So i got a called last friday to say that i was approved...the lady was was talking on the phone but all i could hear after that was waaaah waa waah waaaa wah ( i was just zoning out from finding out) and i asked if the approval was for insurance says yes, that there is more paperwork to do and that a few more appointments before actual surgery (she hasnt given me any dates for anything so far) i was like ok ....but then i wanted to double check just like a lot of people do so as to cover all my bases. I call bcbs of mi and asked if surgeons office sent info to get approval.. says that no they havent sent anything but that is not so much as a paper approval letter from BCBS but that all 6 month diet and phsyc documentation the surgeon had to have in my file and once his office would get that info. that the surgeon needs it to document just incase he gets audited. I have really good insurance where they pay anything and if there is copay or anything left we have a card that is given by his employer to pay for it. lie a benefits card. so I was wondering.... have any of you dealt with something like this? I thought i was to get a proper letter of approval from insurance.

That sounds awesome! Having a friend go through it with you , will make that friendship even stronger. Im happy for both of you and good luck

I am Pre-Op and 25... going through the paperwork process , I am from michigan

Im mexican living with an Irish husband so i have to tone things down for him, so im kind of used to the toning of my foods. I haven had the surgery just yet but i am diabetic and i eat black beans with shredded chicken with a tiny bit of salt or taco seasoning and eat it with Quinoa, or egg whites with black beans with a little sason and you got double protein winner.

Im just starting out with he paperwork so hopefully you guys are here when and if i get the surgery (insurance approving) in june july or august.

I also am in the same boat - just waiting because of the 6 month thing and just started on the 16th of jan at weight watchers and going every week for weigh ins with them and every month to weigh in with my dr.......sometimes i wish they just did a 3 month documentation oh well - hoping for june/july surgery

I feel bad for those spouses getting divorce after WLS but they saved themselves time i guess by dealing with issues that were being covered. My husband understands that if i dont get this done, it would be only a matter of time before diabetes gets me pretty soon and neither of us want that plus we want to have a baby. He already looks athletic so I have been on him about my insecurities instead of opposite lol But in the end is about YOU and YOU only, so kindly ask for support from spouse and don't ignore them while your self discovering yourself again while your loosing weight- its an exciting time for both of you

I also have bcbs of mi but its a ppo and didnt need any pre authorization ; all they wanted was diet documentation ( 6 months), minimum bmi of 35 with co morbities and a letter from dr saying he recommends it. im "lightweight cause i have less than 100lbs to lose, i havent had my phsych eval nor my diet documentation but did go to consultation and basically they just told me they only needed what ins required. I do know some other insurances may need pre authorization but my bcbs of mi doesnt need anything except the doctor just needs the approval letter from the ins that is ok to proceed with surgery after the requirements are met.

Im also doing the wait game- I called early ahead to my ins to see what i needed and needless to say, the dang 6 month documentation was required- i have a bmi of 37 and have to walk a fine line to not get denied for the next 5 months since i have 1 month of weigh ins with doctors and weight watchers.. im tearing my hair off ... but its all good..we can wait together
