Veterans ONLY please. One year + post op.

Update... I had my meds changed, already down to 136 in less than 2 weeks. I am on a strict vitamin regimen ordered by a new nutritionist. 80 grams protein a day, 1500mg calcium with vitamin D divided into 3 doses throughout the day, 2flinstone complete with iron (1 in am, 1 in pm), 500mcg sublingual b12 daily...I forget what else but hopefully I can get my levels up soon.

Thank you for responding. I am really hoping that I qualify for the b12 injections. I am horrible at remembering to take them. I also hope that I get to see a bariatric doctor soon. I don't believe I am depressed, I think this is side effects of having low vitamin levels in my body.

Hey everyone. I am 3 years post op VSG. My hw was 236 sw 226 lw 124 now I'm 142. I'm ok with my weight and eat healthy religiously but have some medications that are slowing me down. I came here today because I had my surgery done in Mexico in 2013 and never had my vitamins checked until a few weeks ago. My vit D is 5.9, my b12 is 291, and magnesium is 1.8. these are all pretty low. I am currently taking 50000 units vitamin D2 1x weekly and a multivitamin. My biggest thing is the b12. I have noticed over the last year I am having difficulty getting it in. I had to stop taking the sublingual due to dental issues. I'm unsure if or how much intrinsic factor my body has and my family doctor doesn't see a huge problem with my numbers. She has me on depression meds (part of the rebound weight cause) when maybe I just need more vitamins? I'm pretty unsure at this point. I have asked for a referral to a bariatric doctor and waiting for insurance to decide. Until then, anyone care to share anything on this?
  4. I was sleeved Sept 12, 2013. Highest weight: 226 Surgery weight:216 Current weight: 128
  5. I started just over a year ago @ 226. I think the biggest thing for me is having bones that stick out. I'm currently 141 lbs at 5ft 4in. I no longer have a goal weight. I'm content where I am and other than some extra skin (which I hate) I can't complain. My pants have went from a size 18 to a size 4.
  6. Thispost is mainly for accountability more than anything else. I started soft food this past thursday. Since then I have ate several things I should not have. The worst of them all and the smack to my head was when I actually ate a bite of cookie last night. I just spent what I consider to be a large sum of money, altered my body for life, and made a commitment to myself. Yet, here I sit typing. I started this morning determined to stick to my plan. If its not protein its not going in mouth. I think I need motivation.
  7. Good job everyone! My loss seems to be slower than most, but im thankful for every pound I lose regardless of how long it takes :-)

  9. I had my surgery around 9am this morning in Mx with the amazing Dr. Alvarez. This has been such a good experience so far. I flew into San Antonio, where I was promptly picked up by Dr. Alvarez's driver Rosie. She was very polite and informative about all the questions I had about Mexico given the fact that I have never been here before. When we got to the dr office we meet Dr.Alvarez. He was so wonderful and down to earth. I volunteered to go first so he met with me in his office and discussed my health. He told me of how he performed the procedure. I was then taken for bloodwork and chest xray. Then put on a bed and hooked to an iv...they gave me something to calm me then I woke up in my room and the surgery was already done. The nurses here dont speak english well but Jesus and Jessica are always around and speak fluent English and Spanish. Jessica is a total sweetheart, I really do like her sweet demeanor. I have had no pain, just random mild discomfort. That may change tomorrow with the introduction of water and clear liquids. I will write more tomorrow and update how I feel.
  10. No need to worry :-) Dr. Alvarez, Rosie, Susan, and all the people at the hotel and hospital will take very good care of you. I went alone and had a very good experience.
  11. Thanks everyone for the support! I appreciate it way more than you know. I have zero support at home most days.
  12. So far today I have had...16oz water, 4oz almond milk unsweetened, one scoop isopure no carb, 1/4 cup eggbeaters, one slice 2% provolone. I woke up at 5:30...
  13. Hi I was sleeved there Sept 12th. I had no issues at all. I even walked around outside the hospital. Dr. Alvarez is a talented surgeon. I felt completely safe on each journey of my trip. The hotels I stayed at were clean and very comfy. I went alone and would do it a thousand times over. Good luck to you in whatever decision you make.
  14. I also had my first scrambled egg today...I ate about 3/4 of it.
  15. Im still having a heck of a time figuring out what to eat.
