Wisconsin overturned the ban on same sex marriage yesterday! The court house stayed open until 9pm to issue marriage licenses and perform ceremonies. So, my partner and I (along with our daughter) went to the court house and were married. I couldn't be happier!

    Time for the next challenge...
    4th of July Challenge!

Here we go with the rules and instructions:
    1. Be sure and log in here on Friday, May 30, 2014 to post your start weight and your goal weight for the challenge.
    2. When setting your goal, keep in mind that this challenge is only 4 weeks long (5 weigh-ins).
    3. Weigh in every Friday and post your updates here.
    4. Watch the data at 4th of July Challenge (click to be taken to an online spreadsheet) to see our progress as individuals and as a team.

    GOOD LUCK!
Note for you non-USA folks...even though it is not your country's Independence Day, it is definitely your country's "Fourth of July" (I mean, it's the 4th of July everywhere, right?!?) So here's hoping you'll think of this as a holiday to share with us and join in on the fun here. Happy 4th of July, folks!

Diva, my time is actually tomorrow. I just got the call. I have to be there at 8:00 am. It seemed like such a long process, now it seems like it came so fast, lol. Well tomorrow is the big day. Prayers going up for all having surgery tomorrow.

Mocha2871 got a reaction from BeagleLover in Major Acid Reflux
Well I had surgery in Aug of 2013 and I suffer from acid reflux. I take a pill daily since the surgery. They have told me to watch for the things that I eat and when I eat but I have noticed that when I go to bed at night sometimes I wakeup with it and have given myself enough time to digest my dinner before I lay down. So, I just dont know what brings it on or how to stop it other than taking Omeprazole 40 MG a day.

I'm 19 months out and still feel not just fat but obese! I'm shocked everytime I can fit in a small area! I hope this goes away! All I've ever wanted was to feel normal and not obsess about my weight.

I still feel that way. Eventhough I've lost weight and gotten down to Misses sizes (18), I still head out to the plus size section but instead of a 3X I go to a 1X but I'm really a L or XL but I need loose fitting clothes, maybe I'll accept the fact that I've lost weight.

    Thanks for that article.
I was told by a friend that has had bypass, that I would always see myself as "fat"... I blew it off, thinking I would not think that way, but I was wrong. I am down 70+lbs and even though others can see it as a significant change, I am still stuck at" fat"... wondering if this feeling will ever go away.

    Great article.
People at work compliment me all the time about how good I look, ( I am down 95pds) but in mind I'm saying: "What are these people talking about, look at me, I'm still huge." My brain hasn't caught up to my body yet. I don't know if it ever will, they say we are our own worst critic.

Know that we are here for you from beginning til you reach your goal and beyond. I was really scared to all the things that ran through my mind but what I had that was stronger was my faith that my God would not bring me to this if I was not meant to come through it. You are here because he wants you to be here and wants you to be a better you. If you want to talk just holla I will answer!!!!!

I've also decided to take a scale break for 30 days and focus on eating right and getting my exercise in... The scale hasn't moved for me in 2 weeks... So frustrating, but God has a way of making you see the upside of things... I went shopping and bought a size 12 (haven't worn that in yeeeeaaaarrrrrsssss) and not only did it fit... But it's also a little loose!!!! Just be patient!! It will get better!!!

I had my surgery on Thursday, May 1st. Came home yesterday. No one can really prepare you for those first 24 hours. I don't remember much but what I will say is day 2 was better than day one and each day I am reminded that this was the best thing I could of done for myself. I've been on Water, sf popsicles, and broth. Haven't really felt hungry at all. Tomorrow my doctor is letting me start Protein Shakes. Woohoo! I want to thank you all for the encouragement I've received here and I look forward to continuing on this life changing journey.

I just joined a gym and plan on using resistance machines to work out and tone.
You mentioned you "do not have a large amount to lose" are you speaking of excess skin? I ask because for me losing 100lbs was drastic enough for me to be sleeved. It amounted to a large amount in my mind. I've lost 78lbs and counting. I couldn't imagine being sleeved for any other reason! Lol

Hi-- I get my sleeve tomorrow! I am definitely glad to find this thread. Excess skin was a big concern of mine. My surgeon said that because I do not have a large amount to lose and African Americans have more elasticity in their skin it should not be a problem. So, there is a difference in our outcome vs. another race. Supposedly the pigmentation of our skin is a big plus.
