Hey SFL, I am having surgery 9/11 too!!!

Im on gabapentin 600 1x day but i used to be on 1200 x3 a day...however i hope you wean off before surgery because apparently gabapentin combined with morphine or other major painkillers can cause serious issues..your not supposed to mix the two...i will be weaning off gabapentin just before surgery and will go back on it after im done with the painkillers

Oh gosh...thats horrible! Well i caved last night and ate sushi:'( It was so good and it was like i had all the energy in the world again..until i felt horrible from the carb crash and had a reaction to msg...oh gawd..never again... so its back to day 1 ...I hope this fixes my triglyceride levels or im going to be talking to my pcp about this!!

Glad to know im not the only crazy one starting pre op...i have a fatty liver so i gotta start now to make sure its shrunk down enough...but the shakes and lean and green meal is killer :/

Hey all...well i am stuck on 3 shakes plus 1 lean/green meal per night from now till september 8th...then its clear liquids...Problem is: its not my surgeon giving me thepre opdiet so early...its my pcp telling me to start now because my triglyceride levels are high...I am 5 days in and my lack of energy/ exhaustion plus mood swings are making it impossible to finish my schoolwork and study for my exams which happens in a month...what do i do????

Im from port hardy bc..waaaay up on the northern tip of the island...i grew up in victoria bc..waaay on the south end of the island... Sounds good! Janese is my co-ordinator. Did you go sightseeing in Tj while you were there? Did you have the energy to?

I would like to know too...i am drinking premier protein shakes and i feel horribble...gassy bloated nausea..yuck!

I wouldnt go cold turkey..especially if your diet consists of caffine or pop..its the hardest one to break away from...i went cold turkey from everything else...but pop was somthing that took a couple of weeks before starting pre op diet...the reason being: i was substituting pop with any other beverage when i craved pop so i had other options..now on my pre op..there is nothing but flavored water

Dont know what pre op type your on...but if you can have a salad...eat some fibrous veggies to bulk yourself up so it doesnt run right through...also...it could be the shakes if your on those .. it can happen..try switching up a shake for 2egg whites and 1 egg yoke to give your body a rest...also....drink lots of watermmvery crucial

Im from Bc Canada and i was told the wait list in Victoria Bc is 5 years and the sleeve isnt an option..its bypass only...i got fed up and went the mexico route...im having surgery in TJ Mexico on september 11th..trust me..its cheaper then private hospital and clinic and its faster then waiting a couple of years...my reasoning: if i have to wait for five years i will be dead or in need of a liver transplant

Whats the deal with being allowed soup??? I thought it had to be a low carb diet to shrink your liver ?

I totally understand how you feel...im stuck on a pre op diet for a whole month and a half...i get protein shakes, 1 green salad with low carb dressing plus sugar free popsicles, sugar free jello and sugar free flavoured water and soup broth...yummy right? Its tough..i barely made it by yesterday...i was starving all day long...today is day 3...point is: i love love love sushi to death...BUT...we gotta do this...we need that surgery to go as good as possible and that means following drs orders even if it sounds contridictory to other drs pre op diets..there is a reason why they put us on one....in my humble opinion..if nothing else..the pre op diet will prepare you for new eating habits after surgery and a new found mental control over cravings..you can do this! Everytime you see a co worker waving food in your face just picture the doctor saying "you cant have surgery cause your liver is too big"....also say to yourself "i am healthier without all that junk"

Hey all, K..so I am in a pickle. I got my flights booked which is good..but when I wanted to get medical/travel insurance, I was told that I would be covered going over to Mexico, but not coming home from Mexico. The reason: Because I am having surgery, according to the insurance people I have a "pre-existing condition" and as such the medical/travel insurance is null and void on the way home from Mexico. So..for you Canadians..how did you go about getting insurance that could cover you on the way home for mexico? Who did you get it through?

Im on liquids till september 9th...then clear fluids for a day...its gonna kill me..im surs of it...hopefully my schoolwork will keep me too busy to visit the kitchen
