For me personally, I decided to be open and honest with everyone from the start. I didn't mention anything about my surgery until everything was approved by my insurance company. I didn't feel the need to hide what I was doing. I came right out with it, and EVERYONE has been so supportive. I decided to even write a weight loss blog about my journey as a way to document my personal journey with friends and family. It was also a way for me to release and let go of some personal demons and struggles that I had held onto because of my weight. I started this in hopes that someone out there who is going through the same journey as me would be able to relate and for it to be a place of inspiration and motivation for someone who is thinking of doing this. This journey is not just a physical transformation, but it is a mental, emotional, AND spiritual transformation. Why NOT use it as an opportunity to do something empowering with it?!

VSG, I know the feeling. When I realized it would be a battle royale to get my insurance to approve me, I started to consider self pay and decided on Mexico. It took me four months to decide that and make an appointment but I feel really good about it. I'm getting sleeved on the 28th with Dr. Garcia in Tijuana.
    Don't give up!!!

I am new as a member to this forum, but I have been reading your posts anonymously for months. I am so grateful for this site. I was out of options and then I found this. I was so confident in my research and the stories here that I booked with Dr. Garcia and will have the sleeve done on 3/29. Just want to say that I am happy I found this site and will share my story for it to benefit someone as your stories have helped me tremendously.

Thanks so much for the update! I love it that you feel like you're eating all the time but it's only 750 cal/day. :tongue2:
I'm afraid I will find the sip sip way of drinking annoying as well. I'm used to drinking lots of Water so I tend to swig it. I'll have to be careful......

Rollargirl, I read your thread on India - the comments were pretty rough about it I thought. I looked at PV as an option but prices were slightly higher there and I didn't think I would be able to enjoy it like I want to. I can go anytime really, but you should go for it if you want to!

Sorry I haven't posted in so long. I made it home safe and sound but what a long day of travel. We left hotel at 8 am and got home at 3:00 am well 12 am if u don't count the time change. Word from the wise: even if I think u r fine and don't need a wheel chair ( which we didn't ) GET ON IF U HAVE A CONNECTING FLIGHT WITH A SMALL WINDOW OF TIME BETWEEN FLIGHTS. We only had a 50 minute layover and if not for are wheel chair that where waiting on us we would have missed r next flight. They ran us threw the airport and we made are flight by 1 minute and I'm not exaggerating. I feel really bad for the 2 wheel chair pushers that ran with me and by friends big bodies thru the airport. Lol. So now that I have been home I have been very tired and having a really hard time eating or drinking. I did manage to get down 1 Protein Shake and 24oz of Gatorade yesterday and two Protein Shakes and 8 ounces of Fluid so far today. I will get in more fluid b4 bed but I don't know how much. I am 12 pounds since pre op diet or just down 3 pounds since surgery. But I will take that.

Maybe the Spanish translation of pain medication would help?
    Medicamentos para el dolor
    (Medic-ah-MENT-ohs PAR-ah el DOH-lore)
Or just show the nurse the words. And say "mas" so he or she knows you want more.
I hope that helps. I'm so sorry you're in pain!

Amanda, in my Atkins days I played with cauliflower a lot. To be a remote sub for mashed potatoes, you will want to drain as much Water off as possible after cooking and mashing. I used a strainer. You can re-heat in the microwave. Of course butter and sour cream help But that was on Atkins. I used seasoned salt too. Hope that helps!

I'm one week post-op and feeling good. For all u pre-ops that are as anxious as I was...remember the end results are worth alittle anxiety. Anxiety exists because of fear of the unknown. Fear going by yourself, fear if surgery, fear of Mexico because of bad media publicity. Let me set your fears to ease. Thei doctors are very efficient, friendly, explainatory, and they talk with u, not at u. You're in very capable hands. You will receive wonderful care by all the staff. Take control of you and your future health by taking this fearful step towards a happier healthier you...you deserve it!

I have the same problem with the strawberry Unjury! I tried it with almond milk and that was too thick for me. Then I tried again with Water and some lemon juice (like half a lemon) and I loved it!
If you find some other way that you like, please post it.

Well, I'm off! Alarm went off promptly at 3am, but i was pretty much up at 2. I got through security without the complementary anal cavity search. Yay!
For those keeping track, I'm doing the same-day travel and surgery so I'll post as much about that part of the experience as possible. Part of having surgery same-day is that I have to wear compression socks on the way to Mexico to avoid clots. So, with a nod to Amytug, I share with you a little self-portrait of my own. Said in my best Austin powers villain voice... " I'm dead sexy!"

RCT - First of all, Mexico is NOT a third world country. You are obviously ignorant on the options in Mexico and making judgements. We don't need people to bring those of us down that are struggling with Obesity and are looking for ways to make our life better and regain our health and happiness. We are here to encourage, support and inform. And lastly the correct form of the verb is RUN. You would have RUN out of there not ran.

I had surgery in the US, my gallbladder removed, a sweet $40,000 bill is what I ended up with having no insurance. I puked and pissed the bed and on the floor, the nurse "couldn't feel any wetness" so she didn't change the bedding, and wiped my pee up with a papertowel. So in my opinion, US hospitals aren't that great and are by no means clean. So for those of you high and mighty folks who no way would go to mexico, maybe u need to look a little closer at what goes on here, its not so perfect
