Are you going with Dr. Alvarez as well?- First Post-op Post
Hey Amber I hope they help you out with some pain meds. Im having some type of insomnia...idk. I got some meds at 1 just to help me relax and sleep but by 230 I was wide awake and walking out in the hall. I wish I could sleep because tomorrow will be stressful tryin to get my fluids in on my brand new tummy. It may cause some gas that im lucky I didnt have right after surgery. Lol Dr. Alvarez told me since I had already had a laproscopic gall bladder removal it would be similar for vsg pain wise and would be fairly easy for me since my other laproscopic surgery went good.- Going to Mexico alone...
Hi Everyone! I am currently in Mexico alone right now. I had my surgery this past morning with the amazing Dr. Alvarez. I feel perfectly fine to be here alone. The Dr, Susan, His Driver Rosie, and all the staff I have had contact with are absolutely fabulous. The hospital is older, but that I knew going in. It just looks like hospitals did when I was a young girl. The patient care in this place supersedes any medical care I have had in any hospital in the States. So while its not the prettiest I would chose here over any hospital near my own home. I will say the private rooms you are given here are completely updated and quite nice. Mine had a beautiful tiled walk in shower, leather furniture for guests, and a nice flatscreen tv. I do not feel scared to be alone here, but honestly cant wait to board the plane back to my wonderful fiance, 4 kids, and brand new Grandson Omar.- First Post-op Post
Im sorry to hear that Justin. I do consider myself very fortunate now. I hope tomorrow goes as good as today. I only asked for pain meds once today and that was just a couple hours ago. I am having a very hard time sleeping so I figured I would break out the laptop and do some writing. Thanks again- First Post-op Post
Thanks Matt! The other two ladies with me at this time are like that. So far I have been fortunate. Tomorrow im hoping to he able to deal with the ice chips.- First Post-op Post
I had my surgery around 9am this morning in Mx with the amazing Dr. Alvarez. This has been such a good experience so far. I flew into San Antonio, where I was promptly picked up by Dr. Alvarez's driver Rosie. She was very polite and informative about all the questions I had about Mexico given the fact that I have never been here before. When we got to the dr office we meet Dr.Alvarez. He was so wonderful and down to earth. I volunteered to go first so he met with me in his office and discussed my health. He told me of how he performed the procedure. I was then taken for bloodwork and chest xray. Then put on a bed and hooked to an iv...they gave me something to calm me then I woke up in my room and the surgery was already done. The nurses here dont speak english well but Jesus and Jessica are always around and speak fluent English and Spanish. Jessica is a total sweetheart, I really do like her sweet demeanor. I have had no pain, just random mild discomfort. That may change tomorrow with the introduction of water and clear liquids. I will write more tomorrow and update how I feel.- Whos in September? I had a major setback and was sure I wasn't going to be able to keep my Sept. 12th date, but just as I have read over and over...one call to Susan and the problem was fixed within hours. Dr. Alvarez has been blessed with such a wonderful coordinator. Seriously, I have never had a Dr office contact me on a Sunday just to offer encouragement. I knew from day one if I was going to have surgery it would be with Dr. Alvarez. I did start my Chantix and quit smoking Wednesday night. I am doing very well with it and haven't touched a cigarette since. This is no small feat and I'm extremely proud of myself. I was a smoker for 22 yrs, now I'm a quitter!! I start my 7 day pre-op diet on the 5th....good luck to all the Sept sleevers...we are going to do great!!- September 2013 sleevers..Requesting sleeve buddies :)

- Smoking
Ok I have an update. I went to the Dr last week and got Chantix. My Doctor told me to take it for 3 weeks before I attempted quitting. Unfortunately, I didn't have 3 weeks. My surgery is the 12th, and I have to be two weeks smoke free. Yesterday was my first totally smokefree day in over 22yrs. It was a lot easier than I expected. I was even able to sit outside and watch the bf smoke with no major issues. Feeling really good about this whole quitting thing now! - First Post-op Post
