  1. I have 1 breakfast burrito frequently. I have tried a cheeseburger but it didn't make me feel good so I look for other food. Actually a 5 guys burger is good . I split it with my wife and eat about 60% of my half plus about 5 fries. I have maintained my weight well and eat much healthier now with my sleeve. If I have a challange after 4 years it's getting enough water in.

    Sleeve and sushi?

Almost 3 months out now. I eat sushi, sashimi about 2x a month with no problems. I first ate it at 6 months to let the stomach acid get back to normal as that kills any parasites in the uncooked fish at my nutritionists request.

    Guy's any regrets?

Glad to hear you're feeling great. Don't worry about what you feel like about eating out and nothing looking appetizing. You're 5 week out for cryin out loud. You're new small tummy is just in it's infancy. When you're out 9 months or so You'll find you can each much more in terms of variety and mildly more than you can now in terms of amount. food will taste good again. What you feel like at 5 weeks is NOT what you're going to feel like when you're all healed up inside. What you feel like at 5 weeks is NOT the way it's going to be the rest of your life, it's just part of the journey you're on. Do what your medical team tells you to do and when you get more healed up every thing will be easier and better. Good luck on your journey.

    Social situations?

Hmmm, I am 18 months post op and have no problems whatsoever eating out. I don't eat the same things I used to and certainly not as much. I don't seem to have any issues with any specific foods but I crave mea, chicken and fish. I can eat bread , deserts but I genally don't because I'm full.

    Carb / Protein / Fat % guidelines

My doc and nutritionist gave me a 75 gram Protein goal for the first 6 weeks then 85 grams after that. They didn't want me worried about grams of fat and carbs but did want me to get enough veggies. Since your doc has not given you a carb/fat gram what makes you think you should have one?

    Scary Skinny

I know the feeling. I see people all the time who comment about how much I've lost. At about a year post op I got a lot of , "You're wasting away to nothing",or, "are you still losing weight, are you ok?". I have been eating more since my 1 year check up and working out more now that I have the energy and last month a friend asked if I was taking steroids . I said no, just steak and veggies.

    Sleeve Vet Diets

Before I say what I ate today I will say first that what I can eat at 16 months post op is nothing like what I was able to eat when I was at your present stage of recovery/progress. I am on vacation on the outer banks of NC. I have 20 oz water while I move about in the am waking up. I make coffee and have 16-20 oz depending on the cup I've got with me. I generally do a little light exercise like stretching or walking and then have 2 scrambled eggs, whole eggs with cheese and half and half with 1 slice of toast. I then don't eat for 3-4 hours when I have a greek yogurt and a protein or granola bar. 2-3 hours later I have a lunch meat sandwich that I might or might not finish. I then don't eat till dinner which is usually fish, chicken or steak in some fashion with non starchy veggies. Sometimes for desert I have fruit but if I've been a good exerciser I might have 2-3 fig newtons with milk. Now I know there are some people on this site that will assail what I eat but my nutritionist and doc love my numbers and my weight loss. I have plateaued higher than I want to however I've also added 10 lbs of muscle in the last 8 months and feel fantastic. I weigh every 2-3 days and never allow more than a 2 lb gain and am still losing about a pound every month or so. At your stage I was eating very , very little and it was ok. I couldn't eat much then or it hurt. I now only hurt if I'm not paying attention. Cake and cookies I never seem to overeat, but veggies? they just taste great and it's taken the last 3 months to figure out that I still need to portion out an amount of them and go very slowly while eating so I don't feel full. All in all it's a good thing. I never used to eat this much protein or veggies but I do now. Hope it helps.

    Bariatricpal scared me shitless

Do you trust your doctor that his/her team? I doesn't sound like it. Is your doc at a "center of excellence"? That is a designation they give docs who has met certain criterion and who have excellent outcomes and low rates of complication. If you're doc is not a a center of excellence then you might find a center with that designation near you and get another opinion, see I I makes you feel better about the whole thing. I had my surgery about 17 months ago now and it was a great decision. But did I have second thoughts? Doubts? Sure I did, even for about 10 days after the surgery. Then it started to feel better. I went back to work in time and now I am still slowly losing and can eat most anything , drink most anything but with great moderation and never do I feel like stuffing myself, I just don't. I feel very, very happy to have lost what I have , and that I don't ever feel like I'm going to be heavy again. The habits your sleeve makes you adopt will help you immensely. Best wishes whatever you decide.
  10. Congrats! I know my wife is happier with some wrinkly skin on my torso than tight skin over a beach ball. There's more to attraction that just skin tightness and size matters!!! Smaller saggier boobs on a healthier (and happier) you is probably far more appealing than jumbo boobs that come with a jumbo tummy and thighs. Glad you're enjoying the benefits of your hard work, courage and dedication to get to where you are today.
  11. I can't tell you anything exactly about your condition as there as too many possibilities. I will say that I had not even tried coffee till 9 months or more and that was because diet cokes just took too long to drink due to the carbonation. I have no problems drinking a 20 oz cup of coffee with half and half in it , but it takes me 30 min to do so. I can drink Water , unsweet tea or g2 Gatorade faster but not like I used to. With you having pain you should stop drinking it for now. My advice would be for you to follow up with your doc and / or nutritionist. If that is not possible then stop and try it in 3 months. It's probably just that your new tummy doesn't like the coffee and it might get over that in time but there is the possibility that you've got something going on. Do you have this feeling with any other foods or drinks? How do you feel overall? How often and how much are you eating? The answers to those questions might help your doc figure out what's going on. I know there are a few people who just can't tolerate certain foods or drinks irregardless of how long they are out from surgery.

Bypass or Sleeve. Times running out

I chose sleeve and have done great. My buddy choose gastric and my dad had gastric (his was 20 years ago) and both are great. They eat what they want, I eat what I want. You will need Vitamins for the rest of your life in either case. Stats don't lie, gastric seems to give slightly higher loss of weight. My doc said both were good. There are pros and cons to both. Acid reflux and other problems in a persons hx might make you favor 1 procedure over the other but both work. I would think you have the choice of two things, both of which work. Talk it over with your doc then pic. You can't go wrong. Please don't choose base on what was right for others. Their medical situation might be very different than yours. Talk to your doc, that's my advice.

No Morning Cup of Coffee? For Real?

My doc allowed coffee after 6 weeks. I was not a big coffee drinker but liked diet coke. I have had both starting about 4 months but I found I like coffee now. It doesn't bother me at all. The first few months you'll do fine till your tummy heals and the inflammation goes down, hang in there.

How often do you step on the scale?

2 x a week for about 6 months, then once a week since then and occasionally I go 2 weeks if I forget.

3.5 months out & first bikini shot

    good job! Keep it up!
  17. At 6 months my loss slowed, at 9 months it stalled, then started at a slow pace. I am nearing my goal and am seeing that in a month if I don't lose I have looser clothes are more muscle. My recent yearly check in with the nutritionist showed I am gaining Water and muscle weight (both very good things they tell me).

    Does life return to normal?

I couldn't agree more with WhoDat. You are in the very early stages. It might not feel like that but with time you'll gain more perspective. What you're experiencing now is not normal for 1, 2 years post op but it's normal for that early stage. I too questioned the wisdom of my surgery for about 2 months but then that faded. I can eat anything I want but have learned that since I can't eat much at one time I eat something good, both nutritionally and taste wise. I had eggs for Breakfast, 1/2 of a roast beef sandwich for lunch, sushi and a salad for dinner. I tell you this so you'll know, it's going to get better, lots better just keep doing what you're medical team tells you to and you'll be thin and happy in no time.
  19. I have mcd's once frequently for a Breakfast burrito. I have 1, 300 calories and that's it for 4 hours. I have had their chicken wrap once in awhile I have had maybe 2 double cheeseburgers over the past 8 months. I can eat maybe 80%, but usually less. I have no room for anything else and I don't eat till I am uncomfortable. I had a plateau but it's starting to move again. I am about 15 lbs above my goal. In the past 6 months I have lost 11 lbs but interestingly my body lost 14 lbs of fat , gained 1 lb of muscle and 2 lbs of Water. My nutritionist likes that I get 100 gm of Protein in my diet. Without Protein shakes , which I came to detest after the pre op and immediate post op period, I need to eat fish, meat, chicken, eggs and greek yogurt. So, long story longer, I do eat mcd's but not much and not often and it's not been a problem. I don't get cravings for it at all, it's just food.

    Missteps starting to add up

I hope you're starting to feel better but if not don't worry. In time you'll get better. I used my cpap in the hospital the night of the surgery. I did have to stop it for about a week because my hiatal hernia repair didn't like me to take a deep breath in for a few days but that passed and I have used it ever since. I have lost enough that I think I can go without out it but am waiting till I hit my goal weight to have a sleep study to see if I still need it. I did have the pumping booties in the hospital but not at home. If you've been moving your ankles and doing some walking you should be fine. I was pretty miserable the first 2 weeks and then not too happy for another month but over time the pain all fades and you're losing weight and finding you can eat more variety but not too much of course. Hang in there, it gets better.

No regrets. It's interesting, challenging and it really works. You'll do great just hang in there when you're feeling low, it will get better. Good luck.

    Post Op Penis Size

If they ever need to advertise for patients they could just talk about the differences that show up rather quickly regarding how this surgery turns the clock back on how well your willy works. And, better yet, it just keeps getting better. I don't know that it actually gets bigger, but it does go from say in woodworking terms from an "Immature sapling" to "rock maple".

    Its finally here!

Good Luck! You'll do great. The forum is great but listen to the medical team you're using to educate you in your prep and recovery.

    Fear of OFF DAYS

I know what you're saying but i would caution you that it sounds like you are expecting perfection. You're wondering what will happen when you miss a day. I mean realistically do you expect to never miss a workout? You are doing a great job! You've obviously made huge changes in many areas. Let your confidence in youself grow as you muscles do as well. I walked 6-7 days a week till my mom got sick, went to hospice and then passed. I went to see her every day till she passed and i got a kidney stone. I didn't walk for over a week. Then i got back to walking, cycling and lifting. It's not about being perfect. I don't know anyone who is perfect. Don't hold yourself up to unrealistic expectations of perfection. You're going to do great if you just keep doing your best.
