No worries...yes, i had mine in 2007....i was a self pay...insurance didn't even know what it was back then. I also had it done in San Francisco, and my husbands ex-wife is a bariatric nurse so I sorta had an "in" with a surgeon.
When I moved to Vegas 2 yrs later...and even until now I have to explain what it was because people here are...well...to be nice...set in their ways....

I don't mean to question you, but they were doing the sleeve 10 years ago? My SIL had hers in 2010 and she was told she was one of the first patients to have it done, and she was a trial.
    Enlighten me!

I've been doing Monday mornings... it really helps me to keep my weekend activities in check knowing that I weigh in on Monday.
For me at least, weekends are so much less regimented and harder to control in terms of food choice..... so when I put in a really great week of eating within calories (and now, my macros!) goals and if i have an opportunity to really blow all that self discipline over the weekend, knowing I have a weigh in on Monday where I check in with this thread and update my mfp, helps me to make a healthier choice any way I vote for Mondays

I am so thankful for this thread! I have re-gained at least a dozen times in my life 40-60-100 lbs. So I'm determined to not let it happen again. However... dum-dum-dum ... the scale hasn't gone down in two weeks and did go up... only one pound, which I know can be Water or anything, but I ALSO know that I've started to feel comfortable, and when I feel comfortable, I grab a little piece of chocolate at a party or have an extra glass of wine. So I needed encouragement.... and I found this thread. It's crazy how encouraging it's been reading all of your posts! I was ready to break down and have a snack, but just reading what you guys have been posting for the past couple of weeks has motivated me. I need to lose AT LEAST 15 more pounds.... I have to stay serious and not snack and cheat.
I always weigh Saturday, but I like what you guys have said about Monday's keeping you straight over the weekend. So I'm going to start weighing on Mondays as well!

The surgery prevents massive weight gain only if we eat lean, dense Protein and veggies that challenge the sleeve. Otherwise, it's possible to gain 100+ pounds with a sleeve.
I know someone who regained 150+ pounds in a little over a year by going off the rails. Her starting weight was 395 pounds. She lost 140 pounds in her first year with the sleeve before sliding back into old habits by grazing on sliders (read: chips, crackers, popcorn, Cookies, ice cream) during the second year. Her unsupportive husband also griped about the healthier meals she cooked, so she reverted back to preparing unhealthy food.
To keep a long story short, this lady now weighs 400 pounds and wants to get "back on track." Regaining 150 pounds with a sleeve must be a horribly dispiriting experience.
Massive weight gain with a sleeve can happen if a person grazes on sliders all day. Someone can eat 25 cookies (2500 calories) in one sitting and feel no fullness or satiety whatsoever, whereas it is impossible for the sleeve to accept 25 chicken thighs.

You can get back on track but it won't be easy. You are going to have to motivate yourself.
I lost most of my weight the first year but I still lost in the 2nd year and that is even with not being as strict and not having as much to lose. I start out near where you started. I lost around 129 pounds my first year and then another 40 or so over the last 12 months not really trying that hard.
So you can definitely lose, you just have to want to. Your tool is still there, you just have to get back to dense Protein and you can do it.

No, it is not too late for you. After all, you'll be sleeved for life, foverer and ever. It's not as if your banana-shaped sleeve disappears into thin air after one year.
Here's the caveat...you are the only one who can conjure up the intrinsic motivation to get back on track and stay there.
Here's another reality: whatever method you utilize to get back on track will need to be the method you use to stay on track. An obesity physician once spoke wise words: "If you didn't like what you did in order to lose the weight, you won't like what you need to do to maintain the weight loss."
In other words, the habits you adopt while losing weight are some of the same ones you'll need to adhere to if you want to maintain the weight loss for life.

I don't know why but I didn't expect to meet anyone of my culture or religion who was going down this path! Let alone with surgery dates so close to mine!!

As I stated in another post..

I will be starting my pre-op diet on June 20th, so just a week-ish before Eid. I don't want to risk screwing up my surgery *OR* my health. And as@Israh said, as it is for medical reasons, Insha Allah, not fasting for those days would be permissable.

My pre-op diet is very specific and requires me to consume a certain amount of calories, liquid (including Water and Protein shakes), etc thru out the day. I wouldn't be able to do it if I was fasting. Also, I work very tough hours and I can't risk becoming ill because I couldn't consume enough calories or water to keep me going.

So my plan is to complete my liquid diet, hopefully have a successful surgery. And after I heal I will make up the missed fasts, as long as my body allows me to.

We aren't supposed to make our Deen difficult for ourselves. If you still feel conflicted, I would say contact your surgeon and possibly reschedule your surgery a few weeks after Eid.

You have have a problem snacking on chips then I would suggest them. Since I cut out a lot of Carbs, my cravings for chips went away. Just in case it returns (that time of month), I got something good to grab.

    This is really hard.
My grand-daughter told me I was fat...out of the mouth of babes. Went to my son's school concert and had to squeeze myself into the auditorium chairs. Finally made it to Islands of Adventure - Harry Potter's World and asked about the wait time on the ride and the worker told me I should try the seat to make sure "I'm comfortable" before waiting over an hour. I was horrified, walked away and cried in the bathroom so my kids would not see me. Every time I have to buy new clothing, I'm hysterical in the dressing room. I always have to pull myself together before exiting. Seeing myself in photos. Avoiding going places so I don't have to face people. Not traveling to see friends and family because I'm embarrassed for them to see how much weight I have gained. I'm tired of feeling like crap on a daily basis. Especially the back pain when standing for long. I want to hike the national parks out west with my boys without being winded. I want to be healthy and I want to live.

Don't get into the habit of drinking your calories... yes I suggest you go back to morning Protein Shakes, increasing your Water consumption and logging everything you eat into mfp

Hi everyone! Checking in after my weigh in I'm down again! The back to basics is working!! I'm at 230 so 8 lbs are toast going to keep at it
I've been using mfp religiously and having Breakfast everyday, I have bean eating a variety of foods- meats- veggies- fruits- and I'm recognizing head hunger again, instead of mindlessly grazing through the day. Also logging my next days food in mfp the day before has really helped me to stay on track with calories and Protein intake- especially on more hectic travel days... it's also helping me to smooth out intake over the whole day...
I was less successful then I hoped with last weeks workout plan-- I didn't make it to any spin classes- I could drag myself out of bed- well I could have but my determination lapsed in the early morning hours-- I made it to two of my fitmill classes and we also did a 6 mile hike on Saturday.... so I definitely have some improvements to make this week in terms of workouts...I'm committing to going in afternoons to spin unless I get up in the morning... the goal is to go!!! How's everyone else doing with activity?

I'm coming up on my 4 year surgiversary, but I still remember the moment on a date when I looked down at my legs only to realize I was sitting there with them crossed effortlessly AT THE KNEE!!!...in the passenger seat of a Prius!!
Side note: ended up marrying my date, and years later the memory of that simple act floods back to me every time I get into that Prius to go for a ride with my husband

Another thing to remember is bottoming out and rebound to your stable weight. My lowest post op weight was 198. Right now I fluctuate between 215-220. My daily average caloric for the month of May intake was 2000. My highest being 2,700-ish and my lowest being 1,050-ish. Activity and opportunity play a big part in how much I eat.
There have been 25 days this year that I broke the 2500 calorie mark. But on those days I averaged 195 grams of Protein, so they were most likely corresponding with heavy lifting days. Biggest calorie day was just recently, June 2nd. I treated myself to a baked sweet potato loaded with realy butter & brown sugar. That sucker cost me a ****-ton of calories. And I had a glazed salmon with it. The core meal was "healthy", but the sauce and toppings are what get you.
Long post made short, don't let 5lbs worry you too much. That is just a BM away from back to where you were.

    Good morning friends,

So the scale is showing that I have gained from last week but I know I am retaining fluids as it's that time of the month. I have been going to the gym 5 times a week and feel great, my eating this past weekend was decent but I didn't follow my plan to the T. I wish I could have handled my cravings better as I know when I'm about to start my menstruation because I want to eat everything in sight!!! I am really proud of myself and know that there has been a mental shift because typically if I see a gain, I would give up and binge for a few weeks and start back over when I couldn't tolerate myself anymore- a cycle I know all too well. I am going to continue doing what I am doing and know that it will pay off because this time around I aim to make a lifestyle change and not just a temporary fix. We can do it ladies!!! I believe in each and everyone of us, we will succeed!

May God bless you and keep you[emoji173]️

Maybe you can shift some calories or meals to later in the day....like start with your Protein shake after 9am then shift everything till later... that way your later snacking is actually a scheduled meal
