About Me

My name is Roxanne and I live in New Haven IN. I have been thinking about WLS for the past ten yrs. My mom died on Christmas Day 2012. This is the unfortunate way I got the funding for this surgery. My insurance specifically dis-allows WLS. So, about three weeks ago I made the decision and made the arrangements. I have to admit that my mom would probably be on board with this. I don't think anyone was more surprised than her when I started to gain weight and couldn't lose it. I had never been over 200lbs. Until I turned 40 - then all hell broke loose. When the weight was shooting up, I would try to take it off and nothing would happen, or I'd have a 20 lb loss and soon after gain 25lbs back. About 6 years ago, I had to quit a management job because I had plantar fasciitis so bad that I could barely walk. I still can only be on my feet for about an hour and a half, my back hurts, my knees ache. It's only a matter of time before diabetes, HPB, and mobility issues pull me down. My mom started using a cane at my age. My mom had always weighed 300+ lbs my entire life. The last 10 years she scooted around the house in an office chair. I live in fear of that future. My husband is skinny and fit, for the past few years he's been asking me to do something about this. His concern is massive weight related medical costs. I must admit I get pissed even though it is true. So, I am starting my journey now, before July 30th when I actually have the surgery. I'm working on my mind-set, buying what i'll need post-op, and resigning myself to a different way of life.
