  1. I'm imagining ham salad the same consistency of chicken or tuna salad - not sure i'd want it any other way.
  2. I started out wanting to tell no one - I learned who the bigmouths were in my life very quickly! Fortunately, everyone that has found out has been really supportive.
  3. I was on soft foods at 3 weeks, OP might be as well.
  4. That really is a reflection on who he is and not at all who you are. You're worked hard to get to where you are now - we here understand it, we've been through it, and we get it. He's an outsider, he may never get it but that's not your problem. You keep doing what you're doing - sooner than you realize they'll be asking for a date instead of how pregnant you are.
  5. Remember that scene from Aliens where the creature pops out of... Just kidding - I had egg salad/chicken salad at 3 weeks out, but I'm just some yahoo on the internet. Ask your doctor for the final word.
  6. I have an android app called "Tom's Multi timer" > I created two timers, one for 2.5 hours and another for 30 minutes. after I eat, i set the two off at the same time When the 30 minute one goes off, I know i can drink Water. when the other one goes off, I know it's time to either eat or have a Protein shake. I eat then repeat.
  7. i woke from surgery with no pain but what felt like a persistent gas cramp. They saw i was uncomfortable and offered me pain meds. I took them and they helped immensely. I felt the most discomfort in the recovery room. I was cracking jokes as they wheeled me to my room. in a few days that pain turned into what felt like the soreness of having done too many situps the day before. i was given liquid hydrocodone to take home and that helped too. i started out only being able to drink half an ounce of Water every 15 minutes but was quickly drinking 1 ounce and more in a few days. Edit: forgot to mention, I had NO issues with my incisions and no pain from them. I did have one of those medicine balls (i forget the name) YMMV but the root canal I had years earlier was a worse experience.
  8. I lost 50lbs preop by walking. You don't have to sign up at a gym to walk but it makes it convenient (takes away the "too hot", "too rainy", too anything excuses). What you need to be mindful of is that heartrate. If you're out there just strolling that isn't going to get your heartrate up enough. You don't have to run or even jog.
  9. Great job on the water and protein! Yep iron would be my next guess. Noticed you're in Dallas. Lots of great support groups in our area, I highly recommend if you aren't involved already.
  10. The bad news - you got about 3 more days of this to go. The good news - on the 5th day you will wake up and be amazed at how good you feel with how little you're taking in. The best news - many people are allowed to eat anything they want until the day of surgery. They get to deal with recovery AND what you're dealing with right now. You won't have to and it'll be behind you. Read this link: http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/78443-the-pre-op-diet-is-not-a-punishment-its-an-opportunity/
  11. How much Protein are you getting in daily?
  12. Actually mine did as well, but not $1000.00. I had to pay $300 for a pre-surgery class and about $150 for the two bags of Bariatric Advantage Meal Replacement shakes (for the two-week preop diet). I paid a $25 fee for FMLA paperwork handling and I think I've paid a bill or two that they've sent me.
  13. Congrats to you! Don't be shy to ask for pain meds for the gas, they helped me get walking fairly soon after surgery!
  14. I had something similar happen on my end. I was all set to make a scene if I showed up to the hospital only to find out I wasn't approved but miraculously the surgeons office got my approval within an hour of me complaining to them about it. Hang in there!
  15. Thank you for posting this Laura-ven!
  16. BTTT means "Bump to the top" - I posted it so that Amy's thread would get pushed to the top of the Recent Topics list.
  17. Personally I like the clip-on style earpads - I get a fuller sound than with earbuds and they stay on just fine. Mine are similar to this and cost about the same: http://www.amazon.com/Sony-MDR-Q68LW-Clip--Headphone-Retractable/dp/B000PCF7A6/ref=sr_1_43?ie=UTF8&qid=1373330076&sr=8-43&keywords=sony+ear+pads
  18. Will be sleeved 6 weeks tomorrow. No plans to have bread or rice (or pasta) anytime in the near future.
  19. Bumping Molly's thread for visibility (because she sure in the heck doesn't want hair advice from me! )
  20. Everyone hits stalls at different times after surgery and in different frequencies. Do what your surgeon told you to do and be patient. I get hungry too, but it's different than before surgery. And let me tell you the times I thought I could eat more than I should have been painful and memorable! Hang in there!
  21. My surgeon took me off my GERD meds immediately after surgery. I was taking them again within days because of frequent heartburn (which I rarely had prior to surgery). No reflux issues after surgery, but rarely had an issue with it before surgery.
  22. They were more concerned with me driving under the influence of the liquid hydrocodone than they were with how many days after surgery. I drove myself to my 1 week follow-up appointment with no issues.
