Alright! They seem to have a good program from what I heard over there. Several of the guys here came from that program. The problem was the circumstances under which it was done. I called about a potential HIPAA violation, and a few other things. 2 days later I was gone. Retaliation is illegal under the law. Doesn't help me any. No, no surgeon in the area will take you due to non compete agreements. No one is handling it. That's why things are tough now, I've been getting muscle spasms and now chest pain flare ups. Suffice it to say the malnutrition started giving me circulatory collapse, edema ... lots of stuff. I just help people and do what I can now while I can. I don't want to see others in my position so I do all I can to warn them and educate them. In November 2012, my urgent care PCP caught that by the medical research, I appeared to be having neuropathies, possibly due to malnutrition. They are documented now, and all the other things starting to go, but there is little they can do. I tell people to still get the surgery. Had it not been for all the complications and the guy I got stuck with (I had an intro w/another doctor and asked for him but they wouldn't allow it and I was assigned the surgeon I did), I would have been home free. I do tell people to investigate the doctor though, and know where to go if they have a problem. It is in my medical records that my urgent care doc suggested the issue & it is not in the surgeon's notes at all. In other words, never caught. Never treated, while I was with him. Now it doesn't matter. I've done a ton of things, make up things you have only dreamed of doing and do them!! You will love the life!

Thanks. That's what you get when a surgeon dumps you when you've always had visits 3 months apart or less, 16 months after you're gone (when it is not recommended). I alleged a HIPAA violation among other things and was dropped 2 days later, and retaliation is illegal by law. The surgeon never picked up the signs of malnutrition nor neurological complications from malnutrition. They are straight out of the medical research. That's why I say investigate, investigate, investigate who you are talking to in terms of surgery. Yes, it is sad to say that the Mom who told me has a degree in art but the surgeon didn't know. I should have realized that was a harbinger of things to come. Those are some off the top of the head but can you do any cheeses?

Hold your mouse over the persons name. A menu will come up. There is a small sidebar on the left and then in the right hand area under the top menu, you'll see the shoulders/head image of a person. It says As add friend.

They haven't resolved. They've gotten worse. The surgeon bailed on me. First 2 weeks: egg, tuna fish, Water, applesauce, poached chicken or any type of chicken that is soft. Use mustard or low fat/vegan mayo. Soups, broths. That was first 2 weeks. Btw, if the surgeon recommends liquid childrens' Tylenol beware. I was told to have some for the one area where the stomach was pulled out, where my drain was. Holy cow ... I was on the floor, the first time dumping. Trust me I chewed the surgeon's name. I asked a MOM and she said that is way too much sugar ... Make sure anything has broth or gravy. Don't push it, do your best but do not beat yourself up over what you can and can't get in. This is not a race, take it easy in terms of food. Bending over too.

Yes, post op by over 2 years. A number of complications and I've learned to take of and advocate for myself. You don't need that with all doctors, some though do need a bit of ego busting. Educating too LOL. I'll do anything I can to help.

Me either but you can do it! Savedbygrace had it right. Just because others dont agree with you taking your health in hand doesn't make them right and you wrong.

Wernicke Encephalopathy in Subjects Undergoing Restrictive Weight Loss Surgery
That's true. I've seen medical research that has mentioned deficiencies even with those who take their vitamins.

Back to work-Nosey co-workers
You know I read this and its odd. I'm the fundamentalist, conservative Christian. I support people in whatever happens, and don't gossip. I've got people who have a more liberal view and they do. Gotta make you stop and think. I'd be asking people what I tell them - how is me passing this on going to make things better? Is this going to demonstrate my helping them or making me feel superior because I'm using information on someone to put them down? I mean I was put on this earth to be a "helpmeet" not a tale teller or busy body. In my church, that would NOT go over well and rate a call from a Deacon. Ok, making Desserts for everyone that don't include Splenda and sending a diabetics' blood sugar over 300 didn't impress everyone ... but hey ... What we need to be focused on is keeping each other safe and healthy and supporting. That and letting others know who is a good doc to go to and who isn't. If they're not supportive past the surgery, why bother?

Back to work-Nosey co-workers
How about I'm went on a prison diet, since I'm going there for beating up someone asking me stupid and private questions.
-
Back to work-Nosey co-workers
Exactly - doggone people need to gossip. The reason why people tell me things is I support and don't repeat. That's what people need: support. Whether you are losing it thru surgery or gym/diet, doesn't matter. Its the support that does.

Giving Up your favorite foods
How do you set your mind on being healthy for the rest of your life? Do you want to dig your grave with a knife and fork? I was glad to trade it to enjoy life and the longer life I would have being thinner, healthier. I'm not as worried about favorite foods as having them in moderation is fine and my tastebuds have changed, as has my relationship to food.

Back to work-Nosey co-workers
I would say that I had some medical problems that needed fixing and when that happened, weight loss is a side effect of the treatment. That's not lying and is generic enough that they have an answer and don't need to know more. I'd then ask why they needed to know and what effect would it have on the working relationship for them to know. Usually things like that get them to get the hint.

does chewing gum help sweet craving?
If you are talking pre surgery, yes go ahead. Anything to help you. A healthy treat is always great - apple, banana, carrots, those are natural sugars and will give you healthy nutrients you will need. As for drinking, just get used to sipping sipping and more sipping. Don't be worried or beat yourself up because its going to take a bit to get used to after surgery. The other is do you do carbonated drinks? I took 3 weeks to come off them. Slowly tapered, and didn't have any headaches. People who drink them and then go cold turkey are usually inviting headaches big time. Most places I hear give you a few days to a week or more to lessen your eating so your liver shrinks. So unless you want hunger on top of that, you might want to consider that. Note that I worked the week and right up to the day before my surgery, with a week of a very low calorie/fat/sugar diet. It can be done but it depends on your discipline.

Mentor Needed
I would ditto all of the above. Whatever way you can get drink or food in, protein, do it. Don't bat yourself if you can't get 64 ounces and 3 meals a day in. Just do what you can. Slowly it should get better. If by the end of 3 weeks or so it doesn't, that's another story.
