  1. Hmmm waiting to get healthy, but otherwise anything swimming or running or triathlon, fun bike rides, in Hampton Roads, Va.
  2. My concern is the studies that have come out saying that 8-10% (if memory serves) people get reflux so bad with the sleeve they need conversion. If it is where you can't live without it, then it makes me wonder if that falls in the realm of retractable reflux that is solved with conversion to RNY.
  3. Has anyone said anything about extra B12, etc. to you?
  4. Nothing like hearing posts like this. Congratulations!!
  5. Let me suggest this: if you want treats in the house, make them yourself. You see the easy availability of Snacks is a problem. Fill the house with the good veggies and fruit since that is going to help you. food is not a reward, maybe for your animals, but even the "good life" results in a whole lot of animals needing hip fixes and the like for weight issues.
  6. Um no you don't. I was on a PICC line for 5-6 weeks. It really sucks. That being said, having the problems I did, yeah I can feel for you. Some days are really bad. What can you eat that isn't? You do end up having to force yourself, trust me the alternative isn't any good.
  7. They've found that 10% of people need a sleeve revision to RNY due to reflux. You might be one of those. Yes, I was finally taken off them. I am on my way to osteoporosis. In my 40's I get Dexa's every year because I am going downhill with some "significant" loss. I've had Vit D trouble, my K is so low it doesn't register. Had IV Iron for anemia. My zinc has been low ... just some of the issues. That being said, have you tried Gaviscon and going to smaller more frequent portions? Don't eat or drink anything 3 hours before you go to bed. I say drink because I've refluxed drink a number of times. Beware of anything fatty or something other than lean lean Protein and veggies or fruit (light at that) before you go to bed. Oh my gracious, recently I tried to get some 4 bites of BBQ cooked in Water in, with chicken and some salad. Over 3 hours later, I was still refluxing and unfortunately needed to go to bed. Then again, the other item is to see if you have something other than reflux. Some of mine could be due to delayed gastric emptying. The sleeve was supposed to take care of that but it hasn't. Its still there, some of it. I was given a medication a day or so ago. Its not perfect, but it is helping some. Better than nothing.
  8. I'm impressed. How are people getting in that much? I was lucky to get 800 or so today (ok I'm sick but still) but that is a rough estimate. I thought we would only get in 1000 at the most? That's what I've heard but if I'm wrong I need to know to correct it so I pass on right info.
  9. Can you stop now? If you do, you should be ok. If you can't stop ... trust me, going in the doctor is going to figure it out. If your liver hasn't shrunk, they'll know it. I had an instance where they opened the person and they had dinner in the intestines. If the doctor had knicked the intestine, they could have died. Seriously ... think about it. We'll support you all we can here, but there is a reason for the diets before surgery.
  10. Well, what about cutting out 1 of the Protein drinks and eating it and one coffee a day for one week? That's it. Nothing else you change. That way it is a slow removal, doesn't shock you or your system. Make it easier on yourself. I did that with sodas when I saw how people were on the headaches due to going off sodas. It took me 3 weeks to gradually phase them out, and then for my last "meal" I had my favorite Diet Dr. Pepper. Last one forever. No headaches. So try that, just a small change, one thing (or in this case 2 items). Nothing more for one week. Don't change but just trying to get protein in other ways and drinking more Water or Crystal Light or Powerade Zero or flavored water and then solid Proteins.
  11. Ditto all the above. One thing: you realize what is going on. The next step is to slowly take control again. You feel control is being taken from you due to your husband. food is NOT going to help you. As you've seen, its only going to hurt you. Its not the crutch you think it is. Do you have others you can reach out to there? Support groups? Family? Friends? Church/religion?
  12. Girlfriend forget the scales its the CLOTHES you need to be worried over. I was going nuts ... bloody ... I went from 18/20's to 0's in 4 months 1 week and then not long after, 00's. I thought I'd be in size 8's, I'd blow a ton of money because I'd be at my college size (smaller than my high school size) of clothes. Well I blew that and said YAY and then ... um ... size 6 ... size 4 ... and I was adding another reason to just yammer at the doctor going YO I mean Y O D U D E ... so really, after surgery, concentrate first on the clothes and forget the scale until you start leveling off. You know what? A full wardrobe and the like at size 8 and then having another wardrobe at size 0, the cost of a scale isn't something you need. Its also on trying all the Protein shakes, bars, what you can put that Protein powder on ... Vitamins that you can stomach ... and all the new serving bowls, plates, forks, spoons ...
  13. Do you really need a scale at this point? Here's the thing, the doctor is going to be weighing you and you'll see things drop in clothes. A scale is truly better in maintenance time, then worrying over getting on the scale every few minutes. I've seen people have issues if they're not dropping 3-5 pounds a week, and your surgeon or the office should be watching that.
  14. WOW those are better ideas than what I got when I was with my surgeon. Thank you all!!!
  15. 800-1000 up to 1200.
  16. You aren't. We all have to adjust after surgery. The successful people, really, that's what they do: watch their food and exercise. No matter what, the tool is a tool, it is not a cure all.
  17. No veggies? Taco Bell and McD's and BK are not real food under any circumstances. Make it a habit Eat like a rabbit My middle boy Joe got a bite of a graham cracker I once had sitting down with him and petting him. He decided that one bite was enough. Just like one cracker for us is enough (ok I've had 2 but not big ones).
  18. Just be careful on Yogurt. It can be sugar or calorie laden. The other is that should you get dairy issues after surgery (I could drink a cow dry before {sigh}) you might want to get smaller containers or split them up.
  19. You did GREAT! I usually can find a salad with meat or get a sandwich with meat. Or some sort of chicken bites. Sometimes I pay for that though. LOL but at least its nice for a taste.
  20. You know, all that matters now is seeing people go through this with the least amount of complications and get the life they wanted. I'm so happy to see that others are going to do well with this. There are bumps in the road, but hopefully those potholes will be filed in and all will be well soon.
  21. You have made your own luck. I am so very delighted to hear that you are dating. That is one first step for accepting yourself. Hindsight is better than foresight. Keep on trucking. You will always question yourself, but at this point, will it help you? Keep your focus on losing the weight you want to lose, without all the self doubt that will only hinder you.
  22. I am so sorry. PPI's are Proton Pump Inhibitors. They're drugs that reduce stomach acid. They can interfere with B12, so that's why for bariatric patients, you need to be VERY careful of them. VERY careful. For a short period of time, fine, but any length of time, B12 is not a Vitamin deficiency you want. You want a GI who knows about these things or willing to learn so that you're careful of them. I'd be very leery of any one who uses them over the counter constantly too. I don't find that simple things like this are noted to bariatric patients.
  23. As I have found to my cost, they only move when you are at deaths' door, and sometimes not even then. Its more costly that way, the mindset of medical education. Sad ... I'm sorry for your suffering. I just wish I had the ability to do more.
  24. Yep just get the distance in and work on the speed later.
  25. Agreed there. However, you need to be careful as PPI's can cause their own problems. Lord knows I've certainly found that out. LOL.
