    Dr. Quinones?

I sent you some contact information for someone who can answer your questions and get you into that facebook group.

    Dr. Quinones?

I paid $4500 in January. There is a Facebook group called "our journey to a healthier life" which is not exclusive to Dr. Quinones but the vast majority of users and the moderator are Dr. Quinones patients.

    Dr. Quinones?

I had a fabulous experience with Dr. Quinones. I would highly recommend him and his entire staff. If you have any specific questions feel free to ask.

    Dr Quinones?

I was sleeved 1/28/2014. I had a fabulous experience. Santa fe hospital is very small, only 3 patient rooms so at the most all Dr. Q ever does is 3 surgeries a day. He is very personable,he comes in and explains the whole surgery, takes time to answer any questions and then comes in to talk and check on you every day. The staff are great. The nurses don't speak English well but there is a translated there 24/7 to help with whatever you need. I am deathly allergic to many antibiotics so I was very worried about being given the wrong ones - but no fear they wrote instructions on my wrist band and IV bags which were checked each time - I felt.perfectly safe. I have had no pain no complications at all and have lost about 60lbs in 6 weeks. I would recommend him to anyone.

    Dr. Sergio Quinones In February

Just wanted to update that I had surgery with Dr. Q in January. The experience was absolutely fabulous. I have nothing negative to say.
  6. Dr quinones was my second choice. Went back and forth between him and dr ortiz at the OCC. He was, honestly, better than any US doctor I have been to. Santa Fe is small - only 3 patients at a time. Never more than 3 surgeries a day. There is a translator there 24/7. Dr. Quinones actually comes in and talks to you every day. And they still call me (surgery in January) about once a week to check up on me. I cannot tell you how pleased I was with the care I received.
  7. Please investigate and consider Dr. Quinones. He was absolutely fantastic, he is someone I would trust my child with.
  8. I am the health insurance manager at my company and I went over and over this with my insurance broker. The truth is, if your insurance does not cover the procedure it will most likely not cover complications. But here is the thing, it doesn't matter if you self pay for the procedure in the US, Canada or Timbuktu. Going to mexico has nothing to do with getting complications paid for or not. This fact actually helped me to decide Mexico was best for me. I researched and had total confidence in my doctor (Dr. Quinones) but with any surgery I also knew there was a chance of complications. I elected to stay in mexico a couple of extra days, thinking if anyajor complications came up Dr. Quinones could address them (at a quarter of the cost of a self pay Surgeon here in the US). I am a week out now, just got home yesterday. I feel great and have had no issues at all - not even any pain. Of course, I don't know what the future holds and I could have some kind of complication come up. If it does I will have to deal with it and I know my insurance won't cover it but again that has nothing to do with Mexico and I would have to deal with that possibility no matter where I had surgery.
  9. Awesome! Come back and let us know how you do. I am the 28th, so I am looking forward to everyone's reports as I prepare myself for my own surgery.

    Dr. Sergio Quinones In February

    Discouraged

I am the benefits manager at my company, I tried to get us a wls rider for our insurance and we couldn't even find a company that would offer us one. Seems like a lot of insurance companies are only offering wls coverage for really large groups ( my company is only about 250). I too will be going to mexico in January.
  16. Well for example, I will be on "mushies" when I am on a cruise next February, So I am working with the special needs department to have small portions of very soft dishes prepared so that I can somewhat blend in with the rest of the table and be a part of the dinner festivities. Now, if I were farther along at that time and I could eat more foods, then you are right, it wouldn't be necessary to have a special menu.
  17. Ok. I am the cruise queen - I have 4 scheduled between now and January (which is part of the reason I can't have my surgery until January) Anyway, call the cruise line special needs department. They will help set up a menu for you. They will make dishes low carb, sugar free Desserts, gluten free, lactose free - whatever you need they will help you.

    Plane tickets purchased!

I am self pay too, but my sister and I are starting our journey together - we will be sleeved by the same doctor on the same day, so January ended up being the soonest our schedules could match up. But that is OK, I will wait a few months if it means we are together.

    Plane tickets purchased!

I am in the same boat, deposit made, plane ticket purchased...now I wait because I don't go until January! Good luck to you!
  20. Hi. I am also 5'5"and 320lbs and size 26/28. I am not having my surgery until January but I can tell you once I do there is no stopping me! I am going to be in a normal BMI range I am not going to be overweight anymore and I will make it down to single digits - I cannot say how much I will weigh though because I have never been that thin before. Once for a brief moment when I was on Atkins I got down to 170 and was a 12 - that was with doing pilates and swimming 6 days a week.

    I'm getting sleeved!

We will be January sisters. I am scheduled Jan. 28th with Dr. Quinones.
  22. Hi, I am 43 and in Bowling Green - looks like we have a group of Kentuckians here I haven't been sleeved yet either - but I have my surgery scheduled in January 2014 - I am going to Mexico for mine since I will be self pay.

    Butterflies!

I am the benefits manager for my company - so let me let you in on a secret. Call the person in charge of benefits at your company (or your husbands) and tell them you are struggling with Aetna and you cannot get anyone to help you. Ask them if they would be willing to help you out. I can often "push" the insurance company to speed up their processes when they know the decision to continue using them rests with me. Of course you can only do this if you don't mind that person knowing your business, but I bet they can help you out.

Can't I just hit the stupid people?

I just wanted to say I can relate! I was once shopping for a souvenir T-shirt in Singapore. At the time I was a size 22 top and I was shopping for my very petite 12 year old sister - so of course I knew the shirts I was looking at wouldn't fit me! The sales person came running over to me, grabbed it out of my hands and yelled at me...I mean yelled "You can't try this on, you are too fat it will be ruined!" I was so stunned and embarrassed I just ran out of the store. To this day I think about that (it was 8 years ago!) and wish I could go back in time and tell that shop clerk off!! So thank you for doing it!
  25. Hi, I have been lurking around here - but I created an account just so I could respond to you. I have been an HR Manager for a long time - trust me when I say if they want you, they will make compromises for you. We do it all the time! Don't say anything to them just yet. Wait until they make you an offer. If they do, tell the HR person that your want to come in and speak to them before signing the offer letter. At that point let them know that you have a surgery scheduled and that you will need X time off. We let people off for pre planned vacations, weddings, school - a pre scheduled surgery is a no brainer. I am sure the HR person will not even hesitate. As for insurance - the new company probably won't even kick in for 90 days or so. If that is the case then no problem, continue with your current and then pick up the new after the surgery. If the new company does offer insurance right away, find out when their open enrollment is - if it is not far off - again continue your current to pay for the surgery and then pick up the new at open enrollment. Don't stress about this - this kind of thing happens all the time. The HR person will work with you.
