But my mom wanted me to add her 2 cents..lol
She says, you should always ignore comments made in ignorance. If people don't know you had the surgery they will naturally think your sick or on drugs. She says WLS causes major changes and you can look completely different from month to month. She says don't be offended by their lack of experience with WLS results.
She says when they ask if you're sick, you should ask if they're stupid...well, they're both equally disturbing questions....I "mskeekee01" disagree with this statement..
Mskeekee01 says always smile and always take the high road!!!

I was at a luncheon and I had a lady comment on how much I've lost and then ask if I was losing on purpose. I laughed a bit and told her that I was absolutely losing it on purpose. She then paused, looked at me again and asked if I MEANT to lose weight. (B*tch, please. I was 264 pounds at 5'3". YES. I MEANT to lose weight.)
About ten minutes later, she interrupted my conversation to ask me AGAIN if I was intentionally losing weight. I looked at her, told her that I did NOT have cancer, I did not have a thyroid disorder, I did not have HIV, Addison's, Diabetes, etc. I told her I was sick and tired of being fat and I was LOSING WEIGHT ON PURPOSE and that she could reword her question in any way she wanted, my answer was not going to change.
Shut her up for the rest of the afternoon.

Went roller skating last night, first time in a year and a half. I used to be on a local roller derby team, but with school and life found myself overwhelmed so I took a break. Anyway I can most definitely feel it today! According to calculators I would burn approximately 870 calories and hour doing that and boy is it fun!

My friend came to visit me early on in my 5 month stay at the hospital....She brought with her a bag of 3 shirts that she thought I would like to wear in the near future....2 things went through my muffled brain....first...that is not even nice...At my lowest I will never be that small....second...Wow she thinks I will get that small that I will be able to wear these tiny clothes someday....Remember I just got out of a coma so I was not thinking to straight...
My friend is small..She is a size 2...she brought me her clothes to wear in the future...I had been a tight size 6x up to this point....
Yesterday she asked me if I had ever tried on the clothes she brought to the hospital that day...I laughed and replied are you kidding it is going to take me a long time before I can wear those little shirts....She told me to go home and try them on....
This morning as a lark I took them out of the bag and had NO faith that they would even fit one arm let alone my size....Holy macaroni..
they fit...Even have a little room in them...
Could this person really be me.....Have I gotten to the size that I can wear some of my friends clothes....I am gob smacked!!!!!!!!!!

So i get within 2 pounds of a 100 pounds weight loss at three months and the rapid weight loss slows down, no prob. i have been expecting this for some time and felt it would be good to coast to my goal. besides i am at a lower weight than i could have dreamed. My body fat % was determined to be 13% which can't be real but has caused me significant blow back in people telling me to stop losing weight . So i increase my calories from 1400 to 1600 to coast gently to my goal.
Then i get on the scale two days later (on my 90th day post op) mostly to keep myself honest and not allow the weight to go up. and voila I lost a little bit, so i feel good, not great, reasured really that i did not ruin everything by easing up on my program. and like ten beats go by before it hits me, I LOST 100 pounds! how could i have missed that? Instead of being elated and celebrating, like i read in these support sites I feel conflicted. All the rules presurgery no longer apply. In the past i have worked so hard to lose a pound a week and now, it hardly feels like trying. I think i am convinced this is all a fantasy and will be taken away just as quickly as it was given to me.
I also cannot see what others see from fifty feet away. people are blown away at the rapid change in me. I have to stare in the mirror to kind of see improvement.
it goes to prove what my wife has always said, i am crazy and have a fat brain.

This thread is hilarious. I am not sleeved yet so its good to know that cheating may happen and not to beat myself up too much. Today was hard. I am on the pre-op diet and only eating 2-3 Protein Shakes and one salad/protein meal and all I have been thinking about is food! Stupid lady at work is planning the food for some work function they are catering and she was literally on the phone with some food place for 30 min talking about all the food-REALLY loud too. It was driving me crazy!!! I made it though, Whew!!

I'm so embarrassed by my before pics and I'm not even half way yet, but thought I'd be brave, and share where I'm at. I'm 5'6, HW 230, CW 195 so 35 lbs down.
Went to see my PCP. The whole office gets excited when one of us has an appt because we usually accompany each other, and they're DYING to see our weight loss.
The doc said my husband and I had already had more success than some of her sleeved patients EVER see. That was a sobering thought and should scare us all into being diligent.
She congratulated us on being so proactive about it and said that our focus on health and activity was good because the people who put it back on are invariably focused on a short-term goal like fitting into a dress or going to a reunion.
She ordered me to stop obsessing, stop being as type A as I was, and to cut myself some slack. So I will try And my thyroid meds were reduced for the second time since surgery. Yay!
Ok I've blabbed long enough to delay posting my picture but here it goes.

Today is my second day of pre op liquid diet. ( 10 day total). It was a very huge test today..Went to a funeral and reception after. There was a TON of food! I had a Protein Shake and sf applesauce. Man that was hard! Tonight I have been listening (and feeling) all kinds of rumbles going crazy in there. I have a ton of gas from unknown origins...Oh well, guess it is just par for the course. On to day 3!

I have yogurt, oatmeal, and mashed up chicken noodle Soup as my 3 meals, then I drink Water and maybe 1 Protein drink between meals.Start with very smooth purees like yogurt and then go thicker and thicker as you get more accustomed.
If you don't like broth, buy Campbell's chicken noodle soup and just strain out the noodles, tastes much better IMO. Also cream of chicken is pretty good.

Thank you all for the feedback. I'm doing and feeling much better. I'm finding when I'm hungry my stomach hurts. When I have to go number 2 I get a really really sharp pain in the middle of my lower stomach. Water is becoming easy and is not as satisfying as it was at first so I've started with Jello cups which I can only eat about half of before I'm full. Neighbors are already seeing a difference in my face.. I don't think I could be much more excited about this next couple months. Again thank you all for your feedback and good luck on your journey!!!!

I would say you have probably been overeating. I did the same thing. It takes time to figure out when you are full. If you sneeze, get a runny nose, or hiccup these are cues to stop eating. Don't eat one more bite......this occurs because the vagus nerve is irritated. It's not the end of the world but it is your first clue to stop. It took me a little time to figure this out and you just want that last bite because you can't believe your already done. So it is very easy to do. I would also feel like my food was clear up to my throat and if I burped it was going to come up! The thing is it takes a few minutes for this sensation to happen before you realize you are full. Eat slower, chew really well and make it small bites. After a few minutes reevaluate if it feels like you are approaching fullness. If this is the case then stop. In a couple of more minutes you will feel completely full without over doing it. The diarrhea you are talking about is that because you were eating something sweet? If so, that could be dumping but that usually occurs rather quickly after eating it. This hasn't happened to me so maybe someone else can advise you a little better on this one. I hope this helps and good luck!

atlchick reacted to gamergirl in So apparently I'm a hypocrite for getting weight loss surgery
Sorry to be so logical but how is it hypocritical to be against fat shaming? Any decent person would be against fat shaming. What would be hypocritical is if you were NOT against it. If you used to be fat and now make fun of other fat people, then THAT would be hypocritical. Your friend is not only hurtful, and jealous, she is also illogical.
Sorry I know that wasn't the point of your post, but maybe you can see how not only is what she's saying to you is mean, it also makes no sense. Which means she's manufactured some stupid reason to pick on you.
People who don't love all of who you are should not experience the pleasure of your company. Let her go, which I know is easy to say but will likely come with pain, and open yourself up to new experiences and people who think you rock.
So sorry she did that to you ((hugs))

Thanks for all of your replies. The sad thing is that she's done this to other people, but I've always thought that she would never do it to me because we were so close or something. IDK. I unfriended her and kicked her from the social group that I organize. Not that she attended any meetings anyway. I am totally done with her.
I need support in my life, not people questioning me because I did what I had to do in order to save my life.

the worst is from one of my customers, an old Korean lady.."oh, you lose weight, you not so fat like before.. before you was SOOOOOOOOOOO FAAAAAAAT" (complete with hand gestures to illustrate exactly how fat I was.
The best was from my Aunt who is extremely weight conscious. I figured she wouldn't even say anything since I'm still 244 pounds which is unthinkable in her book.. But she absolutely gushed about how great I look and she said that if I continued to lose weight that would be great, but even if I never lost another pound I look fantastic.. then I proceeded to get phone calls from my cousins who called me because my aunt had gone straight home and called them and gushed about how "thin" I was and how great I looked.

I get very few comments too, especially at work (where I spend most of the day)! My husband says the women are just jealous and envious and , it would be inappropriate for a male to comment as it could be misconstrued as something more than a compliment. I'm 4'11. My heaviest weight was 206, and I'm currently 140. I went from a pant size 16/18. I'm now a size 6/8. I've lost 66 pounds and for my height, every pound, whether I gain or lose is noticeable.
Hang in there!! Your doing great!! Ill be the first to tell you, YOU LOOK AMAZING!! :-)
