    Favorite protein powders or rtd

Oooh! I didn't know Syntrax made a mint cookie flavor. Is this one of the nectar Sweets? I like the vanilla bean torte and the double stuffed cookie. One scoop of each in 16 oz Water is awesome!

    Breastfeeding

Yeah, the crying really sucks bigtime, but it won't be the first time or last time you deal with that. You just need to focus on what you need to do for yourself now with the big event coming up. If you just stop cold turkey, it's miserable, but it's over in a few days. Just take nice warm showers. That will make those "rocks" feel better.

    Breastfeeding

When my daughter was born, I breastfed her. After 2 weeks, my nipples were raw, sore, and close to bleeding. I was doing it correctly, but this was not gonna work out as planned. I called my ob/gyn about how to wean her, and they said to just stop cold turkey. I felt miserable for a few days, but glad I did it. You can resort to that if you need to.

Fooducate - Excellent App and Website

Here's another good one....Lose It!.....I have this app on my iPhone. My husband downloaded it for me. I haven't really played around with it yet, but he used it when he was dieting and really liked it. You can scan the barcode on something and add it to your food list. It will know all of the nutritional information of that item. Also has many restaurant items. You can also make up your own "recipes". He would put in for example 1 cup cooked penne, 1/2 cup sauce, 2 oz non-fat mozz. cheese and find out the total calories for that dish. Then he named it baked ziti and when he adds that food to his dinner menu it automatically knows the calorie count. This can be really awesome if you have a lot of "go to" foods or food combinations. Once you add a food that you ate, it will give you the total calories for the day thus far, and give you the remaining calories left for the day. Hope this helps.

What a bummer that your insurance covers the other 2 procedures, but not the sleeve!! Go figure! I've got a few more things to do, one of them being an endoscopy/colonoscopy on 7/11....Yup! I'm really looking forward to that one! My pre-op diet starts 2 weeks prior to surgery. It's 3 - 4 Protein Shakes per day, plus all clear and non-Clear liquids. If I struggle with excessive hunger, I can have some vegetable Soup, 1-2 tablespoons of Peanut Butter, raw or cooked veggies (non-starchy) with fat-free Parkay spray, or a salad with fat-free dressing. Once per week I can have 3 - 4 ounces of grilled poultry or fish. Just having that additional "crutch" of more food and being able to chew something is allowing me to go into it with a better mindset. If I need it, it's OK to go for it.

    First Consultation with Surgeon

I would see what happens when you meet the surgeon. The nurse will either do it there, or give you a lab slip to have it done elsewhere.

    First Consultation with Surgeon

When I had my initial consultation with my surgeon, they did bloodwork right there in the office. I am lucky in that my PCP is in the same network and that my insurance only needed one weight record in the past year. I already knew that my BMI would technically qualify me for the surgery. I am going to a weight management center that is part of a hospital network, and they could see the records from my PCP on their computer system. Where I am going is "one-stop shopping" for the most part......fitness, dietary, psych, metabolic breath test, home sleep study...they were all at the same facility, and I "stacked" many of my appointments so that I sometimes had 2 or even 3 appointments in a given day. That's how I got through some of this process quickly, plus my insurance only took 10 days to approve the surgery from the date the center mailed everything to the insurance until the day they called me to schedule my surgery. Everything will definitely vary by doctor and by insurance requirements.
  18. My husband read about this yesterday. I think it's terrific and about time! I agree with you....maybe insurance companies will begin to cover bariatric surgery routinely now. I work in healthcare billing, and I can tell you that there have been diagnosis codes out there for a long time for obesity and morbid obesity.

    The Down Side...

I'm going to give the almond milk a try...I'll look for it on my next grocery run. I think I'm going to try the Syntrax sample pack also. Thanks for the info!!

    The Down Side...

I was thinking about the chicken broth flavor from Unjury also. I'll have to give that a try. What about unflavored Protein? Is it really totally unflavored, or does it have a gross aftertaste? I'd like to be able to make SF Jello with that and be able to add it to savory foods later on.

    The Down Side...

Vixynne, that sounds really yummy!! I have never tried anything but regular milk. What brand is the almond milk you are using? My pre-op liquid diet starts 7/8 (surgery 7/22), and I just started experimenting with protein powders. I tried Jay Robb in 3 different flavors and hated it. My girlfriend and her husband use the Syntrax nectar Sweets vanilla bean torte. They gave me a scoop to try and it was delicious! Just tried the caribbean cooler yesterday and wasn't that impressed. I have a chocolate truffle one to try next. That double stuffed cookie sounds good. I'm looking for flavors that taste good even mixed with just Water, since that's what I will be drinking right after surgery.

Hey Daydra! Good to see another July sleever! How far are you in this process? Do you still have a lot of testing/consults to go to? How about the pre-op diet? Any idea what yours will be like?

I feel the same way!! As soon as I got the call that I had been approved, I was jumping up and down! My friends in my Corvette club as well as my family are really excited for me and are very supportive of my decision to have this surgery. ...and YES!! I think we should all stick together since our dates are so close. Just knowing that someone is going through the same things and can be there emotionally means a lot.
