It's kinda like a competition and registration starts in June for the grant. They only award one grant.

I've looked into the Mexico thing and decided against it due to having to travel there. My main concern are the cost of the fills and aftercare. Some docs have said the cost of fills is more expensive if you don't go to the doc who performed the surgery. Going back and forth to Mexico would be cost prohibitive for me. Also, at least here in Texas, the Department of Health and Human Services, who manage medicaid, say I'm not eligible because I'm a single male and have no children. If I was on disability, then I would have a chance. The thinking is that if you are a single male you should be able to take care of yourself if you're under the age of 65. Still, I'm not giving up. That's why I started a fundraising campaign on www.gofundme.com/saving-Michael

    2Nd Shot At Lapband

Im trying to raise funds through a crowd funding website named gofundme.com. I hope it works because I'm out of ideas.
  5. Has anyone ever used a personal website or one of the crowd funding websites to raise the funds to get the lap band surgery done? I don't have insurance or the money saved to get the surgery due to being underemployed and part time employed. Since I'm male, without children, and under 65, I don't qualify for any government assistance. I've set up a funding website at www.gofundme.com/saving-Michael. If anyone has ever done this, I could really use some tips on how to get more donations.
  6. I joined this forum 4 or 5 years ago, because I wanted to get the lap band. Unfortunately, I never got it because of insurance problems, so I gave up. My health and mobility has deteriorated since then and I really do feel the affects of being morbidly obese. Also, I'm a one of the many of Americans whose incomes has decreased over the past few years and I only work part time and have no insurance. Anyway, I'm back on here with a new plan to raise money to get the procedure. So I'm here to learn and stay motivated about finding a way to get the lap band.
  7. 4 years has passed since you registered at LapBandTalk! Happy 4th Anniversary Michael!

  8. I'm in Texas. I have noticed that there are different policies for different states, which seems weird. Insurance companies are just so complicated. On my job, I do work for insurance companies and workers compensation, and I never understand why they do things the way that they do. I've read info from other sources that have said WLS is excluded by the insurance company unless it's medically necessary. So, I guess that means that it can get approved but you have to prove you need it.
  9. Thanks. I actually do have the choice of getting health insurance on my own. Half of my fellow employees have it on their own. It has to do with the size of a company and the profession. The company I work for is small, under 25 persons.
  10. I'm in the process of getting insurance on my own because the company I work for has crappy insurance. I've spent some time looking on ehealthinsurance.com and so many of the policies under limitations and exclusions, state they don't cover weight loss surgery. I've looked at Aetna PPO and others, and they state they don't cover. What I really need is someone to tell me specifically which insurance company and policy name they have that is covering the surgery. Even if it's has requirements like 6 months of medically supervised weight loss or other requirements, I understand having hoops to jump thru. I'm in Texas. Thanks.:help:

    Mexico Doctor

I'm new to the forum, but have already decided that Mexico is the way for me to go. I'm going to have to self pay, which is still goign to be difficult because my credit sucks, but i'm hoping to get my mother to co-sign a loan for me. Anyway, I found a Dr. Jose Rodriguez located in Acuna, Mexico, that charges $7750. You just have to get to San Antonio and they pick you up there and drive you about 2.5 hours to Acuna, which is just across the border from Del Rio, TX. Since, I live in Houston, getting to San Antonio is easy. My question is has anyone had their procedure done by this doctor?
