  1. That's great! I'm so glad that the appointment went well and he is supportive of you moving forward with surgery. Good luck on your journey! It's going to be a lift changing one for sure! :-)
  2. I never realized I had this issue until about 7 months post op when I sought out therapy because my old "urges" for coping with life through food started to pop back up. For me, my disordered eating kind of went the other direction after surgery & I now battle every day not with binge eating like in the past but with anorexia. I'm winning the battle though :-) I've been in therapy since 7 months post op. I'm now 26 months post op. I go every single week. I've also made a lot of progress reading & journaling through Geneen Roths books. I highly recommend them. I think it shows great promise that you are already thinking about these things, good luck to you!
  3. I don't have a recipe, but I order protein hot chocolate from bariatric choice.com all the time. It's tasty & high in protein :-)
  4. If you're not in pain you're probably fine. I didn't have that happen after the sleeve, but things like that would happen now & then after my tummy tuck. As I continued to heal everything got back to normal
  5. I have daily nutrition goals. I try to stick to them as religiously as I can. That is what helped me lose 145 pounds & keep them off! I aim for 70g protein, 30 or fewer g carbs, 30 or fewer g sugar & at least 100 oz of water.
  6. The first few weeks are honestly just about surviving & getting enough fluids in. I think most people have a touch of buyers remorse in that first week. I remember how difficult it was emotionally to be going through sugar, carb & caffeine withdrawal all at once, plus losing my tried & true coping mechanism of eating my feelings away. It is s rough time! I promise though, it gets way better. Every day you will heal a little more. The scale will start really loving & you will see the payout of your hard work
  7. I plan on approaching food the way I do every day on Thanksgiving. Protein first, then veggies. Pass on the bread, stuffing, pies, etc.
  8. That seems very strange to me. I'm over 2 years post op & there's no way I could eat that much without feeling terribly ill. If that is really the case I would definitely go to another surgeon to get a second opinion because that just doesn't seem right at all
  9. I think just about everyone has a moment of regret or buyer's remorse in the first few days/weeks after surgery. I remember calling my friend who was sleeved a year before me from the hospital saying "I can't believe you talked me into this! Why didn't you tell me it would be like this." She assured me it would get way better very quickly, and she was right. The first days/weeks you are going through sugar withdraw, carb withdraw, caffeine withdraw, plus you just had a relatively major surgery which demands that you completely change the way you've eaten probably all of your life. There's a lot of both physical and emotional change all at once. I promise it will get better and you will look back on it and say that you would do it all over again! ((hugs)) Hi, Caressa! Thanks for the link to your blog...I started reading it and enjoying your insights and experiences...I was curious...did you have any cosmetic surgery for loose skin or do you have any tips on how you managed? Your pictures look amazing!!! Yes I had a tummy tuck/panni at 18 months post op. There is lots of info on the procedure, my recovery & before & after pics on my blog. Specifically May & June of 2015
  10. I'm very pleased with the results other than this & it seems pretty minor. Thanks for the info everyone
  11. That sounds painful! But good to know they didn't charge you
  12. So I'm about 7 months post op on a tummy tuck & panni. My scar healed up really nicely, but today I noticed what's surgeon calls a "dog ear" on one side of the incision. Sorry not sure what the actual medical term is. I definitely am getting it fixed My questions... 1. If you experienced this, what exactly did your surgeon have to do to fix it? 2. Did your insurance cover something like that (my insurance deemed my TT medically necessary & covered all of it.) IF NO, about how much was the correction?
  13. I've had the same exact thing happen. My best friend since kindergarten & I both had sleeve surgery. My weight loss has been significant & I've maintained it for over 1.5 years. Unfortunately she was not ready to change her behavior and/or deal with the underlying cause of her overeating, so she has gained all of weight back plus some. She's been pulling away from me more & more and it finally occurred to me that it is likely because of my "success" with the weight loss. I don't know if she's jealous or if it makes her feel badly or what but it totally sucks. I just kind of came to the resolution that she will always be my friend, but I really have to focus on surrounding myself with people who support me on this journey. I'm sorry you are going through the same thing, I know it sucks.
  14. Im in the Poconos. Having surgery tomorrow morning!!! I'm close to you. Outside of Scranton in NEPA. Where are you having your surgery? I had mine at Wilkes-Barre General
  15. I used ScarAway silicone scar sheets....the long ones...I think they are about 7 inches.
  16. It was not an easy recovery, but it was SO worth it. My surgeon did an awesome job. In my blog (themeiamnow.blogspot.com) just a couple posts down I have before & after pics. The results were way better than I could've hoped for! And insurance paid, so even better! Lol. Good luck!
  17. Before my tummy tuck I was seldom without spanx to hold on my excess tummy skin.
  18. For me the biggest thing was getting it covered by insurance. Once that was in order it was full speed ahead!
  19. I also posted this question on the plastic surgery board, but thought I may get more feedback here :-) Has anyone used silicone scar sheets for their scars from either the sleeve or plastics? I had a tummy tuck & panni in April, so it's been almost 7 months, I've been wearing ScarAway silicone scar sheets religiously. When I was putting on new sheets today I noticed that the box said "for best results use 8-12 weeks." Ummm I've been using them for more like 28 weeks. Lol. If you've used them, how long was it for? After a certain amount of time does it quit making a difference? They're not exactly cheap & they're kind of a pain in the butt, so if they're not useful anymore, I'm cool with that, :-) Any experience with this? Thanks in advance!
  20. I had a tummy tuck & panni in April of 2015. It's been 7 months. I've been using ScarAway silicone scar sheets religiously since then. I was putting new sheets in today & noticed the box said for best results use 8-12 weeks. I've been using them for more like 28 weeks...lol. How long did you use them? At a certain point do they quit making a difference? Thanks!
  21. I think it's pretty normal to get "cold feet" as the date approaches. I just tried to stay focused on the reasons I chose to have the surgery in the first place when that happened. The first weeks are hard. I'm not gonna lie. For me, the actual surgery and physical part was't too terrible. My pain level was totally manageable without pain meds. The harder part for me was the emotional adjustment. It is so worth it in the end, though, and I would do it over again 100 times if I had to in order to get to the place I am now Good luck!!
  22. That's awesome! Congrats and good luck on your journey~
  23. Walking can help move digestion along for me when something feels "stuck" like that. For me the worst thing is just sitting or laying around and waiting for the feeling to pass.
  24. Congrats on taking the first step. For me, it took about 8 months for me to meet all of the requirements for my surgery. It just depends what your insurance requires (most require a 6-month "monitored weight loss" program with your surgeon's office as a minimum) and also how far out your surgeon is scheduling. Once I met all my insurance requirements I had the surgery scheduled within the next month. Good luck! And yes, I think insurance covering 80% is great seeing as a lot of policies won't cover it at all.
  25. If you are looking for something with a lot of support like an ab binder, I bought mine for after my tummy tuck off of amazon. I think they were around $20 and were great.
