Yes to the mini bypass actually. I don't necessarily believe that the surgeons are " blowing smoke " I feel some really believe it or base it on the information available at the time but we learn more everyday. I always said the same about the band too, I don't feel I was lied to or misled about the band in 2007, I feel that I was told what we knew at the time and obviously we know a whole lot more 8 years later just like we will with the sleeve 8 years from now.

You can surely see the difference in the two though, right ? I'm not sure at all what swelling has to do with the X-rays though ? I would bet money if I had an xray today it would be even bigger as I know I can eat more now than I could in October when it was taken. I'm revising next week and I'll definitely ask my doc more about what he finds when he gets in there and keep you guys posted

It absolutely can and will stretch if you're not careful ! Iv worked with sleeve patients for years and have seen plenty of patients gain weight back from stretching the sleeve. I myself am one of them and I have xray pics at one day post op and one year post op to prove how much it has stretched. Why do you think their are revision surgeons that now resleeve patients? Just be careful, don't over eat to the point of misery and avoid carbonation. My sleeve was a 42 Bougie and I had scar tissue as well which made mine easier to stretch but it happens to others too.

No NSAID forever. However, he did say I can take a low dose of Celebrex once a day since the COX2 inhibitors are supposed to be easier on the stomach.

My surgeon said no NSAIDs for life. Said they can cause ulcers and thin the lining of the stomach. Since I have chronic and acute back problems and arthritis for which Tylenol is ineffective, that would be a problem for me.

Mine says forever. I'm back to Tylenol for mild headaches.
I had to switch to daily topimax for my Migraines and keep imitrex for when they start.
I had a lingering Migraine and my pcp gave me a NSAID injection. Totally bypass the stomach. Just to see if it would help.
Lots of new things with my sleeve. Lots of never things too....,

For ever. Long term use is not recommended due to ulcers. Short term use is acceptable if there are no other choices.

I have read several articles that talk about starvation mode is a myth -- it was based on a study of guys in Minnesota or Montana or some place really cold. BUT -- I agree, work on that protein! And don't let the head hunger get you down - we all have been through it!

Band07 got a reaction from weegie88 in For anyone considering lapband.
Take this for what it is, just my personal thoughts and experiences but that being said, I had a lapband for 6 years, Iv had the sleeve for a year and a half and I worked for a bariatric surgeon for almost 7 years. I LOVED my band, I went from 223 to 139 lbs and I maintained around 145 for years ! However, in order to do that I had to keep the band very tight. I couldn't eat anything before noon or after 6 without pain and suffering. When my body had enough I had shoulder pain and chest pain and never just felt full. I was always dehydrated and ended up with kidney stones twice but i was happy to sacrifice because I was a size 6/8 for the first time in my life ! But live long enough that way and it causes problems (severe reflux) and just misery any time you eat or try too. Of the hundreds of patients Iv worked with over the years, very few (maybe 30/40% ) have kept off weight and been successful long term with the band. My surgeon started offering the sleeve and after years of "selling" the band to others (with my personal success as a witness) I asked him to revise me to the sleeve because everyone said how wonderful it was. Well for many it is but for me I hate mine. It's not always the same for someone who has had prior surgery so as I type this today, I have gained almost 20 lbs since the sleeve and it's a fight (that I'm losing) to not gain more. That being said, if I was starting as a virgin patient today; I would choose the sleeve or the mini gastric bypass (which I'm revising too). We didn't know enough about the band in 2007 when I had mine but we now know there are cases of it fusing to the liver or embedding in the stomach wall and the chances are if you go with the band you WILL at some point have a revision. We really don't have all that long term study on the sleeve and while I don't worry and complications, I do think it will be at risk for regain. Do your research, make your own decision but i at least wanted to share my story

Hi, no issues at all crossing into Mexico. It was quite the wait going across into Mexico, very busy place that boarder crossing. I did feel really safe the whole time. They even have a 24 hour security guard on the floor (I was on second floor). My husband came with me and he even went out to the mall across the street and did not feel unsafe at all.

Just had my surgery with Dr Rodrigues on April 11th in Juarez. He and his team are amazing. Only thing is that the nursing staff does not speak a lot of English so if you download a translator app on your phone it makes it a lot easier to communicate. I'm only a few days post op and feeling great.

@@Band07 when I told my family I was going to The Dominican Republic for a Tummy Tuck in 2013 they thought I was crazy. However to this day with weight gain and all I still think it was one of the best decisions I ever made. You just have to keep remembering that this is for you! I'm having surgery on the 25th and couldn't be happier with this decision too!!!

Hi everyone! I'm officially booked for April 25th in Mexico.

I started this journey at 190 lbs which on my 4'10" body feels like a million pounds. After the last week of low carbs, high Protein I am at 187 lbs. I start the liquid pre-op diet Saturday and I'm hoping to be at 185 lbs the day of surgery.

I don't think 80 percent was cut away maybe because of scarring. I am supposed to mail a copy of disc to Dr Rod. I don't think I stretched it out. I have been talking to Jamie for about 8 months about how I was feeling, always hungry from day one.

Band07 got a reaction from Cleo's Mom in Did anyone like the band better?
Yes ! You are not alone ! I was banded in 2007 and did great as well. I revised to sleeve in 2013 and I hate it and Iv gained 20 lbs with it and I'm always hungry and it's truly like I never even had surgery at all of any kind. I never imagined that I would even consider any type if malabsorption procedure but I'm scheduled to revise to a mini bypass in less than 2 weeks and I can't wait to put this small Detour (sleeve) behind me and get back to losing weight again !

Im at florence Oasis of Hope hospital now. My surgery was this morning and I was very groggy. I tried walking twice but ended up sleeping for another few hours before finally being able to. Since then, I have been walking regularly but nothing is helping the gas trapped in my left chest area and around to my back shoulder blade. Am I in pain? No. Im just in discomfort with that air pocket. I dont feel pain in my incisions though, yay! Im looking forward to tomorrow. Will update then.
