  1. I'm still losing, but my weight bounces up and down as much as 3 or 4 lbs depending on time of day weighed and time of month. I'm down about 72 lbs since May.

May sleevers! How much have you lost so far?

I've lost 69 lbs so far and just came off a 2 month stall. What helped was exercise and making sure I don't graze. It's too easy to snack and take in too many calories. I went on vacation and spent about 8 hours walking one day and 3 hours the next. The next week I dropped 5 lbs. So now I try to get in at least an hour a day of walking or biking as well as doing strength exercises 3 days a week. I hope not to stall like that again.

    Sleeved May 2.....

I was sleeved on 5/23. I did well on the liquid diet, but now that I'm adding soft foods, it is a challenge. Certain foods like eggs go down ok. But almost any type of Protein - chicken, fish is difficult. I chew very well, but do have a feeling of pressure/pain in my stomach/throat as it works its way down. I can only eat about 1/8th of a cup or 2 bites and I'm done. As a result, my calories are normally around 500 - 600/day. I am still using Protein shakes because I wouldn't get anywhere near the right amount of protein without it. You're in my prayers. It is a difficult switch from the old way of eating. Do contact your surgeon about the daily vomiting.

    1st Post-Op Appointment

I also had my first post op appointment today and I'm 270 as well :-) I'm amazed at how little I can eat. I got the go ahead for soft foods and tried refried beans at lunch and tuna at dinner. In both cases I had about 4 bites and it was too much. It was painful after. I guess it will take a while to figure out my capacity. During the liquid phase I was able to eat more yogurt, but I guess solids are more 'solid'. It will definately take some trial and error.

    1st day with the sleeve!

Glad it went well. The laps will definitely help with the pain. Congratulations and hope it goes smoothly.

    Too big!

Some of the thrift stores and consignment shops carry scrubs. I'm planning to do all my shopping for the next year there because I'll probably run through the sizes pretty quickly (hopefully) Once I get close to goal I'll invest more in clothes.

    3 months out!

    Great pictures, way to go!
  8. I've only lost about 30 lbs so far, but I'm assuming it will all be saggy when I get to goal. I'm 54 and have been around 270-300 for the last 20 years. I'll at least have a 'skirt' and 'wings'. Starting to save now for an arm and belly tuck. If I can't save it up, at least there's spanx :-) I know the health is more important than the looks, but I would like the looks to be the best possible.

Is it normal to menstrual Bleed after surgery

When I had hernia surgery this happened to me. The nurses said that surgery's a traumatic event for your body and sometimes it throws off your menstrual cycle.

    When will it get better

I'm looking forward to soft foods. Still in the liquid phase and pureed Soup. I agree the exercise is a challenge, I get dizzy when I'm standing for very long so I haven't been walking as much as I expected, probably only about 20 minutes a day. I'm supposed to go back to work next week, so I need to get my strength up for that. Luckily I'm at a desk so no lifting involved. So far no regret, but I'm fighting against impatience. I keep telling myself - this is the rest of my life. Weight loss will eventually come. I'll eventually be able to eat more enjoyable foods. I just need to work on my slimming perspective, replacing food desire with other activities and things I enjoy. I have hope for the first time in a long time.

May sleevers! How much have you lost so far?

I was sleeved on May 23rd and have lost 21 lbs in the last 10 days. I'm still dropping a pound or more a day and consider myself lucky. Eventually I'll be happy with 10 lbs a month. Hoping it will stay steady. I took off about 15 lbs before surgery, but gained 3 lbs in the hospital with all the hydration. I'm able to get all my liquids and Protein shakes in. Can't wait until I can have pureed food. Getting pretty tired of shakes and blended Soups.
  12. Has anyone noticed that their sense of smell is crazy sensitive since being sleeved? I was sleeved last Thursday and all of a sudden I can smell lots of things that no one around me can. Some bother me and some don't, but I've never been this sensitive before. I'm wondering if it's related to the surgery and to being on such a limited diet.

    Cream soup... help?

I started on full liquids while still in the hospital, but started out on protein shakes. I've also had yogurt, sugar free pudding and pureed chicken noodle soup. Perhaps the cream soup is too rich or you're sensitive to the milk. Switch it up and see if that works.
  14. 45 lbs in 3 months is awesome. I'll be happy with 10 lbs a month myself. At the hospital I was visited by a chaplain that had had a gastric bypass years ago and said not to be discouraged if I don't lose down to my goal in a year or 18 months. She had 250 lbs to lose and just kept at it and got down to goal in 4 years. She said that if you're determined it will come off. Just keep focused on the goal. This isn't necessarily a speed diet. It will take time to learn a new lifestyle to maintain the weight loss. We have the rest of our lives.

items for the hospital & home

I brought some hard soled slippers to walk after surgery. And of course my phone. Once I could shower I was thankful for some shampoo from home (favorite scent). Although the hospital does provide everything down to a toothbrush.
  16. It does get better each day. I was sleeved on the 23rd. shakes and yogurt are the most filling. In the hospital they gave me sugar free pudding, but since it doesn't have much Protein I haven't repeated it. I'm on full liquids for another week, but my surgeon allows pureed soups, so I tried pureed chicken noodle today and it was great. I get tired of the sweetness of shakes. Today was the first day got up to 8 glasses of Water. Yay. I'm using True Lemon crystals to make it more palatable. Because of the shakes I'm not having trouble getting my protein. I have one in the morning and one in the evening and they total between 30 and 44 g each, depending on the powder I use. Hang in there. It does get better each day.
  17. I'm allowed to have the gummies, but my surgeon told me no vitamins until after my follow-up appointment 10 days after surgery. i can resume them then provided everythings going ok.
  18. I lost 10 lbs in the last 2 days, but I'm sure it's just my body getting used to the lack of IV hydration. I've just been out of the hospital since Saturday. Trying to weigh just once a week might help the up and down weight not drive me crazy. I just have to know that over the next 18 months or so I will lose weight. In the hospital someone came by that hadn't lost all of her weight in 18 months. But she kept at it and after 4 years she was at goal. It was an inspiration to see that not losing all my weight in a year isn't a fail. Consistency and Persistance will win the day :-).
  19. I'm 4 days out and protein hasn't been a problem, I just drink 2 shakes with 37g each. But the water is a challenge. I'm up to 5 cups today, but the goal is 8 cups. I've started putting True Lemon in the water and that makes it a bit easier, but it seems I get distracted and forget to sip for a half hour at a time.

    Blood clots

My surgeon hadn't mentioned this. I do walk fairly often, but didn't have any specifics. I'm 4 days out and will try this tomorrow.
  21. I'm scheduled for surgery this Thursday 8am. Tomorrow's my last day of work for 3 weeks. I'm getting a little nervous, but I'm excited too. I've been on liquids/soups for the last two weeks and I'm ready to move forward. Who else is getting sleeved on Thursday?
  22. My surgeon said 3 weeks if it's laparoscopic, but he also said that the incisions had to be completely closed. I think you're right to be cautious.
  23. Congratulations. I appreciate your posting your experience. I'm 2 days out, just got out of the hospital. I was worried about how I can't drink the whole 64 oz, but it sounds like that's something to work up to. I can relate to the detatched feeling about food commercials and others eating. I just think "I used to have that, but don't miss it". Part of that might be how recent the surgery was, but I hope to keep that detachment as I lose my excess weight. Best wishes on your journey :-)

    Sea weed article

Interesting. I do love the toasted sesame seaweed as a snack. And I've had the seaweed salad at the local sushi restaurant. My mom always used to promote kelp and seaweed for their iodine content.
  25. I'm two days out and just got out of the hospital. I'm feeling pretty good. It's a challenge to get the Water and Protein shake in, but I'm just sipping as often as I can. Luckily they were able to do the surgery laparascopically, so I'm not as sore as I would have been with an open incision. I'm looking forward to actually sleeping tonight instead of being woken up every hour or so at the hospital. I did put on a couple pounds - others have said it's due to the constant IV hydration in the hospital. I have been spending some time walking, it helps with the gas and aches and pains. Did 33 laps around the hospital floor yesterday. Today I'm just walking around the block. My house is small so if I want to walk it must be outside. I was really lucky that I didn't have nausea after surgery. I'm just trying to learn how much I should have with my sleeve. So far I just take a sip or 2 then wait 10 or 15 minutes and do it again. Best of luck to you for your May 31st surgery!
