I'm pre-op. 20. I'm looking for people to talk to through this process as well.

Most of these posts have been very encouraging to me...I am praying that VSG will at least help me keep my type 2 diabetes under control...currently, I am having a difficult time controlling it, and my last a1c was around 11 having been a diabetic for over 10 years now, I am starting to experience some serious complications, and it's scary--so scary that I have decided to proceed with WLS (even though that also frightens me terribly)...thanks for the words of encouragement, even though I realize some of these posts are over 2 years old...I would appreciate updates from anybody or new feedback...best to all

OMG I REALLY CAN NOT BELIEVE THIS. I CALLED INSURANCE COMPANY JUST NOW TO SEE IF THEY HAD RECIEVED INFO SURGEONS OFFICE SUBMITTED ON MONDAY, YES JUST 3 DAYS AGO. AND I FIND OUT NOT ONLY HAVE THEY GOTTEN INFO THEY HAVE APPROVED ME AS "MEDICALLY APPROPRIATE FOR SURGEY"!!! YIPEE I AM SO EMOTIONAL RIGHT NOW, THIS IS REAL AND ABLE TO HAPPEN. MY LIFE CAN REALLY BE DIFFERENT. WOW
SO SHE THEY ACTUAL LETTER WILL BE GOING OUT IN A FEW DAYS BUT I AM APPROVED!!! I AM JUST.....(SNIFF-SNIFF) WOW!

oh WOW!, keep us informed on how your pre surgery diet and test go

Awesome, at least you have your stuff done, now its just waiting game and im sure everything will go fine

I didn't have to do this, but I would think once the conversation is done the decision should be fairly quick! Just my thoughts...good luck!

Just wanted to update...unfortunately my insurance company would only go back 2 yrs, not 3, for my diet history, so starting over it is. The good news is that they go by calendar month, so February counts as a month, and I can have my last appt on July 1, and July will count too. So it's really like 4 1/2 . I can handle that, and hope to lose 10% of my weight in that time.
The other good news is that my out of pocket costs (which are substantial--$4500) I will be able to pay over 2 years on a payment plan, rather than all at once. Big relief there!

Well ladies I took a test just now and it's POSITIVE!!

I'm probably going to have my surgery in late June to early July because I have to do a 6 month supervisor diet for my insurance and I'm only in my 2 month. I also what to have the whole summer to recover from surgery and go back to school and work at the end of August.

Im also hopeing for a JUNE Date right now Im on a 6 mnth diet so far Im on mnth 2 almost wk2 monday today is friday my 6 mnth diet will be over with in May or JUNE but I have a 14 day preop diet it can be July if it needs to be AFTER THE 4th of July abt the 8th and I will have time to prepare myself

Newme that is so true! You have so much to learn in the 6 month and the mental piece is huge. I'm over the half way mark for the 6 month and I can't believe how much better I'm prepared then I was like the 2nd month in when I just couldn't wait. I still want it but its given me time to prepare in many ways.

It is all about the insurance companies and what they require for you to do to have this surgery. I called my insurance company up and checked it out before I even talked to my surgeon. I had a physical with my primary care physician and spoke with her about this surgery and if I was even a candidate. Since I had high blood pressure, sleep apnea, and my bmi was high. My doctor had to write a letter for my insurance company explaining that I would benefit from the surgery. Then I had to see a nutritionist totaling 6 visits,,,and see a cardiologist, and speak with a psychiatrist for about 2 hours. They make you go thru many hoops...but in the end you do benefit from it. Be your own advocate and get the things done you need to do to have the surgery as soon as you want it. Take charge and good luck. It is sooo worth the trouble!
