  1. I get migraines and asked my doctor if I could still take Excederine Migraine. He said yes. I have not had any problems after taking it.
  2. Sorry, I wasn't trying to lump all RN's in the same category, just explaining my experience with the spouse of one. I am also in the medical field and do understand all the risks involved. Sorry if I offended anyone, that wasn't my intention.
  3. I had a coworker whose spouse is a nurse. When I mentioned to her that I was thinking about getting this surgery, she gave me the riot act and talked about all the negative things her husband had to say about it. I think that RN's only see the negative in this surgery as that is what they have to deal with. They don't see all the possitive outcomes of this surgery because those of us that are lucky to not have serious complications don't every go back to the hospital. Do what feels right for you. Trust the doctors that specialize in this surgery and the stories you hear from others that have gone through it. Those are the experts. Yes, it hurts to not have support, but you have to do what is best for you. Good luck!
  4. I have seen many posts from people on here where they just did the clear liquid diet the day before surgery. Every doctor is different. If this is what your doctor has instructed you to do, it should be fine. If you are super concerned about it, talk to your doctor and see if he/she can ease your mind.
  5. I was sleeved on 02/11/13 and am down 22 pounds since the day of surgery. I don't consider this to be another diet. This is my new life. Getting the sleeve was just one of the tools I needed to help me in this new lifestyle. I would suggest that you see a nutritionist first. I was reluctant to do that because I knew what I should be eating and that I should be eating smaller portions, but what she taught me helped in all this. Yes, you will lose weight. There is no way not to when you are limited to eating such small amounts. The only way this will fail is if you don't follow the rules. These rules are just for the first year, they are for life. You need to prepare yourself for this. Research it, talk with your doctor. I know many people that don't have obesity or overweight problems don't think this surgery is a good idea, but those of us who have tried other forms of weight loss need this little push to get us going in the right direction. Good luck!
  6. I was sleeved on 02/11/13, so not that far out, but I hate the word "diet." I've always felt it had a negative meaning to it. I don't consider myself to be on a diet. I have changed the way I eat, making healthier and better choices. To me, diet is only a temporary thing to lose a specific amount of weight. Yes, we are all on here because we want to lose, and are losing, weight, but I think that our eating choices need to be made out of habit, not because of being on a diet. Besides, once we all meet our goal, our eating choices shouldn't be changing.
  7. Are you able to go to your local health department and get them? I work for our local health department and our doctors give those shots all the time. I know you can get b12 vitamins over the counter, but I didn't think you could get the injectable meds without a prescription, but maybe I'm wrong.
  8. I've been feeling really good about my progress lately, not just the weight loss, but also my physical abilities and what i can now accomplish. I had taken the day off from work yesterday and decided to reward myself. I went to the movies and saw GI Joe 2. I know I shouldn't have bought the popcorn, but I did and just got the smallest size. The sales girl tried to get me to buy the size bigger (she was just doing her job) and although I would have loved it, I refused because I knew I couldn't eat that much and didn't want to take it home with me only to finish it off later. Then she asked the bigger question, do you want butter on that? I said yes (even though I know how bad it is), but I didn't ask her to put some in the middle as I would have before surgery. Ohhhhh....how yummy it was. Half way through the movie and I had only eaten half the bag. I put it down to stop myself from getting sick. I later picked it back up and ate a little more. I had to put it back down again because it was making me feel sick. The movie was almost over and I had the urge to use the bathroom. So glad I was able to finish the movie before rushing out, although I could have waited for this movie to come out on DVD. Not worth the money, even though I did see it in 3D. On my way home, I decided that I was going to make this a "cheat" day for myself. I stopped at my favorite Teriyaki place and got some spicy chicken teriyaki. I also stopped at the local produce stand and got some fruits for the week and vegitables for the soup I planned to make for the weekend. By the time I got home, I was hungry, so I started eating some of the chicken. I didn't touch the rice because I know I shouldn't be eating it, even though this is my cheat day. I probably ate about 4 or 5 pieces of the chicken and had to stop. That chicken ended up being 3 meals for me. Yes, I did eat it again for dinner and the rest of it this morning for breakfast. So, what I'm finding that even though I want to try to eat some of the things that I used to before surgery, I'm still applying some of the teachings my nutritionist taught me, by habit and not from guilt of what I'm eating. I also weighed myself this morning and I'm down 3 pounds, which made me not feel so bad about eating things that aren't so good for me yesterday. I did realize that even though the popcorn tasted amazing, I probably will try it without the butter next time I go to the movies (I don't do it very often). I also realized that the teriyaki that I used to love doesn't taste as good now. Lastly, I know that it's okay to treat myself once in a while and knowing that I still can apply what I've learned to my choices, I still can do it without feeling guilty providing that it's on a rare occasion. Today, I am back on my schedule of making good choices (minus the teriyaki breakfast). By the way, I did eat my normal breakfast for lunch. I'm feeling good, possitive and happy and can't wait to see/feel the changes that will happen through out the next year. =)
  9. Just thinking about this again, 20 pounds a month would mean that I would reach goal in 5 to 6 months. I wouldn't feel disappointed at all about that.
  10. Not sure if you mean if I had to go back to before surgery and making the decision again, or choosing to have a second surgery. If I could go back to before I had the surgery, I wouldn't change my decision. I think this was the best thing I have done (weight loss wise). If this doesn't work, which is doubtful, I wouldn't have another surgery because that would be the RNY and I don't like the re-arranging the order of things inside me.
  11. $5.99 a serving. Hmmm...isn't that how much it costs to eat a meal out? LOL I am about a month and a half out and don't use protein drinks anymore. I get almost all my protein from chicken.
  12. I weigh every day, but because of how our bodies fluctuate (wish this thing had spell check!), I only claim it if it has stayed consistant for at least 2 days in a row.
  13. I had a moment of regret after my one month follow up with my doctor. I was the same weight as I was on my week follow up. I felt really depressed and thought that I put my body through all this only to not have results. I'm finding more and more that it was just a moment of weekness and I needed to be more patient (not a strong quality of mine). Although I haven't lost as much as I have hoped to by now, I am seeing a difference in how my clothes fit and am physically stronger. I now know that it will take time, but as long as I stick to the plan, this will work. Hang in there and try to find the possitive in it all and don't let anyone bring you down. You can do this!
  14. I think you are right on track. I have only lost 18 pounds since being sleeved on 02/11/13. I started taking measurements a couple weeks ago (kept forgetting to buy measuring tape when I went shopping). This is helping because although I can see the difference in how my clothes fit, I want to see results. Also, starting on the 20th of this month, I started using the elliptical rather than the treadmill. I have never been able to do more than 10 minutes on it. I have been doing 30 minutes, 3 times a week. So, even though the scale is moving slowly, I seeing results in other places.
  15. I was also sleeved on 02/11/13. I've lost 18 pounds since surgery. I think we must be doing something right since it's about the same for all of us. Also, my clothes are much looser. I haven't been able to go to a smaller size yet because of my thunder thighs, but I sure can tell the difference in how my clothes fit. =) I was 262 at weigh in on the day of surgery.
  16. I didn't have the problem you are having, but had a similar one. I wasn't able to fully empty my bladder. Was checked for kidney stones, none. Doctor said it was because of my weight and told me to sit "backwards" on the toilet. Um, yeah, right. Like I'm really going to do that! Anyway, since having the surgery, the problem went away. So nice to not have to worry about leakage after you get up from the toilet. =)
  17. Come up to Washington state and get married. It's legal here. =) Great video!
  18. I did this the weekend before I had to start my pre-op diet, but that was it. I don't regret doing it and don't crave the foods I used to eat.
  19. Until you get it under control, make sure you take iron pills because all that blood loss will make you anemic.
  20. I'm one that always felt like I was smaller than my pictures looked, until I got at my heaviest, 287. I was having problems moving around normally. Now that I have lost 40 pounds (262 on day of surger), I'm starting to feel like my old self again and am feeling thinner. I've accepted being a "big" girl, and have never had a problem attracting men, but I can't wait to see how things are in a smaller body.
  21. I'm curious about this too. I still have the bulge above my belly button, but have noticed that below it has gotten smaller. At my last check up, my doctor explained that the mass that I feel under the incision site is still healing and will eventually go away. I guess I should have asked when. LOL
  22. Although it wasn't a great food choice, I think some people need to give her a break. My nutritionist told me that if I want to splurge every now and then, that I just need to make a compromise in doing it. For example, if I want a mocha instead of just regular coffee, walk to the coffee shop to get it rather than drive (it's not that far from me). If we don't feed our cravings once in a while, we are going to drive ourselves nuts with desire for it. Yes, a Big Mac is a lot of food, but she did eat it without the bread, which cuts out a lot of carbs and calories.
  23. I had my first period the day after surgery, but it was super light. I just had another one, and it was SUPER heavy. I thought it would never stop. I have been on birth control to regulate my periods because I have PCOS. I haven't had a period this heavy since before I was on the pills. I sure hope that this isn't an all the time thing. During the first week post-op, I was going all the time like you are, but it was because I was on meds for H pylori. After I finished the meds, I was still having liquidy bowel movements, but my doctor said that was normal due to the liquid diet. Once I started eating more regular foods, I got constipated. Oh how I was wishing to go back to the diarrhea! LOL Luckily, I only was like that for one day. I am on a regular full diet now and am back to regular bowel movements.
  24. I suffer from migraines and Excederine is the only over the counter medicine that I have found that works well for me. I asked my doctor on my discharge day if it was okay to take. He said yes. I think you are fine taking it.
