Once upon a time there was a fair maiden who was put on a pre-op diet for 10 days before her VSG. There were only about 10 foods on her approved list of foods to consume. On of those items was pickles. The fair maiden was tickled to death that there was no limit on how many pickles she could eat in any given day.
So the diet progressed, and the fair maiden went to the store and purchased a large container of large whole dill pickles! Everyday mid-afternoon she would eat one of those dill pickles.
One day when the pre-op diet was working the fair maiden's last nerve, she ate two pickles. One in the afternoon, and one in the evening. After taking the last bite of the second pickle, the fair maiden started feeling an uneasiness in her stomach. Soon she was writhing in pain. After an hour of misery, the fair maiden hurled.
Yes, the fair maiden is me. I learned some very valuable lessons that day, like...there is such thing as too many pickles in a day! And dr's allow pickles as a free food on pre-op diet, because it would kill you to consume any more than a 100 calories from them. Finally, I learned that pickles are the devil.
