Back to the basics is just getting back to what the rules were after surgery. Protein first (80oz a day) no drinking with food or 30 mins before or after meals. No snacking, drinking at least 64 oz Of Water and exercising. I know for me the weight came back because I stopped following these rules and started eating a lot of carbs and sugary foods. That's what back to basics means for me [emoji4]

@tfarr, just take baby steps. One small change & in time, as you see progress, the other steps will follow.
I am not in love with exercising but I don't hate it. Sometimes it's just a chore to get up at 5am to work out. I'd much rather hug my pillow. But, I will say, I feel emotionally better (happier) AFTER I exercise. Working out may help with the "down feeling". I believe when we're feeling down, it's so much easier to make bad food choices. So try to get out of that rut.

I have some questions for you women who have already had the sleeve and had kids after the surgery.
My name is Vanessa and I am 36 years old and I have always wanted to have kids but my doctors always said that is was not safe to have kids because of my weight. I was 550 lbs. May 2016 and now I am 456 lbs. May 2017. I am still trying to lose more weight. In September I hope to have my sleeve surgery. I want to have a baby but I am not sure if it is safe to get pregnant right away or a couple of months after surgery or 6 to 12 months after surgery? I would love to hear everybody's opinion and helpful information and comments please!! I really want a baby and I feel like my clock is ticking! I have all these crazy feeling and emotions about wanting a baby or babies!! Am I losing my mind or going crazy?!

I'm with you all! Dealing with regain due to some highs and lows which resulted in a return to poor eating habits- snacking/grazing/ bigger portions/ less quality choices/being passive and not paying any attention to what I eat/ drink. Plus increased wine drinking and less exercise. After a few false starts I began in earnest last week, and have been doing well: no wine & making good food choices... did a hike up to potato chip rock here in SD on Saturday and a shorter easier one today.... I was skimming a size 10/12 at my lowest and I'd like to get back to a comfy size 12 which I feel like I could reasonably maintain... anyway I look forward to supporting everyone and benefiting from the same

Agreed! The support on this thread is exactly what the doctor ordered... it's interesting you mention snacking I was looking at my fitness pal and realizing that a lot of the Snacks I had preprogrammed in I never bothered to eat! I feel like I'm finally back on the right track-- strangely though just yesterday I was ravenous-- I wonder if that is bc I am ovulating and/ or bc of my Tuesday fit-mill work out?? Any way thanks for the info on Proteins, I thought I hadn't been getting enough but I'm landing in the 70-100grams range each day, now if I could figure out if this graph means I'm not eating enough calories or what...I'm really trying not to eat back calories From working out

Maybe you can shift some calories or meals to later in the day....like start with your Protein shake after 9am then shift everything till later... that way your later snacking is actually a scheduled meal

Great work! I like seeing everyone's plans laid out, it's inspiring I'll have to try that clear Protein drink- I'm having trouble getting all the protein in I need.... I got 1 lb off this past week... baby steps, but I will take it! Especially after a quincenera on Saturday and going to see lady antebellum on Sunday.... lots off bad food opportunities there... I did cave and had a beer at the concert and a glass of wine at dinner with the girls.... I knew I shouldn't but I did. All part of life, as long as everyday doesn't get treated as a special occasion I'll be ok... my total down since joining this thread is is 6lbs, so now I'm at 232 . This week I've scheduled a fitmill class on Tuesday/ Thursday/Sunday and spin classes on wed and Friday....my food intake is still hovering about 1600 calories (except last Sunday with the drinks at the concert)... I will say i am feeling better and my mood is generally improved... I hope that getting active this week and eating within my calories will help me get through the stall I expect will happen this week or next...keep you posted

I will even list my bad days. I was out the box with carbs today. I had a half of pancake with sugar free Syrup. The fruit did me in. I just had to have a free day where I ate fruits. I still think I made better choices than I use to make.

Side note: ended up marrying my date, and years later the memory of that simple act floods back to me every time I get into that Prius to go for a ride with my husband

    My take is :
Sometimes we just have to be content with where we are weight wise. If it feels healthy and you can work out, Or climb a steep hill. And you feel good. That may be where you stay. Arguing with 10 lbs is a hellava lot easier than fighting 100 lbs!! I know this personally
    Good luck[emoji122]

I am five years out, and I know your pain. I gained about 15lbs of the weight back and now have started to get back on track with my eating. As previously stated, diet is more important than exercise. I work out on a regular basis but my eating was not on track as it should had been. Portion Control is key and you really have to kick carbs to the side. It goes back to eating to live, not living to eat mentality. It is very hard, and takes a lot willpower. Having a support group might help you, or another sleeve buddy may help. It really does come down to how bad you want to lose the weight you have regained. The first few weeks, you will fight head hunger and it will be a battle to get back to the basics of eating. Once you get your eating on track, start incorporating exercise. After so many years out, you will need to start working out and living a more active lifestyle. I am here if you need it, but a lot of this will really come down to willpower. Keep us posted, and I wish you the best of luck.

Best analogy of what happens when you eat and drink at the same time after bariatric surgery.

I have said this many many times over the past 8.5 years..... that one of the things to watch for are the "friends" that don't want you to succeed because it reflects on their failures.
Your fat friends want you to stay fat so you can be just like them... a member of the Herd.... They will still want you to go out with them but mostly to places to eat... and not good stuff. Every pound you lose is a punch to their self image. They well become jealous of you... they can't help it.
Watch out for the thin friends too..... they don't want you to succeed either... they want you to stay fat. You know there is always at least one skinny girl in the group... She's the one that when you go out... the men talk too.... This is because she is the thin one.... She doesn't want you to be skinny... then she won't get all the attention anymore. So watch for that too.
    Good luck,
    Chris

Sometimes it comes from jealousy but the longer I have been on this path the more I realize most people are straight up clueless about what is actually healthy.
Most restaurants make 12 ounce steaks the norm, but that is 3-4 times the amount of steak you should eat at once. 3-4 ounces of steak is not a barbaric portion, that is a proper portion size. That is what everyone is supposed to eat. That is why is so annoying when people whine about only being able to eat a little bit for the rest of their life. No, you will actually be eating how everyone else is supposed to be eating. We are a society of gluttons and gluttony is encouraged at every turn.
When you eat right around people that eating wrong, fat or skinny they know already they are eating wrong and you eating right it makes them self conscious. The more weight I lose with more results, people look at how I eat, everyone gets pizza, I get a chicken Cesar salad, and eating the toppings off a piece or 2 of pizza, everyone gorging on pizza looks at how I eat. Not because it is so different but because it really isn't terrible, especially to get the results I have. So now people are thinking, wow why can't I do that? How people feel about you losing weight is really complicated and they may not even know why they are in their feelings.
Having your fat friend go healthy is just like having your party buddy get married or give up liquor. Now you lost your partner in crime. Not eating with your fat friends is the same thing.
I was lucky post-op that I lived in a new area, where I did not know anyone. I never had to worry about how anyone felt because I never saw anyone for more than a few hours at a time. If I treated myself the every 2 to 3 months I hung out with someone I knew it didn't matter. My macros were still fine, and my idea of a treat is different than most people.
I suggest people distance themselves from people they enjoyed their old habits with until they really have a good handle on their new lifestyle. Just like any other addict.
