HappyCat got a reaction from Brenda0928 in I now understand why divorces happen after WLS
I agree that counseling is the way to go. I wish you all the best and hope you and your hubby can work this out. Deep down, he probably does want you to be healthier and may need a little perspective from an objective third party in how to communicate that to you. You are probably a great cook and he is feeling maybe a kind of "food funeral by proxy" if you know what I mean.

You can do specific core exercises in Water (not swimming, although this is good too). If you get a belt (looks like a weight belt, usually blue, and has a snapping seat belt type closure)-can purchase at Sports Authority or Sports Chalet.
Initiatlly you will want to start without using Water equipment on your legs since your core is weak.
    1) put this belt on, lean back to float on your back.
    2) have your legs extended, closed together, bring your knees to your chest (reverse crunch). Do this 15-20 reps x 3 sets
    3) turn to your right or left (on your side), extend your legs then bring them to your body (butt)- side obliques 15-20 times x 3 sets on each side.
Do this for three months. Then, you can start adding water equipment such as hydrotone boots (www.hydrotone.com) I'm not sure if they are still in business or not.
I have the boots and water dumb bells (not the foam ones...these are yellow slatted plastic in the shape of an octgone.
When you can do this, I can give you advance core exercises. My fiance is a MMA fighter and has awesome exercises, but first things first.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to provide feedback to you.
    Sincerely,
    Jen

HappyCat reacted to jandseakin in Grazing vs 3 meals + a snack per day
That is a lot of food for one meal this early after being sleeved.. I was sleeved June 6.. I eat 3 meals and 2 Snacks a day, and not in between those times. Breakfast is usually 1 egg. snack, a Protein Drink, lunch 1/2 cup of Soup or some cold meat and cheese, Afternoon snack, greek yogurt, and dinner 2 ounces of fish or chicken and a few bites of vegetables. If I can't finish something, I don't finish it later, but throw it away or save it for another meal I dont know if this is right or wrong, but it seems to work for me. I'm afraid grazing between planned meals/snacks, would set a dangerous precedence for me. Good luck to you.

HappyCat reacted to melegge in Buyers remorse anyone?
I am 4 days out and have had two episodes of "what the hell did I do". I worked through them, day dreamed of the future and drank some Water. I know I was mentally and physically prepared for this but still there will always be those moments when I second guess myself and then realize there is no turning back. Then I sit here and read this site and all the success that people have had and are currently having and realize that I will look back at this hard month of my life and it will be worth it.
My biggest struggle is my postop diet. I have liquids for 3 weeks! I am only 4 days in and 3 weeks seems like a eternity. I see some started pureed the second day out. That makes me jealous!! I just want a bite of yogurt or something to chew.
Anyways the time will go fast as it always does. I have struggled with bootcamp, low calorie diets and no weight loss. I can do this!

Buyers remorse when good food is around that I can't eat! I love to Cook and feed others and this does help! I guess I live thru that lol. Best decision I ever made for me. I want to be around for my kids and husband. I want to enjoy life and do all the things I couldn't do before. It's nice to paint my toes and even shave my legs without cutting off my air! I love being able to buy clothes that are cheaper and not 4x! I have self confidence back and even started wearing makeup again. My legs and feet don't swell and I have better balance. I could go on for days. It's life changing and not always easy but what is.........

It all depends on your Dr. and how he/she sets things up......
I was on liquids for 22 weeks before my surgery and never cheated...Then I was on liquids after surgery for 5 days before I ended up in the hospital due to complications with the sleeve......
I did not eat anything for 5 1/2 months in total.......
Think of why you are on liquids...and what it did for your liver and how your sleeve needs to heal first before you can add other types of food to it.....
Sorry...Thought you might feel better knowing that someone else had it far worse then you!!!!!!

HappyCat reacted to Butterthebean in Bad leg cramps - help!
Fiddle...man it sounds like you're having a rough week. From everything I've read, who ever said they aren't sure about the cause of cramps is right. They have no idea. Common knowledge always said it was potassium and salt, but then they tested people with cramps and found no correlation.
For me, I believe fatigue plays a huge role. And it would help explain why they always thought it was potassium. If you've been sweating heavily, chances are you've been working very hard and are also fatigued ...thus cramps. But I've worked in some very hot hot conditions in my life where we sweat so much are clothes were covered in salt by the end of the day....never lead to cramps. But then I'd go out and ride 20 miles on my bike and sweat very little, and cramp that night. As I've gotten in better shape, I've cramped less and less...until I over did it. And that's where you may be at. You train like a madman on few calories. Your body may be telling you that's it's overtrained. Maybe do some research into the symptoms of overtraining. We aren't as young as we used to be, and we've done a hell of alot in the last year. Perhaps your body needs a little time to recuperate.

It's a big deal to be able to isolate our feelings and get to the root of an issue that's bothering us.
Fear is a natural thing and I know that you know that. We've made a tremendous (expensive!) change and it will cause a ripple effect of other changes in our lives. It's a huge thing to deal with and it's only complicated by the fact that we're also afraid we'll be that 1 person that fails miserably at this.
Keep up the good work and keep trying to understand the feelings behind your behaviors. I swear that this is worth the time and effort. We still battle these issues on the vet board - it's not as if these parts of us change just because we removed most of an organ. We still have to talk things out and deal with them. VST is a great place to find people going through the same struggles.
    Good luck!

It helps me to remember how much I weighed this time last year and what NSVs I have had even only 9 weeks after surgery. Then, imagine how I will feel the same time next year! If it gets slow, I just tell myself it's giving my skin time to adapt and hopefully shrink. Also, maybe it will hinder the inevitable hair loss... ? At least, that's what I tell myself~ Chin up!

Lmao! You really know how to tell a story, Hathery~ Next time someone posts a question on how to relieve Constipation I will direct them here
Thanks to Metformin (no longer taking it, thank you very much) I can relate only too well. Only, I was alone in the car going to pick up my husband from work when my bowels attacked. Although I could see a pancake restaurant from 4 lanes over (I-10 W in Houston) traffic was at a standstill. Needles to say, I did not make it in time and had to marinate for more than an hour getting home. I was two hours late picking up my husband... And my booty was raw for a week. Ouch!

Sending a big hug your way! Every one of us has had a pity party or two. It comes when we least expect it. It's hard to look at a few weeks without progress on the scale but I did notice that when I was not losing pounds, I did seem to be losing inches during that time.
Hang in there, the weight might not come off as fast as we would like but it will come off. I would bet you are so much more healthy than you were pre op and will continue to get even healthier!
I will be 18 weeks out tomorrow and 53 pounds gone forever! Not the fastest but it has come off, one stinking pound at a time. It will continue. I know it will. It has no choice as long as I do what I am supposed to.
Keep up the good work, have some sugarfree pudding and watch a Bridget Jones movie! Things will look better in the morning!

HappyCat reacted to trudyjo in Nioxin vs. Bosley?
Hi, I've had fine, thin hair my entire adult life and I've tried just about every option out there including Nioxin and Bosley. The two companies/products are very different. Nioxin is a shampoo/conditioner/hair treatment system that is intended to create the best environment for your hair to grow so that hopefully, you will again have a thick, full head of hair. I used it and it didn't work for me, but that doesn't mean it doesn't work. Several people have tried it and had great success. Bosley offers several programs ranging from Shampoo products similar to Nioxin to laser therapy to hair replacement systems and hair grafting. The shampoos are very, very expensive, much more than something like Nioxin. Laser therapy is the next option and it can work well if you commit to it. Usually you need to go in 2 times a week for the laser treatment. In southern CA those visits are $50 each time and you have to go forever, once you stop, the hair will revert to what it was before you began the service. Third option would be a hair replacement system. This would be for someone with really advanced Hair loss. The hair piece is custom made to match your hair strand density and hair color. It takes appx. 8 weeks to have made. The area where it is going to be placed is shaved and the piece is glued to your head. The look is very realistic but not completely invisible and you need to go in every 6 weeks to have it removed, have your head cleaned and have it reattached. The last option is surgical where they will take a section of hair follicles from the back of your head and surgically implant them where you have hair loss. This is great if you are a candidate and can afford it. Typically, hair grafting runs between $1.50 to $4.00 per graph and most people need a minimum of 1,000 grafts. If your hair loss is temporary from surgery, just remember, it will come back. It is normal to loose hair after any surgery. Add to that, the drastic reduction in calories and your hair is in a though spot. Take Biotin to help with strength, be sure you are keeping your Iron levels up (low iron can cause hair loss), be sure you are getting your Protein in (that is what hair is made from) and wait. It will come back. I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions.

I know it's early, I'm only 4 weeks out, but am getting so bored with my food options. I've tried to do fish, but it gets cold waaaay before I am even close to be done with it. Everything I eat then has been cold - tuna salad, turkey, chicken, etc.
So, to all you vets out there who have been at this for a while, do you get to a point where you can eat a little quicker and actually enjoy a warm meal?
