What to expect from the hospital stay?!
Where comfy clothes to the hospital and where the same ones home although i did bring a couple pair of underwear, and wear a sports bra or something comfortable vs a wire bra since one incision is close to bra line. Sugar free cough drops, listerine tabs, slippers and robe. Someone recommended an eye mask and ear plugs but I did not need them.

Mom of a Toddler
I have a 3 and 6 year old. I worried about the same thing. They both understood that mommy was hurt and that they could not jump on me and did a pretty good job. To tell you the truth my stomach did not hurt much not that I would want a little person to camp out on it and I have lifted both of them. Not often but have along with some flower pots and groceries that I probable should not have lifted. Now I'm not condoning this behavior. I've used chairs a lot where they can get on a chair and I can hug them. Or when I'm sitting in a chair they will sit on the arm. You might want to start "practicing" with him now. I didn't tell my kids about the surgery but when you get home you could share a kids book with him like Madeleine (when she goes to the hospital to get her appendix out) and discuss your similarities and how the kids had to be careful/kind to Madeleine when she got out of the hospital. Hope this helps and good for you to do this for you and him! Good luck.

Day 4 Post Op
Hang in there it will get better. Work on fluids over protein if you have too. If you don't get enough fluids you may get nauseous. Just something to look out for. Cut yourself some slack, rest, walk, stay hopeful for the change which will come.

Offended? Dating and weight.
Yeah I'm not too sure about this guy. He's not bright enough to realize he sent you the video with him talking about you in the background.

Depressed
I was sleeved Mon the 18th , am still in hosp and have this problem. My dr cut me off from eating/drinking to let stomach heal. He said this symptom/complication happens 20% of the time. They have placed a pic line so they can get vit nutrients and liquid in me. I will have to go home with this. Won't be until Mon to tues. so sick of hospital. Have not eaten 9 days just starting to get hungry. Even with all the IVs I am so thirsty but I dare not drink because it will get stuck in esophagus and end up in lungs. I currently have pneumonia in both lungs. I started to get sad but try to keep my spirits up. My dr said he's seen this last 16 weeks! I took myself off the pain meds and seemed to be fine little sore when moving. This sucks.

How are fellow March 19/20 sleevers doing?
Luckily no bad gas pains. I take walks to help with this. I was sleeved Mon and was horrible nauseous. I was not able to keep any liquid down and through mult I Chest X-rays shower the opening to my stomach from the esophagus was almost closed. All the Fluid I took in would stay in my esophagus. A horrible feeling. Long story short I got Pneumonia in both lungs. Waiting to get a pic line and maybe sent home soon?. Nausea is better when I don't eat. What I wounded do for a big gulp sf lemonade. Trying to stay positive this too shall pass.

Any March 19 sleevers?
I was sleeved Monday the 18th all went well but I had terrible nausea right after surg. And for the next few days. What we've learned so the hole coming from my esophagus into my stomach is near closes. All liquid I was dying to take ended up in my esophagus and then lungs. Now I have pneumonia. They have been feeding me by iV and talking about sending me home with an iV. I would like them to put a scope down my esophagus just to what it looks like. My drs are convinced its just swelling. I should know Moore soon. Be grateful we were able to have the surgery.

surgery tomorrow morning
Mine is tomorrow too. I just want it over ASAP so I can move on with my new life! Stay positive I also have young kids and know we will see plenty of them. Deep breathes, distractions, chicken broth, and visions of a lighter you dancing in your head. This surgery will give us more years with our kids. How can I not do it. I will pray for all of us. Stay strong.

I also have the Calcet bites lemon and chocolate and Citracal + D. I like variety!! Multi-Centrum I buy the Walmart brand-same ingredients and ALOT cheaper. Until I was able to swallow BIG pills at 4 weeks, I did the Bariatric Advantage Orange chewable multi. Iron- Bariatric Advantage Chocolate Raspberry Truffel chews and Ferrous Gluconate supplements from my dr. (I am anemic and have to take more!!) ■Centrum multiviamin chewables, orange flavor.. one a day after I eat my last bite of lunch! Wal-Mart & other stores sell Biotin, but the pill size is large or the dose is too small... this one is great, small litle gel pill, so easy to swallow... Celebrate Multi Complete with Iron - 2 daily chewables Celebrate calcium citrate 500mg with Vit D and Magnesium chewables - 2 daily (don't do carbonate, we don't absorb it properly, and it's the cheapest, least assimilated form of calcium on the market) Sublingual b12 (WalMart or Walgreens) 2500mcg per day The recommendation from my surgeon: During losing stage, Multi vitamin with iron (depending on type/brand, just need the regular serving size be it 1 or 2), Calcium citrate 1200-1500mg (in maintenance since I can consume more dairy, only need 1000mg, B12 vaires by lab results. B12 (and several others are water soluble and we can not absorb b12 via swallowed or chewed pills) so supplementing with a sublingual or injectable is required to ensure maintenance levels of b12. March 18th sleevers
We are one week away from one of the best decisions we will make in our lives. Remember to stay positive in the down times imagine what your future looks like lighter. I know the first couple days to a week it may suck and we may have doubts but keep the faith to persevere. One thing I've learned from this forum is even the people who reported that they regretted do it right after surgery and then I see there posts a year later saying its the best thing they did for themselves. That is what I will be thinking about in the dark times. We will be happy. Lets stay in touch.

Anyone having problems telling others?
I did but then started to preface the discussion with I need you to be positive and accepting with what I'm going to share.

Abdominal belly band binder brand?
From what I've read from others it can really help with the pain. Search forum to see discussions.

Very informative resource on before during and after phy and psyc
http://www.permanente.net/homepage/kaiser/pdf/39806.pdf I found the above link to a bariactric instruction document from Kaiser. Although it is on the band and bypass I find it very relevant to sleeve. What I like best is how they speak to the whole person physically and psychologically and they have tools to help work through emotions that can lead to overeating. By far one of the best and most inclusive support materials I've read.

After surgery how did you take your Antidepressant after surgery?

Abdominal belly band binder brand?
Hi all if you used a belly band/binder can you tell me what brand you bought, was it 9 or 12 inches wide and was it true to the size advertised? I've been looking at them on amazon and am just not sure what features to go for. Thank you.

Fertility Treatments vs. VSG surgery
I would try for the baby first based on statistics of age. I was 230 and got pregnant with fertility shots at the age of 36 and 39. Good luck to you in whatever you decide.

Day 5 post VSG.

help! less than 3 weeks away from surgery, STILL undecided!
I know when I made the decision to get the sleeve I was sick of being obsessed with food and was tired of all the time and guilt I put in thinking about food. I look forward to loosing my hunger and being able to feel full quickly. Time will tell but I'm optimistic for this change. You will be able to eat most of what you want eventually just in smaller portions. Thi tool will hopefully help us make better choices. Good questions to ask yourself good luck.

Beginning of two weeks post op
Trust it will get better everyday and share with this group how your feeling that's what we are here for. Try to walk, get out a bit, talk with family or friends, call your dr. You just went through a major life change this is to be expected. Think about how great you will feel when the pounds start falling off. Hang in there an be kind to yourself.
-
I'm Scared!
We do this for ourselves no one knows the struggle we have had with food. It does not matter what someone says or thinks but yourself. Ask yourself do you think you can loose the weight on your own. If yes can you keep it off. I'm scared too my surgery is the 18th but I know it will go well it won't be a walk in the park but I feel it will work well for me. I'm ready to do the work that's all I can do to be prepared.
