  1. Hi Macy6,

At the end of "Stranger Here", did you cry out in frustration, "what happened to Ben???", like I did?

No because I read the epilogue and she is with a woman now

According to her blog, Jen is actually with Ben and has been for a few years. Not sure if they're married, but they've bought a house together. The "lesbian life partner" comment directed at Monique in the Acknowledgements (not epilogue) is in reference to their motorized cart dramatics (i.e., a joke).

  2. These are a bit expensive, but they're really good and low carb:

I have found Parmesan cheese crisps. They are delicious, crunchy and made totally of cheese. They are 80 cal, 6 grams of Protein in 1 serving (3 good sized crackers. I love them with tuna salad. I think they sell them at whole foods but I buy them online. They are made by "kitchen table bakers", I think is the name

    http://www.kitchenta...gedparmesan.php

I've included a picture of the nutritional facts of Pork rinds & the link to the Parmesan crisps nutritional facts. Considering you can't eat much its not too bad for either....in my opinion.....

Found these same Parmesan crisps on netrition.com for $4.99 a bag! There's a $4.95 flat shipping rate, which is worth it if you buy anything else off the website.

  3. They are foods that don't cause your pyloric valve to close, and so you can eat tons of them. When you eat dense Protein, the valve at the bottom of your stomach closes, and your stomach starts to digest the good, so you feel full. That's why we are to eat Protein first. In contrast, if you have useless or refined carbs, like candy, sweets, cakes, donuts, popcorn, etc., those aren't dense like protein and you can eat a LOT of those foods and completely undermine your sleeve, because they slide on through to your intestines.

Hence the term sliders. Worth researching so you know what to stay away from.

    Thanks for the clarification, GG!

  4. Sorry just realized someone else already recommended these :).

Not a problem, Stacy. It's actually good to get the same recommendation from two different people! I noticed these are spendy on Amazon - have you tried other brands of parmesan chips? Did you have any issues with lactose intolerance? Thanks!

  5. What are slider foods

Ashince, from my understanding slider foods are those that are not the healthiest, but that you can manage to overeat. For example, eating an entire delivery pizza over the course of a day by having a slice at a time. If anyone has a clearer or more informed explanation, please elucidate!

  6. I do too!! I buy alot of there name stuff since i have been sleeved I read every label and really just stick to less is more. They have an awesome nonfat greek yogurt 12 grams of Protein and their own grilled chicken ingredients are chicken breast salt and olive oil thats it no preservatives. 100 calories for 3oz 21 protein cant beat it. Try them out next time its healthy and easy . Im always on the run so its convenient . Im gonna look up Maries Gone Crackers right now. lol

What I wouldn't give to have a TJ's on the southern Oregon coast! Tell me more about their grilled chicken: What section do you get it in? Is it sliced into strips or deli-style?

  7. Hi I dont know if you have a Trader Joes by you, I eat small a little bigger than poker chip size crackers. they are called original savory thins they dont haveregular flour they have rice meal and soy but they are very crunchy. 1 serving is 15 crackers I go for 7 at a time because if you put tuna or hummus on them thats really all you need. Just take out your few crackers for meal, and put box away. lol I hope that helps and no Im not supposed to have carbs for 6 months but I dont want my body to freak when I do decide to have healthy carbs so I eat the crackers.

Love, love, love TJ's but the nearest one is almost 3 hours away. Next time I'm in the vicinity I will check these out! In the meantime, I'm wondering if Mary's Gone Crackers would work. They are also rice flour-based.

  8. I LOVE Kim's magic pops. They are 15 calories with no fat and no sugar and they are huge. Very sleeve friendly.... I can eat a whole one. Great for tuna or chicken salad, guac, hummus, laughing cow cheese, etc. They come in different flavors but I have only tried the plain ones. I can't buy them locally, so ordered a whole case from the website, and share them with a friend. Just google Kim's magic pop.

Thank you so much for the suggestion! This is exactly the kind of thing I was looking for. I just ordered a 6-pack sample box.

  9. I'm nearly six weeks post-op and would really like a vehicle for all this egg/tuna/salmon salad and hummus. My meal plan says nothing about crackers except for unsalted Saltines weeks 5 & 6. I'm skeptical about Saltines because I used to binge on them and haven't had refined flour for almost two months now.

When were you able to successfully incorporate crackers and what kinds worked better with the sleeve early on? Do you know of any sleeve-friendly crackers/bread substitutes (I can't have raw veggies yet)? I'm not concerned about grams of carbs, just the risk of awakening the refined carb monster, and the pain that comes with pointy foods.

    Thank you!
