  1. Hello all - My mom has a friend who has had weight loss surgery, she is sadly quite ill as a result. Out of concern my mom came to me trying to understand what procedure hd been done and if it was like the one I had. She described it as a procedure where they wrap the stomach around the esophagus. I told her no it was nothing like my surgery, I had VSG but I would research it and let her know what I could find. well I find nothing that fits that description anywhere. So, I am posting here in hopes it might sound familiar to someone here and I can put a name to the procedure they did. Thanks!
  2. Thanks for the feedback! Maybe it is the one for Gerd it sure sounds like closer to the description then anything I found. It is my understanding that this was done primarily as a weight loss procedure but then again my moms giving me the info second hand and that's never the best way. Now at least I have a reasonable explanation to tell her about what her friend is going through.
  3. Oh that so resonates with me. I went back and forth so many times before surgery I made myself dizzy. I will not lie, as they were starting the IV and doing the prep for my surgery, I think a dozen times at least I had to almost bite my tongue to stop myself from saying ... " You know what I am good and this was fun but, I am just gonna go on home now" I was very very scared, scared of the surgery itself, scared of the changes I knew I would have to make, scared it would not work. For me the only thing that stayed my tongue in the end that I was more scared of staying scared then I was of the surgery if that makes any kind of sense. As I was going through my decision making process, I realized that for me a big part of how I got to where I was, was a thousand little broken promises to myself, I am sure you know the ones I mean, " This week I will start going to the gym or I am going to cut back on my carbs starting today, ect ect ... and then you don't do it and its another broken promise and it all adds up, it did for me anyway. Now though, I keep a big promise to myself and with the tool I have now I am keeping those promises one day at time and it feels pretty good. I am fairly certain it will for you too! Good luck!
  4. Hello Everyone - Started my research into weightloss surgery about a year and half ago and with much hemming and hawling and a ton of backing and forthing and a little bit of yes then no, I had my surgery on April 3rd of 2013. So, I am currently a week out and quite happy with the decision I made. The first few days where pretty bad but every day scince it has been better and better. As of today I feel pretty much back to normal, not bad for major surgery!! I wanted to take a moment to say thank you to all who bravely post their stories on this site. I never said anything on the forums until today and just lurked for quite a while and though I did not actively participate it was without a doubt indispensiable and without being able to read real and honest stories I am not sure I ever would have been able to make the final decision to go ahead with it. So, thank you all and I hope to do the same in some small way now that I am through the other side of the proverbial looking glass.

    ANY APRIL SURGERIES?....

No, but only because the expectation is pretty low for me right now. The Doctor said there is no way I would be able to get it all in right away and to shoot for 40 grams, everyday trying to get closer and closer until the first 2 week follow up. I have been getting to 40 without to much problem for the past few days. This week I am going work on exceeding that amt doing better and better until I have the first follow-up. My Doc seemed way more concerned that I get in enough fluid in the first few weeks then protein so that is where my focus has been. Though I am sure they will up the requirements after that 2 week follow up!
