  1. My mom had a very old version of a gastric plication type surgery and the old metal band and had a lot of complications. My dad was very weary of me having surgery because of this. He was always supportive but hesitant to really get involved. Since surgery he's been very open to it. He sees I don't have her complications, I don't constantly vomit and I can eat real food etc...

    It's common. If you had internal bleeding it wouldn't be coming out that route you would have black, tar like stools or vomiting dark "coffee ground" like stuff. You would also have other signs like dizziness, light headed, heart racing etc... Your body is just out of whack because of surgery and weight loss, you'll be fine. It will eventually even out.

    Bend over... I am getting the belt Look at you.... over 50lbs down with some to go! Great Job! Here is my honest opinion on this, you came on and asked everyone to be frank and possibly a little harsh. It is easy to say "why did you have this surgery to just go back to your old habits" "Why even ask are you looking for permission?" I am not going to say that... I am going to say this, you are human it is insane, crazy, outrageous and ridiculous to think that you are going to be spot on 100% of the time. If you restrict too much than you are going to be unhappy and potentially mess up even worse in the end. I honestly believe that when you are on this trip that you need to not "forget" you had WLS but I think you need to allow yourself to partake in the foods you are wanting, but in a controlled manner. I honestly believe you should make a plan and stick to it, stay on plan for Breakfast and lunch but have a cheat with dinner, maybe you have dessert one night. Maybe one day it is breakfast that you "cheat" on and you stay on track for lunch and dinner. The last thing you want is to be sick on your trip and you don't want to come home and have to lose that weight you worked so hard for already. I hope you have a phenomenal trip! and I wish you all the luck in the world!

    Nothing should ever make you this frustrated and unhappy. It is such a difficult process and yes some glide through with a few bumps, some are practically handed it on a silver tray and others, like you, fight and fight and fight and it is just not good enough. If it is meant to be it will happen, when it is supposed to happen. I wish this could have happened to me years ago but I know, for a fact, I was not in my right mind to handle it. Last summer I was prepared to pay out of pocket to get lapband, you know what I did instead? I went to Hawaii for 10 days I had an amazing trip and came back at my heaviest weight ever. It was worth every penny and every pound, that trip renewed me, it has paved a road so beautiful and in turn.... it led me here. I am over the moon right now, but it took so much to get to this spot. I wish you nothing but the best! I absolutely look forward to your post saying it is time, I wish it was easier, I really really do....

    Hungry

    I eat 5 mini meals a day, every 2-3 hours hours. I don't allow myself to become too hungry because if I become too hungry I over eat and will get sick and I am happy to say it hasn't happened yet and I don't want it to happen.

    Day 3 post op

    Did they give you Zofran to take at home? I used it every 4 hours the first week post op and slowed down to once a day for the 2nd week. If you were sleeved local I would call your surgeon and ask for something for sure. I was never nauseated and I think it helped immensely with my recovery.

    Surgery while in school

    Yes! I am a senior in nursing school, luckily I only have one class a week, but that class is a very very long day. I go from 8am-6pm with a 1 hour lunch. I was very open with my professors they were very open to me having the surgery. I missed one week and was back in class on day 10 post op, it was a long day and I was very tired by the end of the day but I did it and I feel great now!

    Baked Flounder or Tilapia

    I do a marinade for my fish tacos that I use on tilapia which is very easy. It is just lime juice, garlic, cumin and dill. I do it by sight but it is around 1/2C of lime juice, and 1-2 tsp of each of the seasonings. I marinate it for just a few minutes, the lime will start poaching it essentially, so I leave it 5 minutes max and it could be baked or cooked in a lightly greased pan. Good stuff.

  12. I lost 10, I had a very easy pre op diet and was allowed a variety of actual food. I felt good about it, and my surgeon was thrilled. I am sure if I really wanted to I could have lost more but 10# in 10 days... I will take it!
  13. If I had to pick one thing that I would suggest to anyone getting this surgery to have on hand post op it would be a heating pad. I am 4 weeks out, yesterday. I have had my heating pad plugged in next to my bed for 4 weeks. The first few weeks I used it on the low setting on my stomach. It really really helped, than I used it when I overdid it and my abdominal muscles hurt and last night was my first night back at the gym (released yesterday) and I am using it on my sore sore muscles. It has been a life saver.

    Why i want this surgery

    I am a dance mom and the other dance moms have been trying to get me to take adult hip hop with them and I won't do it. I'm hoping after the first of the year to do it. My list includes: Roller coasters Shopping out of the plus size Cute shoes Running a mile Dancing There is more but it's early.

    Oh and I'm 4 weeks post op, by 7 days post op I was getting 65oz a day by 10 days 110oz a day. Once I added food it slowed down a bit and week 2 I averaged 65oz and I'm around 80-90 now. 125oz was my avg pre op.

    I only sipped for around 5 days. Than I was up to 8oz an hour and I can easily take 16oz an hour if I want to now. Everyone is different but I truly believe persistence pays off. I was bound and determined I was not getting dehydrated and I had to be released back to school by day 10 so I worked my butt off to get there. I carried my hospital cup at all times and a back up if necessary. I would say by 9am I will drink 4 oz and by 11 I will be here etc...

    Fluid drinking after surgery.

    Guarantee it has to do with after. You don't want that water rushing your food through you want it to have a chance to process and sustain you longer. My NUT doesn't want me drinking for 15-30 before, but admits a sip will be fine if necessary but to make sure I do not drink for the hour after.
  18. I lost 12# in the first 6 days and than went to a slow slow crawl and now at 4 weeks I am at 18# down, but things have picked back up so I am not too concerned.
  19. Do you count calories and Protein? Protein and carbs? All 3? I know that you need to follow what your NUT/surgeon says, but I'm curious what people have found that works for them. I sometimes feel overwhelmed counting everything, my nutritionist didn't really give me guidelines. My sample menu says 900 calories 60g of protein. My goal is always over 60g of protein and I avg closer to 70-80.

  21. Yeah. It's hard for me to really know at the moment. I'm 4 weeks today so things have been slow. I do try to follow the 900 calories and I'm usually within 100-150 of that. I sometimes feel hungry but avoid food because I'm close to the top of my calorie count. I'm really good with getting in my fluids, I go for a minimum of 16oz between each meal and after my last meal so anywhere from 70-100oz a day. Some of it is in my head sometimes people are a tad hypercritical, I've never struggled with food and my first day on fork soft I took 900cal and 89g of protein and I kinda got scolded for "sliders" etc... Except I had none. It makes me feel like I'm doing something wrong. Especially when I see someone who is as far out as me taking 500-600. I'm venting, sorry. I'm my own self, I'm no one else, I'm following my rules, my surgeons/NUT rules, no one else's. I take no more than I'm supposed to and I'm not perfect. I've lost 18# in 4 weeks and 28# in 5 weeks 3 days. I've never "stalled" just slowed. I'm giving myself a pep talk now. Thanks for your responses.
  22. I don't get a feeling but I know how much I can handle. I never eat over 2.5oz of Protein and 1/4C of veggies in one sitting. I have only twice felt too full and it was very early on (week 2?) if I found I was getting hungry early (I drink at least 16oz of Water between meals and wait a minimum of 2 hours and up to 3 between meals) anyway my first thought would be what did I eat? Was it a slider? Am I thirsty? If I was really good I would add .5oz of protein to my next meal. I started with 2 oz. I rarely make it thru all my veggies. If I find myself mindlessly eating I stop. I should say I don't get the runny nose hiccups etc... I do feel full eventually
  23. 20# for 4 weeks.... Which is today! Yay. I have been very careful but this past week I have not been as careful.
