  1. Apparently since having my surgery I am invisible. I go ahead and make dinner a little early because my husband has to head to work. I have my dinner after he leaves so I can eat slowly without interruption. Tonight we are having chicken breast (which I'm able to ground up) and my daughter and him have noodles with it. So he is chowing down on his meal and I turn to him and asked him " you made sure to set aside some chicken for me right?" and his response "um no I didn't know you wanted me to" really?? what am I invisible? just because I had a large portion of my stomach removed doesn't mean I don't have a stomach at all. I do need to eat to survive. This is the second time this week he has done this, takes all the food, even after I tell him to take what he wants but to save some so I have something to eat later. Everything goes in one ear and out the other with him. So glad I asked him mid eating if he saved me any. So he proceeded to set aside his half eaten chicken for me.
  2. Omg, how horrible!! Yah i'll have to not be so laid back about dinner time anymore. I'm just use to letting my husband get what he wants and in the past he has always been good about setting food aside for me but since getting the surgery he acts like I no longer need to eat at all.
  3. When it's nice outside I do try and go outside more. I can't wait for the nice weather to return. I am using this (getting a license, getting out more and doing things for my daughter) as a motivation to lose the weight. I need to do this, I can't keep living like this. I have tried several times to talk to my husband about it and his response is always "what do you want me to do? I have to work to pay the bills". LindaFromFlorida, fortunately my daughter doesn't have the same social issues that I have. When I can bring her places (as rare as that might be) she has no problem wedging herself into a group and making friends. She prefers older children (5-8 years old), I guess she must think kids her own age are just not mature enough lol. Although one time she saw a girl her age fall and get hurt and she ran over to her to make sure she was ok and took her by the hand and brought her over to the group of older girls she was playing with. It was so sweet to watch.
  4. I have heard of instagram but I am not familiar with it. I am going to look into it though and see if I can find what you are talking about. Thank you!
  5. This isn't really a recipe but I wasn't sure where else to put this. If you have a sweet tooth for something with chocolate and Peanut Butter then try this: 2 adora chocolate Calcium disks and 1 tbsp. of PB2. Spread the made PB2 over each disk and enjoy! I buy adora calcium for my everyday calcium and vit. D supplement but adding the PB2 is great when I have a craving for peanut butter cups (my favorite chocolate candy). For 2 chocolate disks it's 60 calories and 1 tbsp. of PB2 is 23 calories. For a total of 83 calories.
  6. Each day I am averaging right under 500 calories. I am 13 days post op. So I'm wondering how everyone else is doing and how far out you are from having your surgery? A typical meal for me looks something like this: Breakfast: Protein shake w/ low fat milk. Lunch: 1/2 cup of cottage cheese Dinner: 2 ounces of chicken or fish snack: my chocolate calcium supplement w/ 1 tbsp. of PB2 And I drink plenty of Water during the day. If I don't leave the house I feel perfectly fine. When I have to go out and move more I start to feel sick, like I need to eat something.

    I Lost ******* in 2013

I am just beginning, I am 2 weeks post op and have lost 31 pounds. 18 pounds since surgery. I am hoping to lose a lot more in 2014.
  8. I'm only 2 weeks post op but so far i'll be leaving behind 31 pounds!
  9. Im familiar with the corset. I brought one that fits like a vest, and its actually also made to workout in. It works great, I wear it about 12 hrs out the day and it also trains your waistline. I have to order a smaller size because its not tight as it was because of the weight loss. What is the brand? and where did you find it? I would love something like that, once I lose most of my excess weight.
  10. Which are you more likely to do? Here is the scenario: You are several months out from having had your surgery. You the kids and your spouse decide to go out to eat. At the restaurant your husband orders a menu item you would normally order anyways (something you would probably order right then in there). So do you: A. not order a plate and just have a small bit of your husbands meal or B. order a plate of food anyways even though you know darn well you won't ever come close to finishing it? If you picked A. then exactly how do you explain to the waitress that you aren't eating or that you are all set after not ordering anything? I am the type of person who will let my husband and daughter order their meals and have some of my husband's chicken he is eating instead of blow money on another plate that I don't feel is necessary. Today at subway I was there with my husband and daughter and I was trying to order a foot long sub for my husband and daughter to share (obviously right now I can't even think of eating that) and the woman grabbed 2 foot long breads thinking I was ordering a foot long for each of us. I told her no, only one foot long. She asked me twice if I was sure I didn't want another foot long. Ugh!!!
  11. I'm getting really sick and tired of Protein shakes but I am only 2 weeks post op so I know I'll be on them for a while longer, but I was wondering at what point will I be able to swap out the Protein Shakes for a Protein Bar when I am looking for something quick & easy or on the run to eat?
  12. Sorry Pdx, I posted on the veterans side originally because I figured that they would have the most insight on this topic. Thank you for the suggestions, I'll look into what spanx is and if that might work. I was thinking a corset but I would imagine that it would be very difficult to move around easily in one of those.
  13. Well I am 2 weeks post op and I'm getting in about 50 grams of protein a day.

    Friggin Steri-Strips

Why is it that some surgeons can get away with only making a few incisions while other have to make several incisions on the stomach? Shouldn't it be the same common practice along the board?

    Ursodiol ?

I was prescribed the same thing and I have to take it for 6 months.
  16. They are really good. I'm able to get my chocolate fix for the day and my calcium and vitamin D all in one. Today I am going to try and microwave the chocolate for 5 to 10 seconds and mix in the PB2.

I had staples as well. My surgeon always uses staples for some reason. My incisions healed over well. I only had three incisions, one on each side of my stomach and one inside my belly button.
  18. One day at a time. It took my a very long time to get my THB (take home baby) so I know that feeling. Along that road I had several losses including the loss of a fallopian tube and almost my life. It was a very difficult road to travel down but in the end my daughter was all worth it. The good news is that a lot of times with weight loss the body re-programs it's self and people who were once not able to get pregnant are able to get pregnant. Just the same, try and wait at least 1 year before TTC. I'm assuming you've been to an RE and were told there weren't any underlining problems preventing you from conceiving except your weight? I would bet in one year from now you will be so happy you had the surgery. Keep your chin up and remember, one day at a time.
  19. ---YouTube less of Sarah she started at 460 and is now 230 one year later post VSG Good luck!!! I'm post op day 19 but only have 45-50 to lose to hit my personal goal of 165-170 and stay in that range for life!!!!! I' ve lost 20 since surgery on dec 12 and a total of 43 since I started journey in oct 2013 Wow, she has done amazing! I just found her page on youtube, going to check out some videos now.
  20. If you eat something and have no problems with it does that mean your sleeve is tolerating it well and you can continue to eat that type of food? I am one week post op and on my approved foods list for this week (till week 4) is salmon mashed with your fork. However I only chewed it really well instead of using my fork. I felt great after eating, like I could think clearly and I had some energy. I was only able to get down about 2 ounces.
  21. I understand that but I need to work on one thing at a time and right now I am working on not turning to food for comfort and trying something else that works. This works and my husband hates it when I spend money so now he knows that if he upsets me he is going to lose money so he has been a lot more careful about upsetting me. So it works! Plus, honestly I am not a spender by nature but in the future I do plan to shop (and not on the internet!) but I will be putting limits on myself, giving myself an allowance that works within our budget.
  22. When my husband would upset me I would turn to food for comfort because in the moment it made me feel better. Now? I don't turn to food. I turn on the internet, grab his credit card and shop and I tell him "If you are going to piss me off you are going to lose money because I am using your money to shop with". He doesn't piss me off as much anymore.
  23. So today I was cleared to move on to puree foods and really soft foods like cottage cheese and eggs. I was eating and when I swallow it feels like the food doesn't go all the way down. Like it's stuck in my throat or something. It doesn't hurt but it's annoying. I feel like I have to keep swallowing for it to go down. Is this normal? will it eventually pass?
  24. I'm confused now. I was told that my stomach was taken out on the right side, since that is where I was experiencing a lot of pain early on. Now that pain is starting to resolve and the pain on my left side is really bad. So if they took my stomach out on the left side then why was my right side in so much pain early on?
