1. Used to be a big coffee drinker but gave that up 3months ago when I started eating the alkaline diet way for fertility. Don't know why I attempted a little instant cafe vienna yesterday. It didn't even taste good. My taste buds have totally changed. Most foods and tastes disgusts me now. Good cause I'm trying to lose weight right?!
2. Maybe the alcohol is irritating your stomach. This happened to me with coffee yesterday.
3. Started having a lot of oral secretions that choked me yesterday. Not so bad today.
4. I notice that happens too. Out of nowhere someone gets rude. If you disagree it can be done in a civilized manner.
5. Ever noticed how many of us nurses are on this site? I think we find it easier to take care of other people than ourselves. By the way nursing school sucks and there are plenty of eccentric nurses most either work psych or like I did in the ER. I started out as an Art major switched to nursing as a way to guarantee I could support myself. Making 6 figures a year is wonderful and I actually love what I do. There are so many things you can do besides just bedside nursing. Now I am a case manager. I think I will get into bariatric case management. Just a thought.
6. Its over now. Warm fluids feel great right now. Will try to really make sure I eat only 1 ounce. That's all I can manage right now without that heaviness.
7. Been going to the beach every day when I haven't been in 7 years. Only 3 weeks post op but I'm feeling much more confident. And the mall! Wow its like a whole new experience. I go in and out of every store not just lane bryant and bath & body works. So much more enjoyable. Oh and I bought 2 new swimsuits in size 16!
8. I work in the hospital and got to tell you in my 20 years as a RN I have never found any dietician helpful to either me or my patients. They hand out preprinted crap over and over again but ask them to think outside the box and watch them panic. I have found doing my own google searches more helpful.
9. I will tomorrow but now really think it was the coffee which he said I could have. Won't be repeating that again. I do notice there's been certain foods that have caused nausea these past 3 weeks most notably protein shakes of any sort. I think I may have also over ate this am but still only eating about an ounce or two. Because I felt super full and was uncomfortable until I threw up.
10. I got this book today. I'm going to devour it tonight.
11. Tried instant coffee this am. Ever since then the mashed potatoes, applesauce, and soup isn't staying down. Must be the coffee. Liquids are fine just not a lot because I feel so full. I guess its a learning process.
12. I had a setback today. 3 weeks post op and all of a sudden I projectile vomiting while driving. Now all day I vomit after I eat. Still on pureeds. The baby tummy isn't happy today. Trying not to be depressed about it.
13. I say keep showing up to the doctors office, urgent care, and ER for the vomiting and choking. Magnify your complaints don't minimize them. Trust me they will recognize its cheaper to take the damm thing out. Also file an appeal with your insurance company and a medical grievance as well with the medical group you belong too.
14. There are plenty of people who get lung cancer and never smoked or liver disease and never drank. I have personally taken care of many extremly healthy athletic patients who were terminally ill. My point is you could be a health nazi all day long and still end up with some castrophic illness or problem. We do not need to punish ourselves for being overweight. Not productive or helpful. No one is perfect. Striving for that kind of perfection sets you up for sabotage. This is a new way of life not a jail sentence.
15. They have several kinds of egg white protein at mothers market.
16. I had been having a lot of nausea. Figured out I get nauseated and that is my "I'm hungry" signal. Mashed potatoes are a good stand by in between the protein. I do oatmeal with a splash of lactaid milk 6gm protein with sprinkle of cinnamon for breakfeast. I do mashed potatoes with smashed toddler meat sticks or refried beans with little grated extra sharp cheddar or poached egg over tiny bit of refried beans and a drizzle of taco sauce for a quasi huevos rancheros. I have not found one protein shake I can stomach. I keep trying new ones. Meanwhile I try to get as much protein from food sources and almost can get in all that water.
17. Zofran is worthless. Ask for phenergan, works better.
18. I was googling low carb smoothies and saw something about egg cream smoothies. Anyone try those before?
19. Try taking antacid 30 min before you eat. I take pepcid 20mg twice a day.
20. I look forward to eating meats and fruits and veggies too. I hated my band but somehow always thought it would get better. Its reassuring to hear from others who had their band longer than me say it doesn't. I'm sleeved now 3 weeks there's no going back. Being banded is so dysfunctional. First you its almost impossible to eat right due to getting stuck. Second when you show up to the doctor who put it in they blame you for its failure. Yeah buddy iits my fault I choke on coffee and water.
21. I can't do the shakes either. Been battling nausea for the past 3 weeks post op. What helped was homemade mashed potato soup 1 or 2 ounces every 1 to 2 hours. And pepcid 20mg twice a day. You could ask about reglan prescription.
