I'm not sure whom you are talking to but here in Colorado it is legal, as well as Washington State. Currently there are 18 states plus D.C. that legalized for medical purposes, with another 11 states with pending legislation. During the economy crisis in 2008, the mmj industry kept our state afloat.
I have done extensive research on the substance, and I use to disagree with it. I wanted to divorce my husband for years ago. However, it's better than any of the medications the doctors give me, that cost tens of thousands a year. ... I have CT Scans and MRIs of the brain showing the brain on no substances, legal substances and illegal substances.
    The Brain killers are listed as follows;
    #1 Caffeine
    #2 Nicotine
    #3 Alcohol
    #4 Methadone
    #5 Amphetamine
Notice how all of those are legal.
    Now moving forward,
#6 Cocaine (crack is a by-product of this)
    #7 Heroin
    #8 LSD/Psilocybin
    #9 MDMA
Note that 6-9 use to be legal, some very recently.
Cannabis, through the International Institute in Israel, has been proven to have NO, ZERO, ZILCH negative effects on the brain. The products classified as most dangerous per DEA include Cannabis, Heroin, LSD and MDMA. Why, because the government cannot control us when we use these types of mind expanding products. Heroine received its name from Bayer, and was first advertised as "Bayer Heroin". Yes, the same company that makes Aspirin. Cocaine and Heroin remained legal up into the early 1920s, cannabis until late 1930s. MDMA/LSD until the 1980s.
Obesity is more of a health threat than cannabis is. Sugar is the worst! That’s why we are all here. Along with GMOs, preservatives, HFCS, etc.
So when someone who claims it's bad, I challenge them to look at them their own self. Cause it's likely the people who smoke cigarettes and drink coffee and love Starbucks. I say those people are already missing half a brain (literally) and no longer can think logically.
So, how many people drink soda/coffee and other caffeine products? How about those energy drinks and energy shots. Monster has a class action law suit right now against them for people who drink just one drink and have a massive heart attack. THEY ARE TEENAGERS!!!!! Teenagers are dying from Monster energy drinks. How about smoking? How many people smoke cigarettes here? Or drink alcohol? I can’t even count how many forums I’ve seen people complaining that they want their margarita or a cigarette, or even fast food.
John 8:7 "Anyone who has no sin in their life should step forward and throw the first stone. That sentence is often cited as a reminder to avoid judging others when there are faults in your own life that need to be addressed."

The answer is, it depends. It depends on if you're using insurance, if so, they have certain pre-op diet requirements. It depends on how long it takes you to complete your pre-op insurance requirements, which vary from company to company. Your work/school schedule if applicable. If you are a private pay, it can depend on when you have the money gathered up. If you're using insurance, do you have your deductable amount? There are too many variables for anyone to give you a difinitive answer. For some people it only takes 30 days, while others a takes a year.

Oh my dear, the VST support group at Penrose is full of people who have not had surgery and have had surgery. There are some very big boned people there. No one is going to comment at all, because everyone is on the same path. :-) The main gal who runs it, use to be over 500lbs. She had the VSG about ten years ago, and helps a lot. I will look up the info and post it in a while. It's not just sitting around talking. There is crafts, and meal planning, tip exchanges, etc.

I myself am not even a week post op. I did take before pics and I'll take after pics. I have only told my husband (obviously) and my children. My cousin who I'm very close to, she was going to get the bypass, my sister whom I adopted as my daughter (she's significantly younger) and my aunt (godmother) because she had the same surgery in the 80s. My husbands family is dying to know why I was in the hospital and what I had surgery for. But if they know, it's like posting it in a nationwide newspaper. And considering how awful they were to an in law of mine (there own family) they would be worse. When my 7yr old had skull surgery at 6months old, first they tried to blame me for her having saggital synotosis and then half of them pretty much disowned me and our daughter for allowing her to have the surgery. Yet she's healthy normal and fine. Same crap happened with my 14yr old when I let her have surgery to remove a horrific bunion that became worse when she went on a growth spurt last year.
Considering I've not always been heavy and I've lost weight, significant weight in the past, I don't think it'll bring anything of it. However, I have only told the same select people about other surgeries like hysterectomy, laproscopic endometrial tissue removal, etc. I'm an extremely private person and I don't tell many people things cause frankly, it's not their business. Plus, I don't need to hear anyone's opinions or thoughts. Self esteem is low enough right now. I have my husbands and children's support and my fathers families support. (Can't tell mothers side they are just as bad as in laws). That's all the support I need. Maybe if the gossipers didn't talk crap and gossip they would be in the loop, but they get what they deserve (to be out of the loop).

I'm only 2 weeks post op, but I found something that helps significantly with the gas, bloating, smell etc. It's called CharcoCaps, sold at Walmart in the Gas-X area. I used Gas-X for years, and after finding this product I won't be going back. I also use "Colon Clenz" Herbal colon formula, also found at Walmart. It's far more gentle than any other laxative. I also take Chlorophyll caps and Probiotics.

I did 10 days pre-op liquid diet. It is absolutely nothing like the post op liquid diet, or anything else post op for that matter. The healing phase is more about the healing process of just having 85% of your stomach removed, plus the fact that you have around 5 incisions, and stiches, etc. Any regretful feeling that I woke up from surgery having, as the sheer fact that I was in total misery. As such, one would have that feeling after ANY surgery. I know when I had my hysto, I had the same "wtf did I do" feeling. I'm now entering my 3rd week post op and I am feeling much better. I think of my digestive tract as that of a new born baby. Things have to be introduced slowly and if it doesn't work the first time, give it a few and try again.

The thing is this.... with those of us thrilled and the other side, who are not. It's kind of like being pregnant, people can tell you what it is like, some are miserable and sick, others feel better than ever. You can talk about indigestion, feeling the baby kick for the first time, how it is to have a basketball sitting on your bladder when you are 8 months along.....you just cannot understand what it is like until you are pregnant....or in this case, until you have the surgery. That is the bottom line.

I felt that way immediatly waking up from the surgery, and the first week post op. I did have a psych eval done (mandatory per insurance). Surgeon and the psychologist both said it's normal to feel and think that way afterward. It's like postpartum depression I am told. (Though I never had that with either of my children).

I saw the surgeon today for my 2 week follow up. He released me to go back to the gym, but no weight training. I got my first work out in. It's a far cry from where I use to be, but considering, I think it went well. 30:00 minute bike ride, 3.76 miles, 67 calories. I don't think I eat more than 500 calories a day and I am doing house/yard work so, not to bad.

Um, I'm sorry but that doesn't sound rights their paycheck and success depend on you. To be honest, I've never heard of a medical professional tell someone to seek non professional medical advice. My surgeon gave me a full 12 month diet post op (I'm 6 days out) and it does not include non FDA approved foods filled with preservatives and fillers! Good G** why do you want meat that is not even FDA approved? Can you not make your own tacos, burritos and quesadillas? Remember this is a lifestyle change, not a quick easy way out. Beauty is pain, so no pain no gain!

It does get better, and what you're feeling is normal. I am on day 8 I believe and I still don't feel 100%. I think of it as my entire digestive tract going through a tornado and then getting repaired, it's very unhappy. Some things I found helpful; Chlorophyll - for diarrhea, and gas/bowel smell. Peppermint tea - nausea/vomiting it's a natural intestinal anti-inflammatory, helps significantly. Drink tea over Water, water has a heavy molecular weight, though tea is not water. sugar free popsicles have helped me get fluids in. Don't let the pain meds ware off. Standing and walking relieves the upper gas pains and a good burp is good news! Keep ice on your main manipulation site. Mine still hurts and is horribly bruised. Watch the ingredients of the Protein Shakes. For years I was able to drink Atkins, drank them pre-op, when I got home post-op naturally I was trying those, they made me feel awful. I didn't figure it out for a few days, but now that I switched to lactose and fat free milk with no sugar carnation, I feel significantly better. While I was in the hospi, they had me drink Glucerna, they did the same thing. The gas and bloating is gone. I thought I was going to have twins it felt so awful (not pg obviously) but that was the pressure feeling. So there must be an ingredient that was causing upset. Showers feel nice too. Room temperature drinks are better on the tummy then cold/hot. I spent all last week up until Monday thinking "why did I do this to myself?" I thought I had a kind of post partum depression, but it's going away. You will get better, just take it easy, relax, and pay attention to everything you intake, because it could be upsetting to your new tummy.

I tried two different new foods today. One was refried Beans with some cheese that I added, and the other was artichoke heart. I chose them both since they have higher Protein counts, and can be easily mashed. So far, so good. I even got a smidge of my lemon butter sauce with the artichoke. I got about 2oz of the beans and and 1oz of the artichoke.
