  1. why did you have to sign a form? is it dangerous?
  2. Well, you know 33 lbs is nothing to sneeze at. Ask yourself if you would have been able to even do that in previous years. I think you are doing great
  3. I'm drinking water right now friend. Lots and lots of water.
  4. Yeah I'm excited. I'm making myself a ceviche to say goodbye to shrimp tonight. LOL - I go on my liquid Proteins tomorrow morning! I will let you know what happens! /nilsa
  5. Wow, that pretty much sums up what I needed to know. LOL thanks
  6. DLW: 50 years old is not too late at all. I am being banded in NY on 8/13 and although I am 42, I met a lot of people over 50 at my surgeon's office who are so happy and one in particular, I met in March of this year. She was 55 years old and she was extatic about her results. She had lost like 58 lbs since the previous December. I would say that is great!
  7. Wow! You are very inspiring. I chose the band and have not been banded yet but I am too afraid to do the gastric and two girls at work are blowing up and gaining a lot of weight after the gastric surgery because they are not respecting their bodies - and that is scary because they are stretching that little stomach that is left after the bypass. One person is doing well but the other too - should have been way thinner by now but they are messing it up big time. I like the idea of being able to remove the band if anything goes wrong.
  8. Hi all: I have heard that it is important to be hydrated because there can be complications with the surgery if you are dehydrated on that date. Does anyone know anything about this?
  9. August 13th for me. Good luck to everyone
  10. that's great to hear. I will be going under the knife on 8/13. I hope I feel the same way you do
  11. Hi: Where are you going to have your surgery? I am having mine on 8/13 at NYU. There are other considerations when your BMI is not morbidly obese. sleep Apnea, Diabetes, and things like that. They are called co-morbidities. You should be ok though as long as your doctor monitors you and puts you on a supervised diet for a min. of 6 months.
  12. I hope that changes for you. I hope your company revises their plan. How much will it cost where you live. I could never ever pay for this surgery myself here in New York. It is a minimum of 25K for the facility that I chose.
  13. There are two people here at my office who did the bypass and they are gaining weight like you wouldn't believe. And, they eat all the things they were not supposed to be eating, even though they end up sick - so I have a different opinion about this (from what I have seen first hand)
  14. Ummm, I think you should be looking at this in a positive way. You are doing amazing. 209 to 172 in exactly 2 months? I wouldn't necessarily be complaining right now. You are doing great.
  15. You are very very cool! I want to be you in a few weeks!
  16. My surgical coordinator told me the same thing. The reviewer who denied me was a nit picker and he wasn't budging at all even though he had all the information and my records dating back to 95 regarding obesity. But that is over and done with.
  17. Thanks so much for responding. I appreciate the link also. How much have you lost so far? /nilsa
  18. Julie: You lost an average of 12 or so lbs a month right? wow. was just looking at your ticker. You are an inspiration!
  19. Thanks Jacqui and Julie! I could understand what you mean Jacqui because you are taller than me but i'm at 239 and my bmi is much higher, given the fact that i'm only 5ft 1inches tall. I am trying very hard to stay syked and be happy about this decision. I will keep you guys posted. Thanks again!!!
  20. Hi: I started my journey for this in January and I'm being banded on 8/13 by Dr. Fielding. I met him only once and I felt pretty comfortable with him. He has a strong reputation for knowing what he is doing and he is also banded and knows first hand what anyone is going through which made me very comfortable. It is hard to go through the process once you get your appointment with the surgical coordinator because she works so hard and is constantly busy. You cannot get her on the telephone, the girl works like a horse, so that was the most frustrating part for me because she is the person who deals with the insurance and my insurance happens to be the worse of them all (Aetna). So, onward and upward and hopefully downward in weight! Keep me posted! /n.:ranger:
  21. Hi: I'm curious, what are these surgeries that Dr. Fielding will be performing on you? Were you originally banded? I am very green with this language, so please forgive me. thanks, /nilsa
  22. Hi everyone, I am being banded on 8/13 but until now, I had not thought about fills and how much they even cost. I am going to be banded in NYU by Dr. George Fielding. Does anyone know how much the fills cost? I have Aetna by the way. In case that matters some how. I just figured it would be like a co-payment or something. Anyone know? Thanks!:ranger:
  23. hi everyone: I used to exercise all the time and I had lost 150lbs on my own doing it. i loved it when I was into it but then of course I stopped it all together and gained all my weight back my question is as follows: at my current weight of 239 lbs, I do not exercise because I leave the gym limping. I have knee pain every day and therefore am not exercising because of course, i have that as an excuse. for people that were really big, now that you are exercising and you lost enough weight to do so, do you find that the knee pain went away enough to let you get your cardio done? thanks
  24. hi guys: I have been overweight and obese most of my life. Then I lost 150 lbs like 10 years ago and kept it off for like 7 years by working out with weights and stuff. The truth is that men who want you will be with you no matter what. I fell in love with a guy when I was skinny and i have regained the weight back and he is still around. In fact, the sex is somewhat better now that I gained weight than when I was thinner, which is a little freaky but that's the truth. This is a man that could be with skinny women any time he wants. He is not fat; he is quite lovely to look at; bottom line, it has to be all about YOU. The inside person is who completes the situation. so -- don't worry about people who walk away because of the band or because you used to be fat. Please, that is so superficial and so freaking hollywood. who needs that? Believe me, you will be with the right one and it won't be some idiot who goes...... OH NO SHE USED TO BE FAT! :kiss:clap2:
  25. Hi Everyone, Im not banded yet for a couple of weeks still but I am reading stuff that I do not understand. What does "sweet spot in the band" mean exactly? There are other terms that I don't understand, like PB'ing. What is that? thanks to everyone who responds. /n.:ranger:
