My tastes have changes significantly. I no longer like sweet things too much. And now, the spicier the better. I used to like mildly spicy things, but now BRING ON THE SPICE! I read about a study where they performed sleeve surgery on rats, and the rats naturally chose higher Protein, lower carb foods when given the option after surgery.

That is so funny..I used to hate eggs..the smell even made me sick. Now I love them! Everything tastes so different to me. I have noticed the texture of food a lot more now. Like I love the taste of bananas but the texture now is hard to deal with. The sleeve is a funny thing...but AWESOME!

Yes!!! I used to love scrambled eggs now they are just gross to me. Not sure if it's a texture thing or what! I am 6 months post op and I can try anything at this point. I have tried a few of my old "comfort foods" you know the ones you turn to when you need to feel better?1 Well so far I have been truly disappointed, they did not taste as good as I remembered or give me that "comfort" I was looking for. Which tells me the "comfort" part I got from the food was all in my head to begin with

Mike in LA got a reaction from Brenda0928 in Hey June 25 Sleevers
I was sleeved on June 28th and I'm down a total of 35 lbs (pre-op diet included) ...
I was extremely fortune not to have any real issues except some insomnia in the last week. I got home on the 30th, didn't take any pain meds once home and transitioned from the Clear liquids to some soft items the 2nd week. I'll admit I'm trying to get used to some more substantial choices. I've still followed a Protein shake for Breakfast and lunch most days and dinner has included one scrambled egg and some cottage cheese. I do feel satisfied. I returned to work after one week (desk job) and it's been OK ... the clothes are fitting looser and that's a little bit exciting. I thought I'd be in a hurry to get back to solids, but been doing ok with a combination liquid/solid regime. The first week or so I couldn't believe the amount of mental hunger I was experiencing. I know I wasn't hungry, but will all the commercials and such, i was really craving some of my old comfort food. Those have definitely subsided and I'm thankful for that. It was a little tougher than I thought and you just have to push through ... the changes has been drastic, but they are far easier to incorporate now that I have a few weeks under my belt ...
I'm glad I finally did this and can't wait to see how I can take full advantage going forward!!

I'm sad that I didn't find this sight/app before I went through the surgery.
I did all my research online and somehow missed this one.
I went through the pre-op pretty much alone and had my surgery on 28Jun13 ... so I'm just about 10 days out and doing "ok" ...
Didn't have too much pain or discomfort actually and was up and walking that same afternoon. Was out of the hospital in 2 days...
I'm taking it slow on the food. after completing the first 7 days of liquid and Soups, tried a scrambled egg at 8 days ... that didn't go over too well ... so waited and tried again this morning and found success, so slowly starting the "soft" food phase.
With the pre-op diet and the first 10 days since surgery, I've lost just at 30 lbs, so really excited about that.
Trying to keep the fluids up and that has been a challenge. I'm one of those gulp and go type drinkers, so learning how to nurse them, but still take my liquids.
Haven't felt too much hunger during this process, so that's good.
Still trying to figure out how all these permanent changes are going to be phased into my life and want to thank you guys for all your input.
    This is a great resource!!
Cheers and good luck to everyone on their own journey!!

Welcome, and congratulations!!!! It's interesting to see how doctors' recommendations differ.....for me it will be a week of Clear Liquids, then a week of full liquids, then a week of puree.....and perhaps by the 3 or 4th week soft foods.....Best wishes

Welcome ..I've found this site to be very helpful even when it comes to some of those silly questions you otherwise wouldn't think to ask (or might not want to ask)
    Good luck!!

Welcome aboard! I'm also a recent sleever (July 2nd), but I've been hanging around this site for about a year and a half now (first 8 months as a lurker before I took the plunge and joined). Hopefully we can all help each other along the way!
