    preop alcohol

How much and how often are you guys drinking? I'm 9 weeks out and I'm drinking pretty often, but not a lot each time 1-2 drinks. How did drinking affect your weight loss.
  2. Hi. I just started exercising again, which I live, but i pulled something in my lower left back and the pain is shooting down my left leg. I'm so bummed bc I usually take Advil for this and it really helps but I think I can't take that now (9 wks out). I guess I just have to rest, but other suggestions appreciated. Oh, I also have a deteriorating disc btwn L5 and L6, so that is probably in play here as well.

    6 weeks post op...now what?

These are all great examples. My NUT says I should only be eating 1/4 cup of food at each of my 3 meals (2 Tbsp protein, 2 Tbsp veg/fruit) and 2 protein shakes as snacks btwn meals. That is really small amount of food. Sometimes I eat a couple extra bites if protein. But I do get full pretty quick. I'm 9 weeks out and 40 lbs down.

    Want a little treat?

If you have a vitamix it will grind the ice up so snooty it's like an icee! The kids and I love the flavor ice sf syrups.

    I despise judgemental jerks!

Some People are always gonna judge. They judged me for being fat, they'll judge me when I've lost all my weight with the help of the sleeve. Do I care? Hell no! The only thing I care about is that since being sleeved in early May, I am down 40 lbs and my health is vastly improved. I tell lots of people about my weight loss surgery, and this is why--1) some might need support themselves if they are struggling to lose weight, 2) I find out who my REAL friends are by their responses and attitudes along the way. If they judge me harshly for this, I don't need that kind of negativity--or them--in my life! You go for standing up for yourself and for all of us!!!
  6. My doc said the same thing at my 2 week visit. Was encouraged by that as the right medical attitude. Now almost 8 weeks out and down 40 pounds total since starting 2 week preop diet. I'm totally happy with this pace. I have hit stalls and I'm sure I will again, but right now I'm in a steady 1/2 pound a day loss. The restriction is amazing and when your body is healed the weight will just drop off if you get your Protein and Water in. Great to have such intelligent doctors/staff supporting us! Good luck.
  7. Weight loss has slowed don for me. Lost Another 4 pounds since 5/21. Total loss is 29 pounds including 2 week preop diet. Hoping for some more losses this week. Upped my exercise and water.
  8. I was sleeved May 8th! I am feeling great. Start mushies tomorrow. Lots of energy. Lost 13 pounds preop and 12 since surgery but no loss in past week. Still, living my sleeve. Finally feel in control of my food, not a slave to it! High weight: 275 Surg weight After two week preop diet: 262 Current weight: 250 Enjoying how much time I have now that I'm not obsessing about food all the time. My family is happy, too. Can't wait to lose more and continue this journey. Tell me your story!!!

Yes, you look great and so cute! And about 10 years younger! Congrats on the wedding and the weight loss!

    Building Muscle

Oh, and when did you start weight training again after surgery? I can't wait to get back to lifting/crossfit but I am only 4 weeks out and my doc said 6 weeks.

Wow! I'm impressed. Do you have a before pic?
  12. I feel like I need this much food. I'm hungry enough for it. All healthy choices, lots of Protein, eat about 5-6 x per day. Is this too much? I am not cleared for exercise yet, but my normal exercise routine includes 2 days crossfit, 2 days strength training and 1-2 spin classes. I have lost 25 lbs in past month (including 2 wk preop diet) but haven't lost in about a week. Thoughts? I don't feel like I need to lose super fast, but I want to keep losing!

    Ugh! Weight gain!

Also, our bodies DO make decisions for us. Things that are out of our control at least temporarily. A stall a this point may be totally normal for you. And it may not even be a stall. I'm sick people who try to blame a slight fluctuation in weight or a stall on the person experiencing it. It doesn't sound like you are doing anything wrong except beating yourself up. I do not think going back to liquids is a good idea, either. You need to be able to eat nutrient rich real food. Don't backtrack. Just follow your docs guidance, get your vitamins and fluids and try, try, try to be patient (I need to do this too )

    Ugh! Weight gain!

Did you lose a lot preop? I lost 13 preop, 12 in the first 10 days post op, then stalled for 2 weeks with 1-2 fluctuations. Just broke the stall this morning. Don't worry, just keep doing what ur doing. I know how frustrating it is. The worse is when people keep asking how much more have you lost. I just say, oh it's slowed down a little but I'm still losing.
  15. Wow, what an interesting discussion. Both sides of the issue clear represented here. For me, I believe it is ok to be a little on the higher side. I am very active and was so even before my surgery. I carry fat but I also carry a lot if muscle. When I had my body fat % done 1 year ago at 245 lbs, it was 28%. Not great, but a lot of women at that weight are at 50% body fat. So, I want to maintain my muscle while I lose the weight. I think I can keep my calories around 1000/day now by watching that I do not drink Too close to meals. This has been the hardest rule for me to follow. I do intend to get back into the same level (or more) of exercise very soon. I was at the gym today doing light weight and easy spinning. Another big reason I want to lose is so I can exercise better/more. I was maxing out in crossfit at a place I wasn't happy with because of my weight. Btw, I do love crossfit and if you go to a good place, they will modify and work with you to get your strength/stamina up gradually. But you have to be the kind of person who really likes to push themselves, break sweat, even grunt sometimes while flipping tires and doing other crazy things. it ain't Zumba. (Nothing against Zumba of course, it looks like great fun and exercise but I have 2 left feet so it's not for me!) Thanks to all who responded, especially those who posted medical information and links.
  16. How am I sabotaging my sleeve if I am eating heathy Protein and vegetables, plus my shakes and Vitamins? I do not eat until I am overfill. Maybe I'm counting my calories wrong. Maybe I'm not actually eating that much. I have had Refried Beans a lot because they go down easy. And eggs and low fat string cheese. Plus shakes. I eat 1/4 cup of veg and 1/4 of protein at 3 meals. What vegetables and fruit can you suggest while on mushies that are good for you?
  17. Just curious how many of you actually think 1200 cals a day is too many for a healthy weight loss diet. I just think going too low is asking to screw up your metabolism. A 1200 calorie weight loss diet is totally normal, even low, for an active woman who has not had this surgery. If I am willing to lose a little slower than average, what's the problem? Maybe Ill save myself some skin issues, wont loss my hair, won't feel deprived, etc. Idk, I just have a hard time with the whole 500 calories a day thing. That is a starvation diet. I did this surgery to improve my health. My BP is lower already, I've been losing. But I do appreciate the comments. I'm trying to assess what others are doing and figure out what's best for me. I admit, I do need to slow down and practice the 30-30 rule better. But I still think 800-900 cals is as low as I'm willing to go. Again, thanks to everyone who commented.
  18. What do u eat at 7 months that keeps you at 500 cals?

May sleevers! How much have you lost so far?

Sleeved May 8--total lost 25 lbs. Lost 13 lbs preop and 12 post op so far. Stalled for the past 8-9 days. Hopefully, things will move along again soon.
  20. I'm in the same boat as you-- weight wise. I lost 13 preop, 12 since surg on 5/8, nothing hit past week or so! Don't get discouraged! It's still so early, we will lose the weight. How could we not with how little we are consuming? Lets make a pact to put our scales away, weigh only once a week, and enjoy the NSVs. I'm thrilled to feel more in control of my food intake and have fewer cravings. Don't worry, we got this!!! PS: your profile pic suggests you are a beautiful, positive, happy girl! Be proud of yourself for starting this journey!
  21. I lost 14 pounds on my 2 week preop diet, then 13 more the first week out of surgery. Haven't lost any for the past 5 days; actually bumping up and down 1-2 pounds. I guess this is just a time of readjustment because I lost so much early on. Any tips to get it going again? Trying to get it more Protein. On the positive side, I feel great! And don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled with loss so far. Just funny when the scale stops all of a sudden after losing every day and eating Only 500-600 calories/day.
  22. Sleeved 1 week ago today. Down 13 pounds on 2 week preop diet and another 12 lbs in the past week for total if 25 lbs in 3 weeks!

    Scared $hitless

I was scared and I was sleeved on may 8th and...I feel awesome now! Sure, there is a little post op pain but the meds are good and it doesn't last long. I stopped taking narcotic pain meds after I got he because they were making the gas pain worse. As soon as I stopped those, I had hardly any gas pains at all. Walk a lot--it helps! Drink your fluids, and try to do some normal stuff it will make you feel, well, normal! Best of all I am not having any head hunger or real hunger! I can smell the good food my hubby is cooking, think "yum, that smells good" without craving a bite! I feel so much freedom from the control cravings had over me. Who knows what the future holds, but today I am sooo happy I did this! And I was definitely scared pre-op. Now, I'm just grateful!
  24. I was sleeved May 8th. Stats: High weight: 280 Start of 2 wk preop diet: 275 Surgery day weight: 262 Current weight: 255 First day of summer goal: 30 more pounds down for 225 We will see! Not sure I really have that much control over the number on the scale...but that would be a nice way to start summer--with a number I haven't seen in more than 10 years!
  25. This is the best thing I could have ever done for myself, my kids and my husband. My 8 yo daughter wrote me a poem that said she was proud of me for being a "dare devil" for doing my surgery. Lol, so sweet. Happy Moms Day to all the other brave Sleever moms out there! And even if you are not a mom, you are still brave superstar Sleever in my book. Enjoy this beautiful day!
