Firëfly reacted to AmyInOrlando in Quitting caffeine before surgery
I've got 3 12 packs of Coke Zero, and an unopened bag of coffee in my pantry... 5 weeks till surgery. My plan was to slowly wean myself off of Caffeine. I just can't get myself to start. Caffeine is my "drug" of choice. They say if you have an addictive personality you'll give up one addiction and find another. My Boyfriend's hoping I develop an addiction for sex. I'm hoping it's exercise. His response was "is there any better form of exercise?". I'm still gonna miss my coffee

I always answer these threads the same.
Either tell people the truth or tell them nothing at all. If you lie, it could come back to you and you may well regret it. If you lie and people realise you are lying (which can happen especially if you lose a lot of weight) then your reputation is negatively affected in the eyes of your managers, peers, and colleagues.
I always recommend that people chose to act with integrity. Either tell the truth or say nothing at all.

I initially only told my immediate family and one person at work. But, as I lost weight, I was not shy about it becasue I didnt care if they judged me, wasn't done for them, it was for me and my family. When anyone asks, I simply tell them because, at this point, I weigh 190 lbs, down from the almost 320 I was, it is obvious something is going on. I actually had a few people apprehensively approach me because they thought I was losing weight because I was sick. I dont' have a problem telling them right from the start that I had surgery. A lot of times they are very interested in what the procedure was becasue most have never heard of it.

From what my surgeon told me I don't think I will ever eat a six inch sub again. From what I understand my stomach will be able to eventually hold a cup of food ( a few months after surgery) but she said it will probably be less.

I had the lapband in 2009. Starting weight was 288, lost 60 pounds then gained almost all back. Got the LapBand revised to the Gastric Sleeve in June 2010. Starting weight was 279 now I'm 195! So to sum it up, I'm 7 months post op and I'm down 84 pounds since then, but down 93 pounds overall. Patience is key...Up your Protein, and strength training/cardio. I feel sexier now, love shopping and feeling/looking young like I should!...Forever blessed! Good luck to you all!

I love that!! It's funny bc normally I think there is a belief that healthier food is more expensive (and honestly, where I live in NYC, that is often true), BUT us sleevers have the advantage of buying significantly less due to the fact that we eat so little at a time. Since we're buying fresh, we can't buy too too much because it will spoil (whatever you cannot freeze, I suppose, if you do). I just came to the same conclusion a few days ago realizing I spent about $40 less on healthy food than junk, partly because I can buy much less (even though I am shopping to feed my husband and daughter, my portion is smaller and that is adding up). Thanks for posting, it is a great feeling!

Don't worry about the liquid intake so much -- everything is normal. I was able to drink more each day after surgery and had the same doubts. When you get to eating more solid foods you will definitely feel the restriction of your sleeve. Just keep getting in your Protein and Water and you'll do just fine.

My doctor told me to take Immodium for that problem. I only had Pepto in my house one night and had to use it post-op. He said he preferred Immodium so you should be okay in taking it. It does get better after you get off of that post-op liquid diet. (((hugs)))

I'm two years out. I can eat more now than I could at one year out, but not much. I top out at 3 oz. of Protein and about half cup of veggies and starch.

I agree with TES that this is more likely for GB patients. After starting with diarrhea, I also suffered with Constipation until I could eat enough to add more veggies, whole grains, and fruit back to my diet.
And one more thing for you guys that are early out: Never trust a fart!

Please don't take offense, but I am curious...why have you been trying to advance your diet? I know some plans seem overly conservative, but I have been too "scared" to go outside my NUT's recommendations

I hate to hear that so many of us are experiencing stalls (including me) but I'm so happy in that I am not alone -- I was so afraid that I was messing something up and was alone in that!
I did not do a pre-op diet and I lost 28 pounds in the week after surgery. Since then I've only lost about 2-3 pounds (depends on the days I've weighed). I know that I'm losing inches though because I can fit in clothes that I could not when I got home from surgery but it's still frustrating to not see those numbers move on the scale.
I'm trying to stay positive by tracking my NSV's -- which I've had a few -- but it's so hard remaining upbeat when I go to weigh every couple of days and I end up yelling "Seriously!" in not a nice way at my scale.< /p>
