LBD got a reaction from Gr8fulMiniMe in Sleevers feedback wanted! Will I lose my hair after the Sleeve?
I started losing... (more like shedding) hair at about 4 months. Had my VSG in October so I'm 7 months out- still shedding but it's not really noticeable. Hoping that it regulates soon. I try not to wash it every day but when I put product in my hair after washing it, I end up with quite a few strands on my hands- but it's not like it comes out in clumps. Biotin regrows hair but does not prevent it from falling out. My understanding it that if you get your fluids in, keep your Protein up & take your Vitamins, all those things will help. This past week I hit a major milestone- under 200 lbs. I've lost 88 pounds so far and I have to say that the hair thing- although it's scary- is well worth going through to get my health and life back!

Yes, this is true and WLS patients get the double whammy of losing hair due to the actual surgery/anesthesia and the major weight loss. Had the same issue after a prior surgery.

Just took my first flight after dropping 80 lbs. Last time I flew, I could not buckle my seat belt and was way too embarrassed to ask for an extension.... This time, I had about 6" of slack! Yay! Still a long way to go but that made me really happy!!!

Tortoise here as well. Saturday will be 5 months out from surgery. 15 pounds down on my preoperative diet then 56 since surgery. I am thrilled to be down 71 lbs total... Never ever lost that much in my life! I plateau a lot, but I always have & at this rate, I'll be at goal within 7 months... I'll take it!!! Feeling great, able to get around much easier, far fewer aches and pains. I have been back teaching art in middle school & actually have the energy to do my job well again. Grateful!

LBD got a reaction from ForkAndMindy in Any food addicts here?
Yes, completely addicted to food. Sugar, fat and carbs were my drug of choice. I know my habits were just as if I were a drug addict attempting to hide her actions from her family. I would eat fast food when I was out & dispose of the trash before I got back to the house & even would air out the car so it didn't smell like fast food, lol. I'd buy pop tarts, Cookies, etc & I'd hide them in my car or in the house because I knew I shouldn't be eating them but would finish them off in no time... I'd eat when everyone went to bed. If that isn't a food addiction/eating disorder I don't know what is. My VSG was my self imposed intervention, and having it done after my first attempt at gastric bypass was my way of getting control of my behavior and my life.
I'm on my way to being healthy- body, mind and spirit.

LBD got a reaction from gamergirl in What will you be leaving behind in 2013?
Noor1969, we have a couple of things in common! I'm also 44, had turned to food for comfort for various reasons over the years... Lots of bullying as a child & the weight came on consistently. The last forty or so came on as I dealt with the pain of caring for my mom as she fought pancreatic cancer and lost. I think that sometimes the things that involve major change in our lives can sometimes be the scariest.... and the decisions we make as a result of these difficult situations can also be the best things for us. Stress, pain, and emotional eating got me to 287 pounds and decided that enough was enough. I was scared to go under the knife after having had a surgery go really wrong before, but just over 10 weeks after getting sleeved, I am SO happy that I chose to go through with it! I've lost 50 pounds, and I'm feeling good. I can eat most of the things that I used to enjoy, just much less of them. I no longer have trouble with stairs and because I'm no longer a carb addict, I don't have issues with blood sugar like I used to. I still enjoy food, just much less of it... I'm making better decisions around food in general and holding myself accountable versus binging. I still need to lose 90 pounds or so but now I know it's REALLY possible this time and I won't spend the rest of my life in a vicious losing and gaining cycle... 2014 is the year! Best decision ever!!!
In 2014, I am hoping to leave behind...
Self consciousness and doubt, physical and emotional pain, inactivity and complacency. Definitely want to shed this weight that I've been carrying around for decades.
    In favor of...
Self confidence, and a more healthy body and spirit. I hope that with my improved health I will more actively engage in life again!!!
Best wishes for a happier and healthier 2014!!!!

Lol^^^ this but maybe simply start with this- look at her square in the eye & say, "I notice that you are very concerned with my diet plan- why?" I would think that might force her to see how her own behavior effects you. Sometimes people don't understand how annoying their own behaviors are to others... & sometimes well-intentioned pains in the ass need to be reminded to look in the mirror!

Thanks for starting this thread Laura... I realize now how out of control I was with food. I ate socially without any hesitation, always the first one finished & also binged in private. Bought the high calorie/carb foods then felt guilty, then would hide them only to eat them all after everyone was in bed. Sick, really.
Last night we had a birthday party for my son & niece. Everyone always asks for this artichoke dip that I make. There was a bunch of it left but the kids ate all the crackers so my husband suggested that we just throw away the rest. Well, I was not going to have that even though I knew no one, including me would eat it. It was like I was having separation anxiety. I kind of feel the same way when I throw away food, like my son's half eaten grilled cheese sandwich. Never even thought twice about eating what was left on their plates. I also notice now that I am aware of eating slowly, how quickly my husband & my two boys eat. I find myself astonished at how they haven't swallowed their food before they eat another forkful.. Never really noticed before. Hoping that my new slow pace has a positive influence. I am so grateful for this surgery - it's really forced me to be aware, to recognize my food addiction and it's effect on my family, and I'm grateful to finally be gaining control of my relationship with food.

It seems that the chex mix would be a better choice than the whoopie pie Cookies or the pb cup cookies that my boys always ask for- at least less sugar. I make cookies/candy every year for the family and everyone really enjoys what I make- they have much more restraint then I did around the butter crunch! I know personally, these things are my personal kryptonite... for me sweets lie on a slippery slope, but I still love to make them. I made giant chocolate chip cookies for a fundraiser the other day and I found myself smelling them but not eating them, lol. I have found that I am able to eat certain things that I thought I'd really miss, and I will allow myself to have these things in moderation on occasion. Sushi, with rice... Had a roll at our favorite restaurant the other day & had no problems with it. Also had pizza, very thin crust, small slice & felt happy & satisfied. As long as I can have these two things every once in a while, I'll be a happy girl & will have much more success long term.

Went to see my surgeon today for my one month post op appointment. Cleared to eat all (appropriate) foods now... So nice to be able to eat those dry roasted edamame/almonds etc.- missed my crunch! I've been reaching my Protein goal each day, maybe not drinking as much Water as I should though- probably 40-50 oz per day. Once I hit my puréed stage, weight loss has been really slow. They suggested that I up my calories from 650-750 to closer to 1000 calories per day. First time a doctor told me to eat more calories! Kind of surreal, lol. We'll see if that works.

Hey everyone- October 15th here. I'm on soft foods now & actually ate meat for the first time tonight. Pan seared a small chicken thigh for dinner... Also took that recipe for baked zucchini- dipped in egg white & panko & seasoned- yummy! I'm down 29 pounds since I started my pre-op diet... That's including the 18 day stall that may have just broken since I started to exercise the past couple of days. It was weird, as soon as I started my full liquids, the weight loss just stopped. Here's a link that really helped me put things in perspective...
