When should i start going to the gym

I am one week out today and my surgeon told me he wants me walking 30 min per day. He doesnt care if it is on a treadmill or outside. He doesnt care if it is 10 mins 3x/day but thats his expectation. He said nothing else, but then said no lifting over 15 lbs? This is all on a written form so I didnt ask him about it because it wasnt a conversation. I have an exercise bike, and an elliptical, I feel the elliptical is a no, but Im thinking the recumbent bike it ok? I dont have a treadmill unfortunately.
  2. I am only one week out today and I have not had this experience at all so this might not be the right answer, but I think eat again? My surgeon says I am supposed to eat 1/4c -1/2 c 3x a day and 2 protein shakes on pureed foods. It does not sound like you are eating anywhere near that much and maybe thats why your hungry? At this point Im still not sure my hunger is hunger, its just nothing like it used to be, and it happens like 1/3 days. When I think Im hungry, I eat though. I think your supposed to listen to your body as long as your not overeating.
  3. Aww they were an a*****e who even ask people that question anymore? I have intentionally not mentioned pregnancies that have appeared to be full term on the off chance the person might have packed on some lbs. 44 lbs is great I cant wait to lose that much and I think I might have a freaking parade when I weigh 223 lbs. Hope you feel better.
  4. I am getting my staples out tomorrow and I was excited because they itch so bad and are kinda starting to pull but I just realized that will probably be really painful, especially the 3 in my belly button. Anybody want to share their experience so I can try to mentally prepare?
  5. Ok, in fairness summer is back with a vengeance in my neck of the woods just when it looked like things were cooling off, we have had a series of 70-80 degree days. I have been afflicted with this new disgusting disorder, any time I move, or even stand, I sweat buckets. Its really a problem, it is dripping off of my neck, it is pouring down my forehead. I am not jogging I am walking and have deliberately started walking at a painfully slow moseying pace. I am not moving while standing just standing and talking. I have even been sweating in the shower! What the hell is wrong with me? My husband keeps saying he thinks it will be good for weight loss, Im thinking, do you have any idea how much effort it took to put that water inside of me that you are so carelessly allowing to pour out in bucketfuls if I do anything other than lay down and breathe shallowly? Just wondering if anyone else is having this new found problem and most importantly when it can be expected to stop.

    SWEAT

6 days, so I guess Ive got a while to go then? Looks like I will start praying for fall weather asap.
  7. Aww girl I am proud of you. I dont know your story but you ate one fry and I usually dump the bag out looking to see if there are more. You removed part of the croissant which was supposed to be your victory meal, and poured out your shake. Was today your best day? Sounds like a no, was it your worst? Im willing to guess that answer is the same. Have a protein shake for dinner and do some exercise. You didnt ruin anything, its one portion of one day of your life, it can be fixed. Just think at some point you ate like this, didnt feel bad about it and did it again.

    Totally bummed

During my appointments with the nutritionist I started doing medifast. I think that anyone that is looking to lose weight quickly to get surgery approval should try it. In about a month I lost about 40 lbs. From what your Dr is requiring it sounds like you would be pretty much done. It is kinda extreme in that you eat primarily mail order freeze dried food, but it works and it will get you where your trying to go. Some people just do mf the whole time and are usually successful in surgery like weight losses if they stick with it (I quit and regained most of my weight before the surgery) and because the program is very detailed it is easy to do. It might help you get to surgery quicker than you planned.

    SWEAT

No thyroid meds no blushing, just melting. Dont want to blame everything on a lack of a stomach but it has only been happening since the surgery.
  10. I dont have any idea of whether or not this happened, but I would like to offer some unsolicited advice. If you are getting your surgery anyway, dont bother looking for any additional information, it will only worry you. I read the complications boards on here and almost gave myself a panic attack leading up to the surgery, and for what? I was going to do what I was going to do. I understand making an informed decision and knowing all the facts but you said that you have already made your decision so at this point Im not sure more information will be a good thing.

    Exhausted

Lipstick Lady she is thin as a rail. I told my husband when I wanted to eat everything in the world, she was pissed now I dont want to eat anything at all and shes pissed. Shes skinny I dont know why shes so miserable all the time. Im not super upset that Im tired Im just surprised I thought I gave you all this protein what more do you want from me? I think I may have been not knowing I was tired because when Im at work I kinda zone out and do what needs to be done. I will probably learn the truth after tomorrow which is the last day I have appearances this week. Scottsgirl not real food but I am supposed to have 3 protein shakes with at least 20 grams of protein and 3 small meals (1/2 c cream soup with milk, greek yogurt, broth with extra protein powder) per day. My first day I ate 1 protein shake and one popsicle (which I later learned was a liquid not a meal) today I had all 3 protein shakes for a total of 73g of protein and 1/2 c creamed chicken soup with milk and 1/2 a greek yogurt. I thought, oh they want you to stay home from yourself so you can eat all day. My surgeon said 6 weeks off but I am self employed because of my weight I havent had disability insurance so if I dont work (at least a little) I dont get paid. I am super taking it easy, not really taking new cases, and just going in to handle my cases and coming right back home so I have really been fine.
  12. yes dear the difference is your skinny now! I took photos in a bra and panties day of surgery because i have had this same problem when I have lost weight in the pass.
  13. That sucks gallstones hurt so bad. I had them the entire time I was pregnant with my daughter everytime they caused me excruciating pain they just said I was having Braxton hicks contractions. They didnt find them until after I had her and then I had to be on an iv in the hospital for a week because all my internal organs were infected for having them so long. That sucked too but the point of this whole story is it is much better once its out.

    So damn hungry...

If you are on protein shakes I had one today from GNC the vanilla lean 25 and even though the directions didnt specifically say you could, I mixed it with vanilla almond milk and it was the thickest thing I have ever eaten post sleeve. Im pretty sure that will fill you up I had to go to bathroom immediately after finishing it.

    Hungry?

Im 4 days out I think I may have been hungry twice, but Im still not sure I was. Im not hungry at all and have no desire to eat. I am only doing so because my nutritionist said I have to and I wont heal plus my hair will fall out without protein. Based on the posts I have seen I am assuming this will change but this has currently killed my love affair with food and even my normal primal urge to eat to survive.
  16. Right before my surgery I started freaking out. I started to right letters to my family just in case I died (stopped that abruptly because I was crying my face off) prayed myself to sleep every night and was just going crazy. When I got to the hospital it happened so quickly and it was over so quickly I couldnt believe it. My surgery was 4 days ago now and I have no real issues. I had a horrible headache but I think thats because I was starving to death. Now that I have been drinking the proper amount of protein I have found that it has resolved and I also have been drinking some powerade zero which seems to really help as well. I am on protein shakes, yogurt, popsicles, cream soup, and pudding. I havent thrown up at all (even though some of the protein shakes have been disgusting) other than the headache my only other issues have been 1. a gas bubble in the middle of my chest that feels like it is trapped in my esophagus, 2. I think my staples are ready to come out the ones in my belly button feel like they are pulling and they all itch, 3. I am tired whenever I do anything physical and I sweat like a maniac. None of these are big deals or deal breakers to me. I dont know if it will stay this great but I am really glad I didnt back out.
  17. Okay I will start with a disclaimer, dont listen to me I am still a fat ass I have only been sleeved for 4 days and I dont really know anything. Having said that I got into this debate the other day on another post. I seriously doubt that eating 1/4 c of ziti will make you fat. I seem to be in the minority, but I dont think that eating food even devil food like pasta is the problem, I think that most overweight people have a problem with portion control and activity level. Have you ever in your unsleeved life eaten 1/4 c of ziti? If not (I know I havent) I think that was more than likely the problem. I think its really important not to super deprive yourself of everything you enjoy eating because thats when people go all out and eat everything they can get their hands on. If you think its really bad, do some extra exercise.
  18. So this feels like a stupid question to me because everybody says you will know when your full but I feel like Im full when I start eating so I dont get it. I ate maybe 1/4 a can of cream of celery soup tonight. I misread my directions so I did not add any liquid and I stopped eating it when I just didnt really want to eat anymore. I didnt want to eat it from the beginning though so Im not sure if that was the right time to stop. After every spoon I had to burp, but I never felt pain or discomfort, I didnt sneeze, hiccup, and my nose didnt run. I dont want to eat until I am uncomfortable but I guess since speaking to the nutritionist I want to make sure Im getting enough in.
  19. Im so sorry this is your experience I have a family member that is very close to me that sounds similar to your grandma. I have not completely cut that person off because I dont want to feel bad about myself when they die, however I do not have any type of genuine relationship with them at all. I call and or text for holidays/birthdays and have polite conversations rarely but for the most part I do not tell them any personal information about my life and I do not deal with her often. What I have learned over the years is that my problem with her really still stems from a problem that I have with standing up to her and shutting her crap down. I know this is your grandma, but you can still tell her in a polite and respectful way that the things she is saying are hurtful and that you dont want to hear her opinion on the matter. I have found that establishing and enforcing boundaries with my individual are the only way I could continue the relationship without having it come at to significant an emotional cost to me.

    Slice of pizza

I have noticed there seem to be two very different kind of sleevers on the boards, those that only eat really healthy things, and those that eat whatever they want in moderation. I am wondering if one is more successful than the other. I am assuming that one day I will want to eat and feel hunger again, and my plan at that point was not to deprive myself of all food that I enjoy but not to eat all the food in the world. I dont think that Im fat because I eat pizza, I think im fat because I eat pizzas, not a piece but multiple pieces, sometimes an entire pie in one sitting. I feel like if I manage to turn that into a piece I will have to lose weight or something is really wrong with my body. Of course I am 3 days out and the idea of drinking all my protein shakes is a daunting one to me, but I hope one day I can eat a piece of pizza again and not be a fat ass because of it.
  21. I have no helpful advice but am kinda excited that I might be hungry again in life.
  22. I have read some posts that said people should not drink out of straws after surgery because it will increase gas. Then on the flip side I have seen people say they are able to get much more down by using a straw. My surgeon didnt really have a strong opinion on it either way, the nutritionist said I might want to hold off in the beginning because they increase air in the tummy and I would have plenty of that. Now that I am completely disinterested in food I was thinking this might help me get in all that Im supposed to and I wanted to see what others thoughts were.
  23. I was sleeved 8/16. Since then things are good but I have noticed I have absolutely no desire of any sorts for food. I pretty much start each day already feeling like I am full. I am drinking lots of water and I ate a popsicle two days in a row. I have had one protein shake since I got home, I guess I want to know how much it matters if I eat. Can I really eat too little? My food plan says 3 protein shakes and 3 other meals a day but it doesnt say that I have to eat that much. I am making my follow up appointment and asking the nutritionist too, I guess I am just wondering how other people have been. I have seen some people talking about how they have been able to eat things like potatoes and beans while on clears, and Im perplexed because food, protein shakes, soup, it is all unappealing to me I am so full all the time. Do you think it matters if I only get in like a protein shake and a popsicle a day?
  24. Just got off the phone with my nutritionist and she said I am expected to drink 24 oz of protein shakes and 3 small meals daily in addition to 64 oz of water and it is not a maximum amount. I have decided she is insane. I am almost finished with my first protein shake of the day and I have literally been forcing myself to drink this and having tons of baby burps after every sip. Its funny when I completely ignored the food they brought me in the hospital no one seemed to care. Its also hilarious that I am having such a hard time getting in this much liquid as pre-surgery I really dont think my stomach had any limitations when it came to food or liquid. I guess I dont feel full, because I always feel full. I mean I dont feel anymore full than normal, I dont feel a different kind of full after drinking the protein shake, but I did start at 8 this morning so maybe Im not drinking it quickly enough to get the full feeling, although I really dont want to be anymore full than I am. Just complaining my face off before I go drink all the protein shakes in the world, thanks for listening.

    August 2013 Roll Call

I was sleeved on 8/16. I was super nervous but it will be over before you know it. My husband and I actually joked that it was pretty anticlimactic after all this build up. the dr gave me something to relax, and then next thing i know i woke up in my room. i was a little nauseous but they gave me meds for that asap and then i was nodding in an out like a heroin addict. it really was a lot less bad than i expected, especially after reading the complications board non-stop.
