  1. I too was taking Glumetza 500mg a day with an A1C 5.5-6.5 prior to surgery. While in the hospital overnight after surgery, they tested my blood sugar...and it registered normal EVERY time. I had not taken any meds that day and I reported the normal readings to my PCP 5 days later. I told him that I had not taken any Glumetza post-op during those 5 days and he took me off of it entirely. He did leave me on meds for high blood pressure, but I think that will be the next med to go.
  2. I had my surgery June 3 and I could have went back to work as early as June 7 as I was off pain meds, very active, and able to drink well. I know that I had one of the easiest recoveries and a sit down job too. I actually took 2 weeks off and worried that I wouldn't be healed enough by the end of that time frame. I know everyone is different and I wouldn't base your recovery on my results. Maybe it's possible for you to start by taking a couple of weeks off....and adjust from there? or go on short term disability if you need more time after the two weeks?
  3. I have a bowflex treadclimber that I bought about 4 yrs ago. LOVE IT!
  4. @ npwoman2003---two steps forward and one step back is still one step in the right direction!
  5. I'm a little over 2 weeks out too and the scale hasn't budged in a while. And when it did, it went UP for 2 days. Mine wasn't due to an ER visit or being pumped full of fluids though. Thankfully I took measurements and I can tell that I'm losing inches...but the scale is another story. Yesterday, I tried to up my fluids and amazingly the scale moved downward! Keep the faith and try to get your fluids and protein in....the setback is temporary and the scales will move downward soon!
  6. Sleeved June 3....I have had only a couple of "blegh" days, but mostly good otherwise. I'm not hungry and have to remind myself to eat--but I have strayed from the post op diet on occasion and tried to push my body into next weeks new food group too early. When I've done that, it has resulted in "dumping syndrome" so the next day I immediately get right back on track for this weeks food and I usually feel much better. If you are transitioning from one food group (clear liquids to full liquids for example) and your body isn't handling it well....it's time to go back to the previous food group (clear liquids). Give your body time to heal and try the new food group again in a few days. Your body is trying to adjust to having had the surgery and some adjust quicker than others.
  7. It may be difficult to get straight Water down at this stage. I was sleeved June 3 also and I've struggled with getting all of my Protein and water in too. You might want to try a different kind of liquid (broth, Jello, popsicles, etc). I find that sugar-free popsicles go down easy...and you can eat a ton of them with minimal calories (and if your diet allows fudgesicles....you are also getting some protein in them!) From what others have posted, you may need to add something to the water to make it slightly acidic so it goes down easier. There's lots of sugar-free flavorings at the grocery store that you can try (I prefer MIO in orange and lemonade.) Finally, if you don't mind a slick feeling for an "after taste", go to GNC or the Vitamin Shoppe (or online for either of these)...and get some Isopure ready made drinks. They are expensive ($4 a bottle), but they contain 40g of protein per 20 oz bottle but they count as water too! PS...As a fellow June 3 sleever--I'm friending you. Keep in touch and let me know how things are progressing!
  8. 15 days post-op and I can barely get my fluids and protein in for the day
  9. Backhanded compliments aren't welcome in my world either! I would not have given him my number in a million years--no matter how cute he was! Good for you for standing up to him
  10. I was talking to a new guy before having been sleeved Jun 3, 2013 and when he asked what I liked to eat, I mentioned a few types of food and followed it by saying that I didn't know what I'd be able to eat soon. His immediate reply was "Lap Band?" to which I said "No" and explained the sleeve. Turns out, he is an LPN that has a Lap Band! He has been very supportive so far and even offering suggestions (when I was having problems with the bariatric Vitamins.) Unlike you, I haven't kept my surgery a secret--I've told all of my close friends and a good portion of my co-workers. I have only encountered a few negative remarks---all of which were pre-op expressing that I should exhaust all other avenues before resorting to surgery. Also, after surgery some of the nay-sayers have joined the bandwagon that cheers me on!
  11. Sleeved Jun 3--I can usually manage 3/4 cup of soup before feeling full. I am finding that liquids are much easier to get in now---I am able to drink rather than sip.
  12. My doc recommends no straw for 6 months post op. Of course on my first venture out of the house, I was served cranberry juice with a straw and totally forgot the "no straw rule" until about 1/2 way thru the drink. I was sipping...but I also started feeling bad / hurting from the extra air. Gasx to the rescue!
  13. I'm concerned with the blood....definately call your doc!
  14. I'm 10 days out...and bloated still. Losing very little weight also. However, I have been measuring inches and have lost some there.
  15. If you haven't already, try some gasx.....I drank from a straw (by mistake) the other night and had a lot of air in my stomach from it...Took a couple of gasx, but I was good as new afterwards.
  16. I can't have eggs yet on my post-op diet, but yogurt and cottage cheese are high in protein too. So, I've been eating them to help with getting my protein in.
  17. Drat...early again! My body has hit the slump in week 2. Still having trouble getting all of my protein and water in...but getting easier w/ the new foods added this week.
  18. I was sleeved on June 3rd...I still have the "glue" too. My doc said not to try to remove it, but let it come off naturally (however many showers it takes). Look at it as a protective barrier that you want to keep as long as you can...but not forever.
  19. I too have an incision there....I just put a bandaid over it and wore my regular bra no problem.
  20. I ride a 2010 Yamaha V-Star 650 Custom, but unfortunately I'm no help to you because I had surgery less than a week ago. I am interested in seeing how this plays out. Thanks for asking the question!
  21. I've been struggling with fluids too...mainly because I was gulping too much and then in pain. Read a wonderful tip on here....try putting it in a toddler's sippy cup...it gives you just the right amount so you can't gulp it down AND it teaches you how much to drink out of a regular cup so you aren't drinking too fast.
  22. I'm having problems getting all of my fluid in as well. I was having pain with everything that I tried to drink (protein shakes included). My doc prescribed Raglan (aka Metoclopramide) which helps things move thru the body easier. Also, I stumbled on to another post a few days ago that recommended that people like me use a toddler's sippy cup. It gives the right amount of fluids w/o much air. I can sip on that easily!
  23. I have to assume that you are taking the pain meds that the doc gave you. You might see if there's something else you can take. I don't think it's normal to be in that kind of pain for this long. I had my surgery June 3 and I'm off the pain meds except when I sleep at night. Everyone is different when it comes to pain meds...maybe you need a stronger one or a different one? In any case, I'd contact my surgeon
  24. My friend had a TT, butt lift, boob job and a couple of rolls of skin/fat removed at the same time. I do not recommend that you go to this extreme as the TT and butt lift made an incision around her entire body. She had trouble getting comfortable any way she tried to lay down. I think the TT and thighs would be ok though.
  25. I was having a similar problem when I drank fluids and shakes. I saw my surgeon for my first post op visit yesterday. I explained the problem and came home with a script for metoclopramide (Raglan) and it seems to help. I was able to get my protein in and 1/2 my water after taking the pill. Call your surgeon (if your post op visit isn't right away) and ask tell them your issue and see if the Raglan would help. Good luck!
