How amazing! First, I loved the part about maximizing working out and practicing using the "the tools" in the early stages. Also, this just reinforces that this procedure is NOT a magic pill! Would I love it to be? Heck yes! But the science (not only in this article) consistently shows that those that are successful in long term (5+ years) weight loss maintenance are those that regularly exercise and have regular group work (support groups, weekly meetings, etc).
The next step is educating SURGEONS to not perform this procedure just because insurance will pay for it. Too many people are getting it without fully knowing the type of lifestyle change it involves.
    Thanks for sharing the article!

    1. I had to take $100 out of the budget last week and go to ROSS and buy new dresses, nothing fits anymore.
    2. The clerk at my local grocery store stopped and asked me how much weight I've lost.
    3. I feel amazing!!!
LOVE NSV shout outs. Thank you!

I sad that wrong take the amount of weight u want to lose and divide by weight u have lost! That will give u the percentage of total body weight gne forever!! also just to answer a few of the guestions I see I am 3 months out I have had minimal Hair loss, I had a few weeks that I was super tired and had no energy! I have had some GERD issues which I had prior, I suggest taking omeprazole! Congrats to everyone who has made the decision to change their life!!!!! You will not regret it!!

I started at 195, I'm 5' 5", tried everything to lose with no success. I love love love to excercise and all that did was maintain my weight for years. My decision to do the gastric sleeve was a last measure. I thought about it for years and thought it was a cop out until I saw a video testimonial from another sleever and she convinced me that this wasn't an easy route, but a viable option for better health. I have to loose 60-70lbs to achieve a healthy weight for my frame. I was sleeved in Colombia on 8/21/13 by a wonderful team of surgeons with over 3000 sleeves under their belt (Dr. Gongora and Dr. Velez). The cost including airfare for my mother and I was only $7000. They accepted plastic for all but $2000 of the fees. That was perfect for me. To date I've lost 33lbs. I'm excercising like crazy now, kettle bells, yoga and running. I feel great, look great and I'm RARELY hungry. HEAD hunger is the worst symptom, and like last night when I FINALLY gave into my month's long craving for a slice of pizza....I regretted it and will not likely eat pizza again. This is the BEST decision of my life. I highly recommend it for anyone stuck in the fight. Good luck.

Hello, I'm a low BMI-er too - BMI is 33. My surgery is scheduled for November 1st in Mexico. I understand where the higher BMI people are coming from, but you can't convince me that when they lose weight and get to the BMI 30-35 range, that they'd want the sleeve to be gone so they can just "try it on their own". You also can't convince me that it's no worse to lose and regain the same 50 lbs over and over and over again over the course of 20 years is any more unhealthy than being 100lbs overweight. The hardest part, IMO of being someone who based on appearance doesn't "need" surgery is that you start to feel defeated. Yeah, so we "only" have half the weight to lose as other people who do qualify for surgery. Does that make being overweight any less hard? Absolutely not. At the end of the day (as others have said) - this is a decision made based on what I want for myself. And I'm tired of being fat, just like everyone else.
Anyway, I'll get off my soapbox now. Good luck to you!!!

Im not sure why people say you dont need it for 50 or 60 pounds... I have done everything BUT surgery to lose weight... weight watchers, Jenny Craig, nutri system, personal trainer, visalus shakes. I am only 5'5 and have no co-morbites, but every woman in my family is obese to morbidly obese, and for me this is more of a preventative measure. I have no problem eating healthy, but my genetics really suck, and I'm not going to risk going down the road of all the other women in my family. Its not pretty!

paisita411 got a reaction from ReadyNewM3 in Hola, quien soy yo?
