  1. Amen to that one. Even if they are a size 4, some are different. I mean some people can get over the flu by themselves and others need IV's or hospitalizations. Does it really matter if someone gets the surgery to help them be healthier? My gosh its not like we don't recoup the money spent in a few years. Jeez ... you know am I the only one who thinks that the mindset of those NOT getting surgery need more adjustment than those GETTING the surgery?
  2. You can get complications at any time. Most are in the beginning. Anything after tends to be nutrition related. So appreciate the prayers and thoughts.
  3. Where is her doctor in all this? Does he have experience with these issues? Question for you - is she on TPN? A PICC line or something?
  4. Congrats! Would be nice if we could all meet together on a Saturday sometime mid state or something.
  5. What I hope is that people share their stories. The more patients know the better we can make things for the next group of people going through. That's why I tell mine.
  6. I am wondering how long Nelson and Emily will hold out. I hope someone gets it. I could think of a trainer or two who would love it. I would think its pretty good because Wallops Island is a little closer there.
  7. Oh my word. It is incredible how people are. So much more we could be in building each other up instead of tearing each other down. That would take off most of TV from what I hear.
  8. Dang I had TPN for 5-6 weeks. Really stunk but unfortunately I'm headed back in that direction. Most all my labs are good but I have every sign of worsening malnutrition. I really don't want to go through that again but its temporary instead of a feeding tube. Considering my skin peels apart now, a surgical procedure would NOT be a good idea for me. I'm surprised you got one. How did your doc manage that?
  9. Oh my don't tell our developers that. My sister said Chesapeake was rural, you all are ruining it like Va. Beach. Not a speck of land they don't want developed, with the "grass" and "trees" spots around. Now going out to Emily and Nelson Fletchers place for dog shows, now THAT's a wonderful spot. Belroi ... gracious what a lovely place.
  10. Gloucester? Used to have a lot of dog shows up there. Loved the area, beautiful!!
  11. I'd want to know a lot about the background of the doctor and group that did this. This sounds like a surgery mill.
  12. A Jtube? Did you get TPN first or other things?
  13. Checked all the vitamins too? Not just regular ones?
  14. Did they check the inner ears also? I have ear damage and that can cause it. Or did they guess the flu/cold?
  15. Yes, its called orthostatic hypotension. Did you have high blood pressure in the past? Are you still on meds? My BP was going way too low and that's what happens. Malnutrition has caused it for me also.
  16. Great comments Sally, I think the other item I would add is that drinking also makes a difference. I don't drink anything but Water, Powerade Zero, or other zero calorie drinks. I can manage an ounce or so of milk in coffee but its got to be a good amount of coffee and drank over a 10-15 min period or so.
  17. Wow. I never would have guessed any of those foods. Mine is always salad, veggies and fruit, with lean Proteins. If I want anything fattening, then I make it. That means a cookie or something and I make it to share with others. I'm not a chocolate fan. Tonight, I went and got salad with chickpeas, Beans, peas, egg, and then some chicken. I also got some fruit. I'll eat off this until tomorrow. I have some other left over salad I'll eat too. Most people would put a good amount of cheese on it but dairy and I don't seem to get along any more. That really surprises me.
  18. You were able to get another surgeon? In this area, the big 2 places have non compete agreements. Then the one other hospital that does them in the area will not perform them because certain doctors "fraternize" with other doctors. Either way, they won't do it once you're touched by another doctor. I also developed GERD/reflux after surgery and its been bad at times. Just depends on what I eat. So I've got no chance at getting it fixed. Another reason why you should investigate thoroughly - and my blog is getting updated to reflect my records and others experiences so that people can be educated, which always makes for the best possible outcomes for the patients. I learned very quickly when I asked one place, what am I getting for my money and they said oh don't ask that. You are the one paying thru copayments and the like, your sick leave, etc. so get the best you can for your money. You are doing this because YOU are worth it - make the investment.
  19. Developing new friendships is one way out of that. I have friends who races, in a group that does, then there are swimming meets, biking groups, meet some new people and make new friends. I also have healthy eating groups. I do mean outside of your surgeon's area. Most of those I see are just simple things once a month or whatever. We need those who are going to keep us going and help 2 times a week or more.
  20. Going to drink water or a non calorie beverage, 5 ounces of that, and then think whether or not you want it or not. The other is going out for a 10-15 min. walk. Try those first.
  21. The other point you need to remember is that we need healthy food. An apple is healthy. Salad is healthy. I can see eating one apple since its a carb, but eating salad or lettuces, veggies like broccoli or cucumbers, proteins like chickpeas, those are healthy for you.
  22. True but there are a lot of sacrifices to stay that way. I eat a lot of food but make sure it is lean Protein only and veggies. I do have food intolerances that don't help but that's what works for me. Never expected all this. Then again, I never expected my surgeon and his attitude and how it would negatively affect my care either.
  23. Wait until you have a hospital stay for malnutrition, a PICC line for 5-6 weeks, and then problems from neuropathies, polyneuropathies, cataracts, and most of all not being the athlete you were, and you'd not think the tiny ones are that fortunate. In addition it delays plastic surgery. Oh and one last thing: it is easier to find age appropriate clothes for plus sizes than below size 4. So don't think that everything is peachy on this side of the equation. It isn't. Forgot: I got a reflective shirt, bright yellow, with a running skeleton on it. My sister said amazing likeness.
  24. Yes. The hardest thing, I wore size 20-18 and I had less problems finding clothes appropriate to my "station" and age than I do now. I'm below 4 and actually don't recommend people going this low. Its not even easy in petites which I am since I'm short. I never come back on them. I encourage them to eat & drink healthy, walk, but I never make comments about the weight. Sometimes the best thing is to simply demonstrate who's the mature personality.
