DionnaThomp84 got a reaction from kathy0529 in Anyone from Massachusetts?
I'm from Boston, MA. I was sleeved April 29th, 2013. Scott Shikora from Brigham and Woman's did my awesome sleeve. I started at 257lb and I'm now down to 174lbs. I ended up getting pregnant after having my sleeve for a year. I had a good pregnancy and maintained my weight very well. Now I'm working on maintaining my weight.

Dionna - I had Dr. Shikora, too. He was awesome! I was sleeved on January 21st this year. Down just over 50lbs from my 2 week preop diet weight. I have a follow up with him next week.

So far for me, maintaining has been as easy as losing weight was with the sleeve. I've been maintaining for about five months now and find it funny that it's such a delicate balance: two pounds below my ideal weight and my face looks like a skeleton and my boobs completely disappear, two pounds above my ideal weight and I start to feel tight: the way I would feel if I'd had a lot of salty food. Two pounds this way or that: it's ridiculous! But so far it's been easy.
I eat less healthy than I did while losing, but I still eat a little of it. I've added nuts, some carbs, and the only things I don't eat at all (I do occasionally in restaurants or when eating at friends' houses, but I never do at home) are potatoes, Pasta, rice and bread. I eat meat, fish, vegetables, salad, chocolate, nuts, müsli, yoghurt, the occasional cookie and sometimes an ice cream cone. Yes, I can eat a lot more than I could in the months after the operation. I still don't feel hunger, though, so it's not a problem.
Did I mention getting the sleeve was the best decision I ever made? (I think I have in just about every post...)

The rationale behind the pouch test is not necessarily to jump start the weight loss again. It's not about caloric restriction. As you thought, reverting back to a liquid followed by pureed diet helps to tighten up the stomach a bit again, closer to the size it was immediately post-op. When you eat less (or less bulk) your stomach shrinks. When you eat more, it expands. This is what you want to try to mitigate and manage long term. There have been times in this past year when I started eating more than I should at one time or snacking too often or falling victim to the carb monster, so I started doing the pouch test to boost my restriction.
Some people use the 5:2 plan to get back on track, some use the pouch test, some do both or neither. Everyone is different. Whatever plan works for keeping you at goal weight and keeps you accountable in the long run is what you should do.

I just recently had the LGS, April 29,2013 and I actually am a week today post opt and I feel great. I feel that the sleeve was the best option for my self considering I'm trying to choose a better and healthier life style not only for my self but also my 3 children. I've been obese for 5 years and I felt that all my attempts didn't get me where I wanted nor needed. Now here I am happy as can be on my way to where I'm happy with my health. I have hypertension, as well as sleep apnea, and was border line diabetic with high cholesterol. I also was morbid obese, after 3 children it was time for a change. I'm now on my way to a new happier healthier life with my family right beside me!
