saffikeagan 8/31/13 got a reaction from Erica2013 in Keeping surgery a secret...?
I'm keeping the surgery a secret at work as much as possible. I'm in management, and it's not really anyone's business. I didn't even tell my boss. I just submitted for vacation and left it at that. This past week people asked me what I was going to be doing on my vacation, and I told them I'm going to San Diego and Tj to have a bit of fun. I'm not taking but two days of PTO due to the holiday weekend, so it's not like I'm having to explain a long vacation.
I did tell my HR manager just in case.

So, I have my first NSV!
I officially started my pre-op diet yesterday. I've really started my WL journey with the sleeve now. My surgery is on 8/31. I cleaned up the kitchen today, bought some groceries to see me through the pre-op and some of the post-op. I've also bathed the dogs so they can be clean at my friend's house while I'm away. I leave for the airport at 1:30pm on Friday. I'm excited. I also created my WL tracker. WOOT!

When are you going? I'm going alone, but I've traveled a lot. I'm not worried. However, I'm definitely NOT visiting the Texas boarder towns anytime soon. I've heard that Tj has cleaned up a lot since all the drs who rely on Medical Tourism went on strike. The city had to crack down and clean up. It's save now...as safe as any city is.

I think it's time to jump. I'm going to book Dr. Garcia on 8/31. I'll fly out after work on Friday, and be back home Tuesday. Hopefully, I'll feel up to going back to work on Wednesday (I just sit at my desk all day). Total cost with Airfare will be less than $5100. I've heard only positive things about most of the Drs. so I'm sure any decision would be a good one.

It seems the Drs. in Mexico are as qualified as the ones in the US. Some people have stated that the care is stellar (above what you get in the US). And it's less than half the cost. My insurance won't cover it here in the US. I can wait till January and see if my company will change carriers and whether that carrier will pay. However, most won't. I've jumped through all the hoops. I've tried pretty much every diet out there. This last time I reached 100 over my recommended weight. Spent tons of money at Medifast, lost 50 and gained almost 30 back. I'm sick of this!

Yup, just using that money now for medical preventative care vs in 20 years for insulin, BP meds, Cholesterol meds, etc.

I'm not nervous about the surgery it's self. I've been under the knife several times. It's all the other stuff that is the big unknown for me. Recovery, pre and post diet, post weight loss. The most nerve wracking part is the thought of doing all this and STILL not permanently loosing the weight.

I missed this thread! I am right on the same page with saffikeagan. I hate to cook and do dishes! Fastfood is SO much easier!!! I can go all day without eating--before the sleeve I wouldn't even think about food--but as soon as evening would hit, I would go for fast and easy. Especially after getting up at 4:30 AM to get my self dressed, my 2 year old, 4 year old, 8 and 10 year old. Then off to drop them off at school, get myself to school (teacher), practice after school (I sponsor the dance team), pick up kiddos from day care...by now it is 7:00/7:30 p.m... so... to cook or not to cook before bathing kids, ironing, homwork, and any in betweens that include taking care of myself (if I get a chance)? Uhhh...NOT TO COOK!
I think my weight had to do with tons of stress and lots of bad foods at bad times. Now that I am post sleeve I have never experienced the mourning of food or a sense of loss. I really believe that I was NOT addicted to food or an emotional eater (I hide in a nice dark room when I am upset), just a bad eater (like munching on chips--my trigger food--in front of the television on weekends).
This summer I really worked on preparing meals, eliminating the bad carbs (sodas, juices, finger foods--CHIPS ESPECIALLY) from my cabinets. School is starting up and I have arranged for help (a cleaning lady--YAY!) during the week so that I do not revert to my old ways of fast food, and so that I don't stress about mess when I am too tired to clean it all up or find an excuse not to cook. I'm not only making this life change for myself, but for my heathens as well.

I dipped into my retirement. I think it worth it. If I can't get this weight off permanently, there will be no point saving for retirement.
