  1. I'm able to drink an oz every 15 min now. I'm having warm/hot tea right now. I have a bottle of apple juice that I want to finish by 2 pm. I'm too cold to eat a Popsicle. But I will do at least 6 today/tonight. I will do at least one snack size cup of sf jello today too. Small goals.
  2. I was sleeved Monday and I'm doing great. Things that I have discovered. Warm homemade chicken Soup is good for your cold, but maybe not for a newly sleeved tummy. No matter how much I strained my broth it still had the greasy chicken fat residue. I soaked it up with a slice of bread and some of that residue was still there. My tummy hurt after I sipped a few teaspoons. Bad gas pains. Warm tea (w/ Splenda) helps to settle nausea Ice chips are my new best friend. Slow sips of Gatorade or apple juice off a spoon or from a 1 oz cup is easy. Every 15 min drink an ounce. Sf Jello allows you to chew, as does Ice. I'm not as dizzy & lightheaded as I was last night. I feel better.
  3. Oh no! Use a gas x strip. I'm watching the clock & every 15 minutes I'm drinking an oz. I just had the best pink Popsicle. It's the kind in a clear tube. It was soooooo easy to eat it. I've got 6 oz of Gatorade down, two oz of water & a bunch of ice chips since 7 pm. I feel alot better.
  4. My dr told me to crush any pill (tums, vitamins, Tylenol) for 3 full weeks after surgery. He told me that the sleeve won't tolerate whole pills.
  5. Apple juice or Gatorade is what I mix to my crushed med's. I was sleeved on Monday and can't have applesauce for 2 more weeks.
  6. My dr told me no protein until Monday. I'm shakes & weak and I know it's because I have no 'food' in my body. My BP & blood sugar levels are good. I'm still not getting 3 oz of liquids an hour. I'm trying, I'm just full!!! I hope I stay full forever. I don't even want to see food right now.
  7. Just stay hydrated. And walk. I'm feeling weak today (post op day 4) and have felt lightheaded & dizzy, my tummy hurts if I drink too much. Just keep sipping small sips every 1-2 minutes. I wish you tons of success!!
  8. I'm on day 4 post op, I've got 5 incisions, I'm down 18 pounds and 11 since surgery on Monday. At times I feel like crud and ingest weakness and shaky but I drink a bit and it goes away. On Monday I get to begin my Protein drinks so I'm sure I'll feel better then.
  9. No no no!!! No real food week one. You could tear your stomach or get something stuck in the stitches. Drink Clear liquids, broths, chew ice, eat a popsicle. I'm not hungry at all and have family eating around me all the time. You've got to be prepared for a few rough spots. You can do this!!
  10. I was sleeved on Monday and I am on clear liquids, juice, water, sf jello, popsicles, broth, gatorade until Monday Mar 4, then proteins will begin. I'm not hungry at all but my tummy gurgles and makes all kinds of weird sounds so I use a gas x dissolvable strip and it settles it.
  11. I hope you feel better Julie. Dr B told me no whole pills for 3 weeks. I crushed my sleeping pill and dissolved it in juice and sipped it off a spoon, I did the same with my fibro med's and my hormone pills. I haven't taken anything since Sunday so my body is reacting to the med's being taken away. So tomorrow I will reintroduce my savella, prempro, flexeril, ambien & Mobic. I'm hoping everything will be ok tummy wise if I space them a couple hours apart and drink after each. Tonight I drank 3 oz in 2 hours and I'm almost finished with 2 oz apple juice and I have an entire cup of crushed ice and I just keep eating small pieces. Earlier I felt like crud, but I got up and walked a bit, then I stood and sipped Gatorade and apple juice every 1- 2 minutes and I felt better. I'm still not sleepy but I'm going to go lay down and read for a while.
  12. I'm having a rough day. I'm struggling to drink more than an ounce an hour. I managed 2 1/4 oz in 70 minutes but I feel so full that I am miserable. I sip small amounts of Water, Gatorade, chicken broth, tea, I had Jello (all sugar free) and I have been eating small ice chips from Sonic drive in (they have soft small round cubes) but I feel weird. Very lightheaded, weak and now I think I might be catching a cold. I keep coughing and coughing. I've used my rescue inhaler twice today. My pulse is 96 and my BP is 105/72 and my blood sugar is 97 and my temp is 98.7. Any suggestions?
  13. I was sleeved on Monday and my doctor has me on clear liquids, water, Gatorade, sugar free apple juice, white grape juice, jello, Popsicles, crushed ice...he told me not to worry about proteins at this time, to just stay hydrated. I return for my 1 week visit on Monday and then will begin creamy proteins for a week. I think Grits & oatmeal should be week 3 or 4 not week one.
  14. Thank you!! I was sleeved on Monday and so far I've lost 11 pounds. I'm not hungry and so far I'm doing ok with soup broth, jello, ice chips and warm tea. Hot hurt my tummy, but warm is good. Once again thank you for sharing!!!
  15. I had surgery on Monday too. I'm feeling so much better. I've lost 11 pounds since Monday & 18 since my initial consultation on Jan 21
  16. Very little pain from the incisions, my belly button is sore, but it is getting better every day. I'm down 11 pounds since Monday morning. I'm constantly eating ice chips, I've been sipping on lemon zinger tea, Water, Gatorade and sf Jello.
  17. I just had surgery on Monday and I don't regret it at all!! Good luck!
  18. I feel 100% better today!! I got sleeved on Monday. I would totally recommend Dr. Borland and the staff at the New Iberia Surgical Center (in New Iberia, Louisiana) they are all so nice & professional but friendly at the same time. I needed to be there by 8:30 Monday morning. I arrived about 8:15 and filled out some paperwork, put a bracelet on my wrist, then they called me to the back about 8:45 and and I was given a gown, the nurse asked asked my name, birthdate & reason I was there, then I was put on a stretcher, they did the IV, blood pressure cuff, and gave me a dose of stomach acid neutralizer (tasted like a very tart sweet tart) I was given an anti-inflammatory shot and something to dry out my mouth and then the anasteologist came in and talked to me and then the 2 surgical nurses talked to me and then the asst surgeon came in. They each asked if I had any questions or any concerns. Like I said they were very friendly & professional. I was wheeled to the OR and they put the mask on my face & next thing I know I'm waking up in recovery. I had a hard time staying awake and they kept giving me something for pain and it would knock me out. My surgery was finished by 12:30 but I was in recovery until 4:30 and I started waking up and I needed to pee really bad. I got up and was able to walk to the bathroom. I stopped at the sink and I rinsed and rinsed my mouth. It was yellow & gross. My cheeks were sticking to my teeth. The nurse gave me a cup of Water and I'd rinse and spit. My husband drove to the front of the surgical center and they wheeled me out to him. We checked into the Candlewoood Suites Hotel and Dr. Borland was there in about 10 minutes and he checked on me. Took temp, BP, checked incisions and gave me his beeper, home & cellphone numbers and told me to call if there were any problems, if I felt bad or had fever to call him. He told me to begin sipping around 9:00-10:00. I took tiny sips and managed ok that night. I had liquid lortab for pain, but it made me nauseated to take it. I got bad dry heaves. I had to wear the massage stockings on my legs (to prevent blood clots) and I had to get up every 2 hours and walk and sip water. I had to pee every couple hours anyway due to all the fluids they pumped into me. I walked around our room often and sipped slowly. The next morning I felt ok and the surgery center called to check on me. She told me to sip chicken broth, Gatorade, water, Clear Liquids, apple juice and ice chips. I tried chicken broth from a can and it was gross, I gagged on it. The apple juice was way to sweet, but the Gatorade was ok. My husband got me some ice from Sonic Drive In.They have soft small round ice and it practically dissolves on your tongue. I hurt a bit but was able to shower and I felt better. My stomache kept gurgling, making sounds and I felt like I needed to burp but couldn't. I used a gas x strip and it settled my tummy right away. The most pain was and still is in my belly button and my ribs hurt quite a bit. Day 2 was better than day 1. The ice chips make taking in my liquids easier. I used a spoon and would sip Gatorade & eat ice off the spoon. Also chewing the ice makes it feel like your eating. I am not hungry at all. In fact I feel full after a few spoons of ice. The doctor released me this morning and when I got home my mom had made a pot of chicken Soup and I sipped a bit of broth and I feel so much better. Day 3 really is a good day. I'm a bit sore but I am able to walk and move and sit up with minimal pain. This is the BEST decision that I ever made and I do not regret it one bit. If anyone is considering self pay I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Borland. I'm very satisfied and I have my follow up on Monday. I can't wait to see how much I have lost.
  19. It's honestly not that bad. It's more of an entire torso pain than incision pain. It's like when you're sick & cough until your ribs hurt. A couple times I swallowed to quickly and instantly felt nauseated. The dr wants me to drink 2oz every few hours but I'm managing about an oz. good luck!!
  20. Yesterday I was sleeved. Last night was rough. The liquid pain meds made me dry heave. So I mixed a bit with Water and sipped that. I have been taking tiny sips of water. Apple juice made me sick. I'm sipping Gatorade & in about an hour I'll try Soup broth. My pain is manageable even without taking the full dose of meds. I've been up and walking. I just had a shower (I have to use dial soap) last night I woke up every 2 hours to pee and walk. Hopefully tonight I can sleep longer.
  21. OMG - 10 hours till surgery and I am STILL in the bathroom. Those 20 oz of magnesium citrate are working. I did liquids for 24 hours, yesterday I ate very little & drank a shake, Friday I ate very little and drank shakes. How in the world is there this much inside of me. Good news is that from consult to now I've dropped 17.6 pounds on my own!! He didn't give me a diet to follow. I'm proud of my self.
  22. Thanks, I've got 2 oz left to go and I'm trying so hard to keep it down. My stomach is heaving!!
