debate about genocide and oppression and peace where as the black community feels as though in many cases America has just tried to sweep slavery under the rug. Out of Sight Out of Mind. Gloucester I would never diminish the plight or any people especially the Native American people, I was simply pointing out that The Irish Population were Immigrants, Not slaves who were old as property. No you are not wrong African were selling captured Africans, But does that diminish the atrocity of the situation? Even todaymost African nationalities and cultures look down on the American Black community. We hear the stories the picture of our slave ancestors are still in the houses of my elders. When Native American and treated unjustly this day in age their community stands up and makes them self heard same with the Jewish and Asian communities. No 400 years of special treatment is not necessary, but this community will be happy when we don't have to look over our shoulders from our own country. Why is it ok For the US to SWEEP their sins under the rug, And why is it misunderstood and questioned when the offended party stands up and says know we are still here you will not be swept under the rug. The the Germans tries to DO that the International community would have a fit. Just because i don't include all races and plights in my arguments doesn't mean that they wouldn't benefit from the solution. Thanks for the responses, guys this is great.
13. Im not saying that anyones plight is worse .... but its bad enough for Black people to Choose to make our plight visible. I personally believe that the Native American Asians and other oppressed peoples should stand up and make their own grievances known and visible. Its not wrong for black people to stand up and talk about Black issues and fight for the issues that face our community. You mention that Other communities had had issues as well. I absolutely agree and if they want their issues in the lime light then stand up, protest, start dialog and rise up as a community together and make someone listen to you. As black people have done, and remember the Germans ran the Concentration camps not Americans. I am speaking on the faults of this country towards my people not to trivialize or Diminish the struggles of any other community.
14. For how long, And how did your Irish ancestors get here??? And Who says that this nations debt to the Native American people has been paid?... and sad to say but at least they were paid; it wasing the best situation but they were hear on their will. Yes that has always been prejudices and if we had chose to come here i would be right beside you crying hurt like everyone else but thats not how we got here. We were slaves no rights no names just property below dogs on the totem pole and you wanna make the same claim of prejudices for immigrants. I'm sorry my friend it does not compare, and anyway its not a competition; for you as immigrants you had it hard yes, but what i am talking about is 400 years inhumane ownership of a people. And after that every major gain my people took was made my a amendment to the damn constitution. lol Black people never said we all don't have history. i don't understand why people hate that we want to stand up and say we are here and we have been wronged.
15. I know that majority of people would love to move on but its hard because everywhere we turn we see only the bad we have to reference point to fall back to. The Holocaust was horrible but their ancestors and reletives are far removed from the place of their torment. The people in this country will never stop being angry about 911. For black people there to this day hasn't been a liberation so to speak, Blacks went from slavery to an institutionalized racismsegregation that took this country another hundred years to get to the point where we are today. We must remember for every Barack Obama, or Maya Angelou, Sydney Poitier there are hundreds that couldn't stay in the school or was intimidated by the masses, or didn't get that lucky break. This country robbed the Black here of their heritage, African Americans can only trace their linage back as far as when we got off the boat. How can you teach people why they should strive and work hard work hard when you can tell them where they come from who their ancestors were. The American Black Community is like a tall tree with no roots. Some leaders in our community want reparations. I say screw that; establish a organization that can reconnect a lost community with their roots that cant do that for everyone but they have enough information that through research and DNA they can trace peoples linage back over the Middle Passage, its not easy but it can be done. Thats how you start to address the Anger that lies within the African American community. :thumbup:i love this forum people her will talk and have a real discussion about anything:thumbup: But i thing we all can agree its time to start erasing the hate and anger.

Bestest Nsv Ever!!!!

whats a NSV
17. That will only work for some... Because the pain and frustration is still being felt in Vast parts of America. I happen to live in a Highly diverse community in the SF Bay. But how can you tell a person who around during the Tuskegee experiments. Or who marched in Birmingham when the dogs were released. How do you tell a person in that situation to Get over it its in the past. I am 25 and i would like to do nothing but to move on and start anew but when i see racial injustice that is still institutionalized and when i speak to my grandmother and talk to her about her life. i cant help but to be a little frustrated and it makes it a lot harder for me to just say I'm over it. Most people get stories in a paper, I get events from peoples lives, i know these people. There is fear and anger on both sides of this issue. You say your mother is racist; but did You ever ask her why?
18. Preach... i didn't even know there was a organization that tracked that data i think i would be interesting to check out my area.
19. PC laws yup thats exactly what the run of the mill politician throws at the race issue. The whole Political Correctness march has lead to what i like to call the PUSSIFICATION of America, WE are so wound up that me are afraid to hurt someones feelings or be looked at the wrong way.... but thats a topic for another thread... coming soon I want to talked to like the adults that i am don't worry about hurting my feelings, On the day Obama gave that speech he spoke to Americans As Adults and it scared people.
20. thanks in advance for your Honesty in the Poll
21. Unfortunately it kind of does matter i mean we can all stick our heads in the sand when it comes to the racial issue of this country but lets think about it race is a issue in this country. And there is a reason that half the country is looking high and low for a way to discredit Obama and there is a reason that the News affiliates will not stop talking about it. Why when Rev Wright says gd America and is more or less drawn and quartered by the press but when John Hagee gets up and says things that are every bit as inflammatory no one says any thing.(The Anniston Star ? James L. Evans: Extreme religious endorsements) And though the US government may not have introduces AIDS to black ... which is absurd, the sentiments did not come out of no where (http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0762136.html)(Tuskegee Study of Untreated Syphilis in the Negro Male - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)(NPR : Remembering the Tuskegee Experiment)(The Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment) I am not trying to get anyone angry or anything but i have been posting here a lot and just wanted to get an idea of peoples stances. The racial problems in this country will not go away by just saying " its in the past Get over it" So that being said i believe it is a issue and i just wanted to start a dialog. At least thats what i hope to start. ADDITION: I added some articles to show precedence to the examples that i used.
22. Ok so i was just going over my own personal preferences and i stumbled upon a moral quagmire. As a big person is it ok to not want to date other big people. Cause looking back on my social life and relationships i can see a definite pattern emerging. So what do you think... i really should have added a poll to this:tt1:

This was the last straw

Those are great but not necessarily what I was talking about. From the reading I did a Ah ha moment is when you come to the inevitable conclusion that your fat. My body and I had that conversation long ago, and addressed it. (Sort of) A last straw is a defining embarrassing moment I will use myself for example. My last straw was a late summer day in 06 A group of friends and I went to Great America and I had not noticed how much bigger I had gotten. So I went to my safe rides (rides that I know I could fit in) and much to my chagrin I could no longer fit in any ride in the park minus a few that I wasn’t going on in my new K Swiss. That for me wasn’t enough to make my ego dip, but when combined with the chair collapsed under my weight at the after party that seemed to stop the world from spinning. That was the last straw and something had to be done about my weight. That’s what I mean when I say your last straw.

Dating in the Pre\Post WLS mindset

Nail on the proverbial head... Ill be damned if i am going to put all this time effort and energy in to bettering myself to get romantically involved with someone who is not willing, or doesn't want to put in that same effort. I; even now am a active person. but i wanna get back to the better things in life, i was a jock in HS and wouldn't mind going back to that; i miss talking a horse out when i go to Tahoe. I get scared to go out on a wave runner alone cause i may not be able to pull my frame out of the Water and back on the machine if i fall and i aways fall cause i like to ride the wakes of bigger boats. I want my fucking life back and i want little or no reminders of the me that exist now.(fine as i may be)
