  1. being 34 years old and feeling like my life is over when it should just be starting...

I just turned 35. Earlier this year I realized I had felt like my life was over for way too long. Yes, I've been out of high school for 18 years. Yes, I live a "grown up" life. But NO, my life is not over! That realization is what was the final factor in my decision for WLS. I'm glad I wasn't the only one who felt/feels that way. And the messy house thing...girlfriend, I am with you on that too ;)

  2. I will not miss:

    1. Not being able to cross my legs

    2. Being out of breath walking up stairs

    3. Not being able to bend over to tie my shoes

    4. Not getting on rides with my son because I'm afraid I won't fit or the ride won't move with me on it

    5. Not fitting in my bathtub to take a bubble bath

    6. Not having the energy to do anything

  3. Aww, thanks. I plan to go ahead and start a variation of the pre-op diet that they gave me. It's really striving for a certain number of Protein and carbs for 4 small meals per day.

I feel better knowing I'm not alone but I know I need to get my rear in gear! I've also had a muscle spasm in my back for 3 weeks so that's not helping. I do start the supervised fitness program this week too so hopefully that helps. My whole life I have feared going to see doctors and having to get on that scale in front of them.

  4. I am scheduled for surgery on October 28. I'm self pay (in US, not in Mexico) and have my second appointment with my surgeon in a few days. The problem is that I have been gorging on food because I feel like I'm saying goodbye to a lifelong friend and habit. I'm so ashamed that I've gained at least 5 pounds and maybe more in a month and feel like the surgeon is going to be upset. Did any of you have any weight gain in the weeks before you started your pre-op diet?

  5. I think some people look down on me for having the surgery so young' date=' like they think I didn't give myself long enough to try and lose it on my own. Well I've been trying to lose weight and keep it off since I was 13 and was obviously unsuccessful.

The surgery has completely changed my life. Now I exercise 5 days a week and I love it. I've lost 110lbs and I never could have done that without this.

Good luck I hope you have another baby :)[/quote']

I think you are fine. No one understands how difficult it has been except you!

  6. Hehe :P

I felt like I was wasting my young years being overweight' date=' constantly yo-yo dieting since I was 13. Best thing I've ever done! Now I get to live and enjoy my youth[/quote']

I'm jealous! I wish I had realized it years ago, but I thought for sure I could do it on my own. I turned 35 yesterday so my goal is to be able to have 1 more baby before I get too old :)

  7. The pre-op diet isn't that strict - you can do 4 shakes per day, or you can substitute a healthy, Protein rich meal. I kind of fast-tracked since my insurance won't cover the surgery so I got the rundown ahead since I won't meet with Arianne but 1 time before the pre-op appointment.

As far as an estimate, I am self pay. I called the hospital and got a quote of about $14K but that's just an average really and it could go up or down. There are actually several charges - hospital, surgeon, anesthesiologist. Each bill separately so I had to get quotes from each and total it's about $20k.
