    Rant

I have told very few people, and wish I hadn't. At the time surgery was just a thought so no one except my family ( husband and kids) are the only ones that know I scheduled my surgery, oh I did tell my hair dresser, but she is the only one I can tell anything, she don't judge, she is my best therapist. It's nice to have this forum to be able to talk about our concerns, ask question, and even vent. There are times that I have thoughts or feelings I don't want to post, so I write them down in a personal journal and this has helped. At this time I am the only one that can support my self the best, and thats good enough for me.
  2. So glad to hear it well for you. My surgery is scheduled for Jan 7, 2014 with Dr Rodriguez, and always love to hear about other people's experience. I have heard only good things about him. I have only told my husband, children, and a cousin that lives in Juarez. The few friends I have told have had negative reactions, so I have decided not to tell anyone else. Good luck to you, and hope you have great success with your weight loss.

    Hunger + Angry = Hangry!

OMG!!! This is exactly what happens to me, I get all those symptoms. It has made it hard to stick to diets. I become a monster b***ch that needs food, My husband gets frustrated with me and hates that i'm always in a bad mood when I'm trying to diet. I have not had surgery yet, and he thinks that I'm always going to be in a bad mood because I won't be able to eat like I use to. This is one of many fears I have. I hear so many say it's different after surgery, and I sure am praying it is for me to.

    New Mexico - anyone? anyone?

Yes, Just scheduled my surgery 2 days ago. I'm going to Juarez. I'm very nervous, and to think, I wanted to have surgery this month, but couldn't get time off from work. I feel very alone. Like this is not going to work for me, that i'm not going to be able to change the way I eat. I have very little support. I have chosen not to tell very many people. I can't talk about my concerns with my husband, he does not understand. it's like to big elephant in the room he has chosen to ignore. A friend of mine had this surgery almost 2 years ago, and has done very well. I have asked her a lot of questions, but hate to keep bugging her, I'm going to the same Dr. she went to. she has made it sound so easy, but I continue to doubt myself. So I will continue to follow this forum, enjoy the holidays, and pray that the same new years resolution I make every year will actually become reality.

Do you tell your PCP ?

I was afraid to tell my PCP I was planing on having VSG surgery in Mexico, but I though it was important for him to know. I made an appointment with him afraid of what reaction he might have, and if maybe I would have to start looking for a new PCP. I was very nervous ( I don't know why), but when I told him he was very supportive. He asked me if I was using a local surgeon. I explained to him my insurance does not cover any kind of weight loss surgery and I was going to Mexico. I gave him the name of the DR, and informed him that I have researched the physician and procedure. He said he would follow up with me after surgery, and I will have a complete physical before surgery, which I just scheduled for Jan 7 2014. I also informed him that my surgeon will give me a report of my procedure and copy of all my test to take to him. Don't be afraid to talk to your PCP, he or she should be on your side if not maybe you should find another one,
  7. Isopure has a drink called cocotien, it has 20 or 30gms of protein, I can't remember. I bought it at GNC, and it's pretty good, low sugar, low carb. I know the bottle is a little smaller than regular Isopure drinks thats why it does not have the 40gms of protein. I just hope I like it post-op.
  8. Thank you for your post. I have been waiting to here about someone having surgery with Dr Rodriguez recently. I plan on having surgery with him in January in Juarez. I have not been able to find anything negative about him, I think everyone has concerns about complications, so we do our research and use this forum to help us make the decision. Unfortunately not everyone can have surgery here in the states, but tragedies like this can happen here in the US.
  9. I am hoping to have surgery in January 2014, with Dr Jose Rodriguez in Juarez MX. I have read many good reviews about him but have not seen anything recent. I chose Dr Rodriguez because he is very close to where I live. No sense in flying far away when Juarez is just a 3 hour drive from where I live. A good friend of mine had surgery with him almost 2 years ago, she lost 90lbs and looks great, she had no complications and a great experience at their facility she says care was top of the line. If there is anyone planning on having surgery with him in near future or have had surgery I would like to here from you.
  10. I have had 5 surgeries on my legs for varicose veins. it's called venous ablation, but I had venous insufficiency, mine was medically necessary, and insurance paid for it, but it won't pay for sclerotherapy thats considered cosmetic. i had that done and it was very painful and scared my skin. My legs look awful too, but I wear shorts, and some of the veins have come back, thats why I want to have surgery weight has a lot to do with it, I would ask your dr.
  11. I want to thank you for sharing your experience with Dr Rodriguez and Star Medica. I hope to have surgery in January 2014, and I have not heard very many reviews or comments about him. My friend had her surgery with him last year, and has had great success, she spoke very highly of him and the facility. I guess people are afraid to go to Juarez, but I only live 3 hours away, so it would be very convenient for me to go there, and I have family living there as well. I would really like to hear about for progress, and how you are doing. I am a RN, so I can't stop thinking about all the possible complications, and the what ifs. I know my friend is getting tired of all my questions, but she made it sound so easy, almost to good to be true. I look forward to hearing from you, and thank you in advance.
  12. Hi, i'v been an RN for 8 years, I worked in ICU, telemetry, and have been doing hospice for almost 2 years. I hope to have my surgery in Jan, in Juarez, mx. my insurance does not cover WLS. I live in a small town in New Mexico a 3 hr drive from El Paso tx, I chose Dr. Jose Rodriguez. A good friend of mine had her surgery with him, she is also a nurse, she said she got better care there than in states, she drove her self to El Paso and drove her self back home. I wish I could have surgery sooner but I am out of vacation time for this year I am afraid 1 week is not enough. I do on call nights and week ends every other week, so if i take a week off i actually have 3 weeks. I am so afraid I will be one the 1% or that the surgery will not work for me, or I will feel sick from not being able to have carbs or sugar. I have had several sugeries in past and never worried. I guess it's because it is permanent. I am really glad I found this forum, I think my friend is tired of my questions. I would like to know if there are others from new mexico or others that have used this DR,, I haven't read much about him and have not found anything bad, he has years of experience and teaches Drs in states how to do procedure. I even had my cousin in Juarez check out hospital and Dr. all good reviews.
  13. I am also an RN currently doing hospice. I worked in ICU at local hospital for almost seven years my over weight body just couldn't handle it any more. back pain, knee pain, foot pain you name it. why are there so many overweight nurses? Because we don't have time to take care of ourselves. work long hours, without having time to eat and if we can eat it's not always nutritious, and too tired to exercise. Don't get me wrong I love my job, it's very rewarding but enough is enough I have to get this weight off 20 years is a long time. This is my first post i've just been reading. I haven't scheduled my surgery yet but I am hoping for January. I am scared to death, but i haven't changed my mind I was hoping to do it with in next few months but i'm out of vacation time.
  14. Hi everyone this is all new to me. I have never participated in a forum or blog, but I have been reading everyones post for a few days now, and I have found them very informative. I am thinking about having VSG surgery, well I am 90% sure I am going to have it. I have been in contact with Teri from Belite weight, and I am self -pay. so my best and closes option is Dr Rodriguez in Mexico. A friend of mine I went to Nursing school with had it done last year with him. She drove herself to El Paso where they picked her up at the airport, and she drove herself home. Amazing. She told me she had the best experience ever she is over a year out and has lost over 90lbs. Of course I have been asking her questions left and right I think she is tired of hearing from me. I have told no one in my family except my husband and a few coworkers. I don't want negative responses. I have so much to say, but I don't want to bore everyone so I will tell you about some of my concerns in another post.. for now I would like to no know if anyone else has had surgery with Dr Rodriguez, I have not seen very may post about him. Thanks, I won't reveal my real name now you can just call me Benni.
