Lisa R. reacted to mamamareli in 4 months out and falling off wagon
I did not post that looking for "permission" to eat junk. I was sharing my struggle and hoping for some encouragement to get back on track. And partly I was posting just to be accountable to myself by making it public. I was being honest.
I really find that there is a lot of negativity and judgement on this forum.
The best advice I've gotten so far was the suggestion about a therapist. The rest is just nasty and judgmental. And to the person who said "stop eating ****"... You are about 4 days out, right? I hope for your sake you don't struggle like I am at 4 months, but at 4 days food made me sick. That changes over time and it does get harder. I'm not making excuses for my choices. Just being real and looking for some help.

Hi friends! Just wanted to check in to Celebrate 6 months of weight loss with you all. I was sleeved in Corvallis, Oregon Jan 14th 2013. My highest weight was 407, lost about 20 lbs before surgery and I have lost 121 for a total loss of 141 lbs. I've gone from a size 32-34 5x to a 22W or 2x. I am still about 116 lbs overweight, but I'm only 6 months in and I very happy with the progress I've made.
It's funny, I work in a casino and wear a uniform to work which is much too large now. Occasionally, I stop in for entertainment of events when I'm not working and the compliments I get wearing clothing that actually fits are amazing! I have never felt like I made a better decision than when I got my sleeve.
i spend less time than I used to on the forums, but I just wanted to share my happiness with people who would understand!

Hello Everyone!!!! Today is my Big Day !! This time last year I changed my life. I had VSG. If you followed me in the beginning you would know that i had a lot of problems. I was sick for about 4-5 months after having the surgery and I had a lot of regret because people were having more success than me... After a while and some tweeks in Vitamins things started to turn around... By my 6 months I had lost 100lbs.. this was revealed on Christmas Day.. Then I met my weight loss goal of 160lbs on Feb 27th.. I have been maintaining since then between 153-160.. Today I weighed in at 152lbs. I am not going to say that my journey has been easy because it hasn't .. It took me a long time to come around.. I had a love hate relationship with food for a long time... There are still foods that i cant or don't eat and I don't push it.. I just let it be.. I so not do Pasta, rice or breads.. I will so sliced bread every now and then. I work out 5-7 days a week. I workout with a personal trainer 2 days a week, I walk, I'm running now.. The longest was 3.5 miles this pass weekend. I have done 3 5k's and i have one scheduled for next Sat which ill be my 4th and my 2nd obstacle run... I box, lift weights, hula hoop and I can walk up hills and stairs like its nothing. I eat 3 meals a day with 1-2 snacks.. I still measure my food. I don't drink with my food, nor do I drink alcohol. I do use a straw and i have been using one since 3-4 weeks after surgery per my docs approval. I pretty much follow the rules 85-90% of the time.. but I will say I love dark chocolate and I do partake, lol. No cakes or Cookies and no other candies, just chocolate.. I love my new life now... I learning to love the new me everyday!!! I have let go of a lot of pain that got me to my point of unhappiness and over weight.. I have forgiving a lot of people and I have told a lot of folks where can go to... I surround my self with positive folks and My Husband has been my Number 1 Supporter. In this last year, I have been to multiple concerts, 4 weddings, zip-lined indoor sky dived.. danced the night away in 4 inch heels and I have even been in a size 2... My beginning wt was 273.6, I am now in small tops and dress. size 4-6 pants, my feet even got smaller I went from a 10 to a 8.5. I have had my wedding ring re-sized twice and it needs it again. Links have been taking out of my watch.. I just have so much energy.. and my favorite thing to do is to cross my legs... I am off all meds, cpap, and pain management. I have gone from seeing my docks every other week to once a year now!!! There are so many NVS I cant count but I'm sure you get the just of it... and along the way I have meet some awesome people in the weight loss community!! I'm super excited about today!!!

I totally agree! My fave is " I've only lost 10,20,40 pounds or whatever in 4 weeks, whats wrong with me......really cause I don't think you gained 50-150 pounds in 4 weeks so why expect to lose it that quickly. You certainly don't lose that much quicker that you gain. We all just want a magic bullet that's going to make us skinny.

I have noticed this, too, and I have been a member here now for almost two years. I think Amanda is spot on.
The surgery is becoming more popular and people are getting it done because, "I know a friend who had it done and they look great," so, they jump in without really doing the proper research. They don't realize the recovery time from a surgery alone is difficult, then add in the whole eating component, and they are like, "WTF!!"
Sad news is, it's is only going to get worse as more and more people jump in without looking. All they know is that their friend is skinny now and they want to be skinny, too. Like some folks out there who criticize WLS, these folks think this is an easy answer to obesity. When they learn it isn't, they have regrets.

I can't speak for others, but as it applies to me... I needed to be just "over" food as a hobby and recreation and emotional support and whatever else I thought it gave me before I was ready for the sleeve. I wrestled with the decision for a couple of years, and that is from someone who was previously banded and failed miserably at it.
It was like breaking up with a bad boyfriend...lol. I did that BEFORE my surgery but my hunger is what drove me to eat and I needed the surgery to help me with the hunger - the bottomless pit of a stomach.
The sleeve... set me free. I was able to not only dump the "bad boyfriend", but sent him packing with no regrets!
Everyone should be crystal clear - the sleeve does NOT fix the brain and emotions... In fact, the sleeve will introduce NEW emotional challenges so screw that head on straight before going under the knife.

I see nothing wrong with deserving some popcorn. If you want the popcorn have the popcorn. I had some popcorn. It was very tasty. And not only that - I had said popcorn at the movies ( waiting for mortified gasp of horror from the popcorn analysts )! It was delicious, it did not send me into a spiral into banned food hell, and I was able to recognize when I was full and put it down. Didn't gain a single ounce from my dastardly deed.
Have the popcorn! Personally, I think I deserve a huge t-bone steak. Too bad I would only be able to eat 3 bites. Maybe I'll have more popcorn instead. I was able to eat 10 to12 bites of it.

Are you a fan of chili? I make it with really lean hamburger and extra kidney beans.....lots of protein!!! It doesn't upset my stomach, however I don't make it spicy.

Went to the doctors and my blood pressure was 98/58. Way to low! So I am no longer taking blood pressure meds. Something I have been looking forward to, but didn't expect for it to happen only 3 weeks out of surgery. So glad I decided to go to the doctors. :0)

Lets see, could it have been the same inconsiderate person asking me on 2 different occassions when I was 'due'? Or distant relatives saying "well if you are happy at that size then it shouldnt matter what others think"? Or always having to squeeze into a restaurant booth? Or being ashamed to even eat in front of people for fear of being judged? Or always having to shop in the big girls section at any store and only fitting into clothes my gramma would wear? Or not being able to reach to shave the back side of my legs? Or having to be a contortionist to wipe my ass? Pick one. I lived with constant humiliation and shame. Now I dont shop at the big girl stores, no one asks if Im pregnant, people are amazed at how little I eat at one time, I can fit in any booth, shave my legs and wipe my ass like a champ I love my sleeve. I have so much energy, I sleep great and most importantly, Im proud of myself.
