  1. @jenni77 - I feel what your saying... sometimes the liquids don't feel like they are doing it. I have eaten some soups that have a slightly thicker broth and that has helped. Trader Joe's has some cream type soups that are low fat and very tasty and not very thick. I will usually rotate soup, water, protein shake and even a tiny bit of fat free chocolate milk it seems to help. I start my pureed' diet tomorrow we'll see how it goes Good luck to you
  2. @Rulla did your doctor tell you it was ok to eat pureed food already? I was told the first two weeks was any liquids (not chunky soup) and protein shakes were ok. Tomorrow I will be 2 weeks out (sept 10) and tomorrow is my first day of pureed. The doctor told me if i had a hard time with pureed' food then to stick with liquids a little longer, you may also try drinking a little slower you're having a hard time getting it down? @Taminski - my instructions after surgery were 2 weeks of any liquids, just no chunky soup broth. Also I was able to start protein shakes immediately. I bought some soups that were a little thicker at Trader Joe's and they actually made me feel like my meal was sufficient. If you are into tomato they have a great soup that is in a carton and it's tomato and roasted red pepper. Just sip it like you would your normal liquids. I have had no issues with any of the liquids or any of the soups or anything. I think everyones body works different so I just suggest changing something up. I have read some of these other people's posts on here and I thought it was disturbing to hear people already eating soft food 5 days out of surgery. Your stomach can burst... I wouldn't even go there... I was also told I could take my time with each phase and do each phase longer if I needed to, but they definintely said do not rush any of the phases because your stomach needs time to heal. I hope this helps.
  3. I was sleeved on the 10th.... And have been off pain meds for a week... No nausea at all... And my stomach is just about healed. Still on liquids for another day... Then I start puréed on Tuesday... Before I had the surgery I was all worked up and nervous but now that it's said and done I know it was not bad at all. Try and get some anti nausea meds from the doctor to take before and after surgery it helps. The worst part of the entire thing was the pre op diet for 2 days before... You have to drink plenty of clear liquids in order to feel full. Good luck to everyone on this journey you can do it!

Anyone in No Nevada....Reno or Sparks?

It's crazy because I started to inquire about having this procedure done back in April and the time went by so fast now that I look back. I am a huge chicken, I hate needles, shots, having blood drawn... even pricking my finger daily because of Type 2 diabtes... Everyday up until my surgery I felt nervous and anxious and it was always on my mind. I think the thing I dreaded most was getting an IV and having surgery because I had never done either beore. I did not sleep much the night before my surgery, got in bed about midnight and had to be at the hospital at 5:30 am which was 2 hours before my surgery was scheduled. Once they checked me in, a nurse took me back and put me in a gown. They checked all of my vitals and asked me some repetitive questions. Then it came time to get my IV, they numbed my hand first which thankfully I did not feel that little needle and then they put in my IV and I did not feel that either. (this was what I was fearing the most about surgery day). Once I was sitting there prepped for surgery they allowed my parents to come visit with me while I was waiting. Then the anesthesiologist came over and talked to me about the medication... and before I knew it I was out... I don't remember being in the operating room nor do I remember seeing the surgeon. I remember waking up in my hospital room and my parents were standing there... i was very groggy in/out of it... but I knew that it was over. I slept on and off that day, did not feel any pain because of the anesthesia. They had me up and walking the hospital floor within a couple hours of surgery. What was nice was while I was in surgery, they wrapped a big corsette type thing around me and it felt like it held my stomach in. So when I was up to walk, it felt very supportive. My advice for you when they get you up... take your time getting up and down becasue that is the hardest part. The more your walk, you will make the staff happy and it's really good for body especially in preventing blood clots. Basically they checked my vitals and made me walking everyone 1-2 hours, it was not bad at all. I also had an IV drip with pain meds so I could give myself medicine at any time. I did so well that I only ended up staying in the hospital one night.. and my nurses were great. Just take your time walking and sitting up and sitting back down... if you feel like you can walk at a regular pace then go for it! I had all this fear and anxiety over nothing... and the surgeon even told me a week before my surgery not to stress and that I will feel so much better once I have the surgery. Today I am 5 days Post-op and he is right. Sorry this is so long... but I feel like after all the stress and anxiety I went through.. hopefully this will help others not stress like I did... As for any other advise, don't rush the food phases. I am still in phase one, one liquids only but I was told that the longer you stay on the earlier phases the more weight you will lose in the beginning. So don't rush each phase, one phase at a time. I am excited to hear everyone elses stories about this. Good Luck to everyone on this... this is a major life changing experience!!!

Just had my surgery on Tuesday the 10th.... It was not as bad as I thought it would be... The healing hasn't been bad either. In my opinion the pre-op liquid diet is the hardest part and I was only on it for 2 days per my doctors instructions. You will do great with the surgery.... Good luck
  6. So my surgery went well yesterday.... Still in the hospital resting.. My tummy is pretty sore and extremely swollen. Walking around has been pretty easy, the worst part is trying to sit down or get back up.... Luckily the hospital beds make it easier to lift you up. I have not administered pain medicine very often and they turned my auto med thing off so if I need pain meds they will brig them to me. I did take a shower on my own.. It's just a little difficult getting dressed without any assistance. Good luck to everyone else doing their surgery... Remember don't over drink your liquids cause you will feel miserable.
  7. Heading to the hospital now... Check in time is in 15 minutes.... Wish me luck! Will write more tomorrow
  8. My surgery is Tuesday and today is my first day of liquids... I can't believe how hungry I am feeling... I didn't think it would be like this... It's annoying to be drinking liquids frequently. I am nervous about my surgery as well... Just want it over with.
  9. Wow somebody your pre-op diets are long... My surgery is Tuesday and my pre op diet starts tomorrow.... 2-3 weeks is long but you lose a lot of weight during that time.
  10. Sept 10th... Here I come lol nervous about the surgery. I don't care about the food.., its what got me into this mess to begin with... Good luck to everyone on their surgery and journey!

Yes I had to have 6 months of monitored diet and exercise. Fortunately my insurance went back 2 years and accepted my doctor records with my nutritionist.. I was diagnosed with being Type 2 diabetes 2 years ago so I had to start seeing an endocrinologist and nutritionist... Call your insurance and find out exactly what you need.... Usually you can even just do weight watchers for 6 months. Don't be discouraged.... The time will fly by quickly.

No man will understand what women go through with their bodies... I hope your husband understands that just because you choose the surgery that it doesn't mean it was an easy decision. Even with this surgery we have to eat better and work out daily. Good luck to everyone on their new path

Ima social drinker too and believe me... I will not give that up completely but keep in mind you drop a lot of weight in the beginning and then the rest is entirely up to you with diet and exercise. Alcohol is high in calories, empty calories so you may want to wait a few months out before you drink. Also keep in Mind that you will not be able to drink like you did before... You will be drunk on very little alcohol. It's all crazy bit it will be new beginnings for all of us and skinny at that!

I chose the bay because I have my family there to help me out after the surgery. I also have a friend that did her sleeve through he same doctor a year ago and she is down 100 lbs.... I have had a psych eval, I have met with my nutritionist on a couple occasions, upper gi, breath test and a group nutrition class.... It's been really informative. I only have to stop eating for 2 days before my surgery and I don't have to drink any substance to flush me out before surgery (happy about that). I have a lot of anxiety over everything Because I have never had surgery before but I am counting down the days til it's over. Good luck to everyone with their surgeries... Mine is the 10th.
