    Taste buds

I hate to be negative, but I am almost 4 weeks out of surgery and I am having a very difficult time adjusting because everything smells and tastes so differently! It is difficult to have energy and nutrients if you are having a hard time getting these things into your body. My nose feels ultra-sensitive to smell and things that I enjoyed the taste of before make me nautious! I am sticking to mostly water and ice tea, liquids that have artificial sweetners are soo sweet they make me pucker! I am having a hard time with protein mixes as well. Pre mixed whey products literally made me sick even if I mixed with sf powerade or something. Mixes that I used pre-surgery I can no longer get down without gagging. I have been able to sip either chocolate muscle milk or GNC's version and then follow immediately with a sip of water to dilute a little. I even had to switch vitamins because I couldn't get the flavored chewables down. I am finding that most cooked vegetables are tolerable as is eggs and cottage cheese and some varities of yogurt. I hope that things start to return a little more to normal the more foods that I can continue to introduce back into my diet. And this is kind of gross but I am finding that if I try and eat something or get in a protein drink in the morning before I brush my teeth it helps, maybe its because your mouth isn't all clean yet and more susceptible to smells or tastes, gross I know but if it works at this point I am willing to try anything! Good luck. I can say that I was more sensitive just a week ago compared to now, so hang in there it gets a little easier!
  2. My surgeon says gummys and swallowables are ok 2 weeks post-surgery. I have been chewing the centrum flavor bursts 4 chewables 2 times per day and they are soooo sweet I can't stand it! I tried GNC chewable mutli-vitamins for women again so disgusting tasting I can't get them down.... I would be interested to know what you end up with, not having good luck with products myslef!
  3. HHAHAHA Seeing my belt buckle without a mirror-that is GREAT!

    August Sleevers

Sleeved on August 6th. I am able to eat pureed foods for almost one week now. But I am never hungry. I don't want to eat at all and when I do I am so gassy and umcomfortable after that I just don't want the hassle. I am walking around the block immediately after eating, which helps to move the gas up. I have slowed down and taken small bites with lots of chewing but probably need to slow down even more. I am not drinking before eating and trying to stay away for at least 30 minutes after (old habits die hard!)... I am not regretting my decision but having a hard time coping... maybe a little whiney venting will help change my attitude! I don't want to eat. I am having a hard time getting in any protein let alone enough protein. I don't want my hair to fall out & I want to have some energy back. I have honestly tried almost every protein product on the market and I am finding that everything tastes so off to me that it makes me gag. Even my nose feels super-sensitive to smells and it is turning me off. I was never a sweet eater before but all of the sugar-free foods and drinks are so sickly sweet to me that I can't do it. I am deathly afraid of throwing up although I am feeling slightly nautious almost every time I eat anything. Anyone else having a hard time adjusting? Any tips? Especially tips for getting in protein.
  5. A little freaked out that I was just able to consume an entire cup of sugar free jello pudding in 7 minutes this close to my surgery date! I felt full when I finished but not even remotely uncomfortable, is it due to the consistency that I was able to consume that much? Since starting on yogurt, pudding, soups on Sunday (6 days post-op) I have had an actual feeling of hunger. I am just over-worrying about this whole process and maybe it won't work for me! I see my surgeon on Friday for staple removals and will ask then, but in the meantime can anyone else share a similar story from their experience?
